I always thought the front tuck looked douchey and more sloppy than untucked. I do tend to go fully tucked most of the time. It's frankly weird the attention to detail mentioned regarding hiding the laces (which I fully agree with) doesn't carry over to the whole tuck/front tuck/untuck thing. Front tuck = sloppy sloppy half assed way of doing things.

    • @OldNavyGuy
      @OldNavyGuy Рік тому +2

Exactly. The front tuck is a totally affected style choice that looks forced and unnatural. She’s wrong on this one.

I’ve got pink spotted socks on with camel chinos and a black turtle neck and whilst I was out I had black boots on and I noticed some ladies looking at me Which I liked but I dressed for me and not for them and usually I don’t get so many looks because I’m an average guy but I have been working out these last 3 weeks so I guess I’m holding myself better and walking with more confidence.

For some reason, when tucking shoelaces makes it looks like there is something missing. If you dont like laces dangling around why not get a shoe that dont have lace. Chelsea, monk straps, loafers are great alternatives.

Fashion is okay for guys under 30, but fashions tend to come and go. What is "in" today may look dorky tomorrow. Style, on the other hand, is very personal, indivdual and developed over time, and the look can change. Fashion is for beginners, style is for the seasoned and savvy men. Cheers.

Tucking in laces is the most overrated tip from Ashley. If you have the correct length laces, the small bow created from tying your shoes looks just fine. Just look at any James Bond suit outfit.

How many women tuck in their laces? When I see that, I might believe her. Hell, we know why she doesn't give women's fashion advice. They'd roast her.

This hurts me to say because I am a watch enthusiast. And, I definitely respect the general reliability of Ashley's advice. But I get way more interest, especially positive female attention, from a thoughtful choice in apple watch band than I do from my most carefully curated analog watch choices. I wish it wasn't true because these watches are something that I am passionate about.

Well articulated. Although this video seems to be for people who take themselves too seriously. If I end up look like a children entertainer in the street, it is certainly not the end of the world. And I don`t mind looking like a hypebeast, that is just a lot of fun. That tight suit look looks way too preppy, I would hate to walk around in a tight suit thinking I`m a big shot. She talks about maturity, but it seems that people who try hard to look responsible, often have something to hide. The judicial world for example includes a lot of people who dress well, but lack the very basic sense of responsibility and morality.

*A now for lessons on how to be a man as expressed in what you wear.*
    🗹 Dress for the occasion.
This rule is one you ought never to break and one that ought to dictate what you wear.
If you are attending a solemn occasion, black suit with black leather dress shoes, black belt, white button down dress shirt, crisply pressed.
Swimsuits at the beach in summer and the only time to wear sandals. Walking shorts, Cuban shirts while on holiday in summer, and the only time to wear white sneakers.
Business suits at work. Sport coats for happy hour. Jeans for labor work, and rarely for casual wear. Athletic clothes for the gym and pick up games. Rugby or polo shirts for casual gatherings.
Running shoes / cross trainers only for running or cross training. Court shoes only for court sports. Boat shoes for boating. River shoes for river adventures. Hiking shoes only for hiking. Work boots for work only.
Pullover hoodies only. Never zipper hoodies.
Dress shoes for office and formal occasions. Athletic shoes for athletics. Weather boots for weather. Work boots for labor work.
    🗹 Dress for the season.
If you live above the Tropic of Cancer or below thee Tropic of Capricorn, the colors of your clothes ought to reflect the season owing to changes in sky color and sun intensity. The goal is for you to pop as the foreground by being in contrast to the season-driven background.
Summer: Summer skies are deep blue. Contrast yourself to such skies with vibrant, rich and bold; yellows, reds, cream, white, peach.
Fall: Skies are mixed blue and grey. Sunlight grows weaker. Muted colors. Green, brown, orange.
Winter: Winter skies are light, grey. The earth is snow-covered. Contrast yourself with dark hues: black, blue, violet.
Spring: Skies are mixed blue and grey. Sunlight grows stronger. Contrast yourself with pale red, pale yellow, tan.
🗹 Layer only for functionality, never for looks.
One ought to layer only for extreme winter cold. Undershirt, dress shirt, suit coat, overcoat, scarf, for those in business attire living in big cities, taking public transit. Long-sleeve shirt, collar or not, under wool pullover sweater, parka (winter), jacket (fall).
    🗹 Dress in natural fabrics.
Wear cotton, wool, silk, leather. Never wear polyester. Exceptions exist for performance clothes related to activities, such as swimming (trunks), surfing (wetsuits), skiing (water-proof shells) and the like.
🗹 Dress in tailored looking, form-fitting clothing (Ashley is right here).
🗹 Dress in white only in summer.
White pants, white shirts, white shoes are fine for summer only. Never wear white any other time of the year.
🗹 Dress in black only in winter.
Exceptions include black suits for funerals, black tuxedos for tuxedo occasions.
🗹 Wear belts when pants have belt loops.
    This should be obvious.
    ☒ Never "French" tuck.
☒ Never tight tuck / nerd tuck your shirts.
☒ Never wear baseball caps unless you are playing baseball.
    ☒ Never wear concert t-shirts / message t-shirts.
    ☒ THE BIGGEST NEVER
Never look at men's fashions mags and try to dress like the male models in those mags. The males are metros and the males behind the clothing are metros. They have you dress to appeal sexually to other males rather than to appeal to non-feminist women.
Yet, you ought to dress for occasion, season and performance, i.e., functionality is the overarching rule.
