Commoner simply means she was not born into an aristocratic family and her parents don't have titles. Many "commoner" women are infinitely more talented than any born royal could have ever claimed to be.
Not really into the whole royalty thing or aristocracy but both Kate and William have my respect as seemingly decent people as did the late Queen Elizabeth the Second. I’m slowly warming to Charles too.

This is the modernity of the royal family. The future queen playing the piano in the background to compliment the real singer and the spotlight is on him, not her. This shows her talent yet her humility, it shows her honour yet her appreciation for the singer, it shows her solemness for the departted yet celebration of life.

Tom Walker later described all the time they spent jamming, rehearsing, and planning, and how they were both nervous the actual stage performance would go wrong somehow. I think he looks back and smiles at her to say, "We did it!" And she smiles back. All their hard work had paid off. It was very sweet.

I believe Catherine had the Queen in mind when this was selected. Her first Christmas without her beloved husband, partner and patriarch of the family. And it no doubt resonates deeply with so many others.
She wanted Tom for another tune initially…but when Tom suggested his new song and she heard it…I’m sure she was immediately moved by it…Tom was amazed when she requested to accompany him on it. What a feather in an artist’s cap.

As an American, I’ve been a fan of the Duchess for years. Going down the rabbit hole of videos after hearing of the Queen’s passing and I found this video. I’m in tears. I’m 22 years old and my healthy father passed away very unexpectedly 2 months ago. This is a beautiful tribute to those who won’t be with us this upcoming holiday season.

I'm a heavy metal drummer and I have to say it's so difficult to play live! One mistake and that's all it takes! Recording in a studio can be fixed but not live! You really gotta take extra effort to perform. Kate did well! Concentrating on the notes, staying in time. Grace under pressure! Take a bow!🤗

@@Allannah_Of_Rome I play bass and I wouldn't go that far. I called the drummer the heartbeat only cause if he messes up the song dies lol. But yeah leader is appropriate. Bass makes the sound " full" in my experience, when my band use to jam I would occasionally stop to see what it sounded like and it's kind of empty, at least in metal anyway. Guitar packs a lot less of a punch if the bass isn't giving it that foundation. That's just my opinion though, yours is good too.

I am in tears…well done to everyone involved in this beautiful song..my grandmother just passed away in October. 2 weeks before we had a video call where she promised I will see her next her when I hopefully, Covid-19 permitting visit her in Jamaica..but she had an heart attack and died..she was the last part of my great-grandmother who was, and will always be my hero. So this song just made me weep happy loving tears for them. Hoping they are dancing on heavens pearly floors right now. agreed. As beautiful as she is however, it seems as though her good looks is not her most positive attribute. Although I don't know her personally, she exudes a lovely and graceful down to Earth humility which I have come to admire and respect.. I am American and therefore not completely sold on the idea of a monarchy, but if I was I would be "over the moon" with the prospect of Catherine being the queen at some point.

That's all i could think of when i first heard it, and in choosing this song to do this, she's connected us all, from Tom to her majesty, we've all lose loved ones, we've all lost loved ones this last year going on two, to covid and other health problems, we may fit into different boxes of indentity, or whatever the heck all that nonsense is called/about, but deep down when you strip all of that away, including the money and nice houses, we're the same.

That piano part may not be on a Rachmaninoff level of difficulty but it’s harder than it sounds. Playing the same pattern over and over again while keeping perfect time and subtly adjusting one’s volume and phrasing to match the other musicians is a mark of real musicianship. She’s really listening, which is more than one can say of some professional virtuosos. Kudos to the Duchess for demonstrating what class, poise, taste and egoless service looks (and sounds) like.
As someone who achieved Rachmaninoff's Concerto in C Minor as the pinnacle of my piano career, and love playing Rhapsody on a Theme of Paganini I must respond! She played beautifully. I am an amateur pianist who achieved a minor degree (major studies in something more practical!) in music at university and studied seriously for 29 years. I always look at the wrists. No slouchy wrists! She has good technique. It's hard to pick it up again later, also, after children and jobs and obligations that keep you from the piano. She's lovely in many ways, and admire her for her effort here and for her poise and dignity representing Her Majesty on a regular basis. The nerves she must have had, the worst part. I play for myself, I hate performing.
The level of bull required to turn a very simple heavily edited piece into the greatest performance ever is what is more difficult than it sounds! If she did a handstand sycophants like you would be amazed and like baying seals you'd be clapping and saying she is an Olympic gymnast in the making.

Beautifully clipped, clean tempo; tasteful modulations and a complete absence of sappy sentimental overgesticulation; precious dignity, through and through, for a meaningful, elegiac tribute to those who are bereaved at Christmas -- and anytime. Lovely staging, as well, with all the candles -- perfect for Westminster Abbey, where so many figures of immense global import rest in peace. Thank you for this concept and for the brilliant willingness to step up and perform. Inspiring!

As a pianist, I can say I would LOVE to hear her play in her own relaxed setting. She has clearly had excellent training and learned very well, technically she has all the skills, control and understanding of how to listen to and play with other musicians. I’d love to hear a little more natural expression coming through, as I think she has the ability in spades. A wonderful achievement and beautiful, humble performance by all.

As a pianist I'm going to say that the hardest thing about this song must have been conquering the nerves. It was really a simple tune but to have the eyes of the world on you must feel insanely nerve racking for any amateur musician. She didn't have to do that performance so she certainly doesn't lack bravery.

I totally agree. I was classically trained by piano teachers. Later on, behind closed doors, I tought myself to play pieces like Moonlight Sonata. In Church, even though I can play the music perfectly well at home, my nerves leave me literally jumping from one bar to the next! It took the enjoyment out of it.

I have heard of three mothers who have passed within weeks of each other two with brain tumours and one through a heart attack between them nine grieving sons and daughters. No time of year is a time to lose someone you love but it’s harder at this poignant time. This song really was a lovely tribute to all those souls who’ve passed. Talk of them laugh about the things they said or did they will always be with you.

This song was such a gift to the Queen. Christmas must have been very hard for her majesty without Phillip. Catherine is a very loving person for the royal family. William is level headed and never feels threatened by his wife. Diana arranged to do a ballet dance for Prince Charles. He never accepted what Diana did as a sign of love for him. He is a very small minded man to have shown such hate towards Diana’s actions.
Diana raised William to love others before himself. He will make a great king.
She is a true role model for young women. I wish the media would focus on more women like her instead of "not mentioning names, too many" in the states who teach no moral character.

For those who don’t know The duchess of Cambridge hosted a ‘together at Christmas’ carol service at Westminster Abbey this Christmas Eve. The same place where her and Prince William tied the knot ten years ago. You can watch it online I’m sure. Just make an itv account. It was lovely. No fuss. No dramatic effects. Just kind and humbling.

And julie Jr, that is what made it so beautiful. Both Catherine and Tom made it about the song - the words - and not about themselves. The camera didn't even focus on Catherine to a great degree.
That is what Catherine excels at, sharing the spotlight rather than trying to fill it. She doesn't even realise why her star shines so brightly. Her humility, grace and kindness means that while others are polishing their own name plaques and pushing themselves forward for attention, her star shines naturally and continues to rise.
I hope she plays this for thanksgiving service to the Queen when it does happen again
I am speechless, not just for the breath of the moment, but also for the contrast between the brother’s wives. One is overflowing with anger and hate, the other with love and compassion. It is astounding for those that bother to look. That was a completely wonderful performance.
