Thank you for the info on the edge pass, people dont know enough about it and i think this is making people more knowledgeable so maybe vail will make stevens better! thanks for the great tips!
I've bought 6 day pass including holiday access and that worked out great. 6 days is plenty for me and did everything I wanted to do for about $80 per day. Can't beat it. Full pass only makes sense at 10 days or so. I couldn't afford that many hotel days, lol
I think people should keep In mind is overestimating your days is not a bad idea, at least for some of you. If you don’t buy enough days you’re going to get burned after a day or 2 extra. Just make sure if you’re cost with day passes is just $30 less then say an epic local, is having that extra flexibility worth $30? Also good vid.
More important, I think people need to keep in mind that pass cost is almost nothing compared to air fare and hotels if you are talking about traveling to destination resorts. This video talked about several pass purchasing method to save $50 which is 1/10 of what you can potential save on logging. This is why I spend days and nights on trip planning every time.
Last year I bought a Keystone Plus and then somehow got a free upgrade to Summit Value when we realized we'd only be going during holiday times. Definitely was worth it.
We’re going to hold off on an updated comparison for now-very few pricing and access changes occurred this season, so we still stand by the vast majority of recommendations in last year’s video. We’ve decided to spend our resources on videos like these instead!
I ended up getting a couple days worth of epic day passes this year. Was really considering a full epic or ikon pass because I’m 5-6 hours from vail, Jackson hole, big sky, park city, etc. just far enough to where I can definitely make a couple trips, but can’t really justify more trips than that. Gonna get a season pass to my local mountain and spend most of my time there
IMO doing this much planning and this far in advance is not worth it just to save possibly a few hundred dollars. I would rather buy a pass than buy day passes and end up needing more. The price of the day pass packages also significantly increase closer to the snow season. These price comparisons are only good if you know exactly what your plans are for next season RIGHT NOW.
are we talking just the catwalks or the entire mountain? 🤣 still gotta pickup that 200 midweek. couple that with a 450/550 sunrise. that's not a bad combo to spend the weekends and holidays at sunrise with lesser crowds.
@@Gary-np7hl It's just that section for a few seconds from 1:52 to 2:06 where ski lift is visible. Flagstaff ski lifts were alway very long waits on busy days. Sunrise is quite a hike (maybe 4.5 hours drive?) from Snowbowl if you do it in one weekend. They're both great places!
Are the passes transferrable? Do the resorts require ID to use an Epic pass to keep ski bums from pooling their money and passing the pass around whenever they have a day off to ski?
When you purchase a pass, you have to submit a picture. When the lift operators scan your pass, they can see a picture of the rider. Some even ask you to pull down your gator or goggles so they can see your face to be sure.
This kind of strategy works if you are going to ski a few days in holiday at destination resort ONLY. If I buy a 7 day tier-2 pass for $459 to ski 2 holidays, I'll need a $555 North East Value pass for my weekend day trip which accounts for 8-10 days every season. that will be stupid because it's more expensive than a full pass. I think everybody already knows how to use day passes.
In general Epic day pass is only for people who ski a few days. Combining Epic day passes with Indy pass can make sense if you like to always try different mountains, and if there are abundant choices in your region. I have used excel to do extensive analysis myself trying to ski more mountains and maintain same cost as Epic local. It's not easy as my target is 20+ day total in a season with half vacations half day trips. I'll have to use several mountains 2+ hr away for day trips to maintain that goal.
This comparison is stupid. Because Epic requires you to commit before the season starts, the majority of people don't know how many days they are going to ski. Plans fall apart or sometimes they decide they want to ski more than their pass allows. This happens all the time. I know people with full epic Pass but only skied 2 days. I know people who bought day lift tickets 10x because they didn't buy an Epic Pass early...
It's worth noting that if you find yourself spent more than 40 hours thinking which pass to buy. Just buy both IKON and EPIC. Time spent struggling is a hidden cost, and it could be expensive.
Already studied these passes but I appreciated all the nice skiing footage. Miss it already!
ski seasons not over yet

My head hurts after watching this. I can't imagine what yours feel like after researching this.

Travel costs are pretty obvious
Excellent analysis that is very useful. Thank you!

Are you planning on making a ikon vs epic video again this year?

Basically only worth doing if you're taking the whole family and it adds up
Where is that sand dunes run at?? 2:55
Heavenly
1:52 Reminds me of Snowbowl in Flagstaff

They are not.
@@PeakRankings not that I would try something like that considering how far away from an Epic resort I live.

Can you use epic day pass on a black out day????
depends if you can ski while blacked out
They also provide EDGE CARD to WA and Canadians

Pls review mont tremblant in Quebec pls❤ love ur vids and have a grest day
i bought an Epic Local Pass and i skied 35 times;) i would have skied more if it would have gotten below freezing for at least 4 hours overnight..
Easy answer buy an Australian epic pass. Get most of the benefits you need at a much cheaper price

Notice how an “adult” for the Epic Pass is “13”, where as the age for locals pass for adult is 19+ - thats really expensive for a “kid”!
As an Active Duty Veteran, I only play $139.00 for full access.
its not really a hack if it's just "do the math to find out if it's worth it."
Aftermraket passes sometimes exist on craigslist and facebook marketplace. How's that for a hak?
@cLAW you mean fake passes? Go for it.
@@snowphun No, or course not. I mean unused passes purchased by other people sold at a discount.
@@c-LAW Also illegal, Epic passes are non transferable.
@@snowphun What law?
You should at least mention the Military pass options -- THOSE are outstanding deals for Veterans and dependents.
Saved $400 on mine!

My dad and i got the Tahoe pass for next year.
The easiest way to do it is to buy the full pass and ski 30+ days at the best resorts 😄
Just join the army, then you can get the epic pass for $150
But then you have limited days skiing because you are in the army.
Omg math 🤮
I get the military dependent pass for 145 dollars, which gives me access to almost all the vail resorts.

Lol terrible advice. No one is spending $1000 worth of time considering this. And if their time is worth that much they probably already have both
@@ianrogers5963 Not everyone is well aware of the value of their time.🤪
What about the time spent watching forecasts and traffic to plan a spontaneous trip.. it all adds up
I'll quote Urban Caffeine on this: "They say time is money and while some of us do not have money we have the time"
