@@hazel2409 tbh sega was right about this game lasting a long time: even though sega couldnt support it,dedicated fans instantly made servers as soon as the official ones shut down, servers like sylverant with decent playerbases.
I remember watching this trailer dozens of times in a row when I was in middle school. It was practically romantic, haha. I still play PSO to this day, although thru Schthack.
This game was freakin amazing. Sega was so ahead of it's time. Everything about PSO was great. Though gameplay may have seemed a bit dull but still incredibly great for it's time and it being an online game, first online console game. What kept me hooked on this game was the amazing music and just the style and theme of it. The way people dressed and how this giant ship housed an entire civilization. This fantasy/futuristic world just seemed so intriguing. I 1st played it on GC & i was only 9 to
They need to do a promo like this for the next PSO game they come out with. I remember seeing this promo 8 years ago, and it made me want to play this game more than any other game at that time.
Yup, I did and it was an experience like no other. Everyone including gaming companies made the year 2000 seem like the most amazing thing ever and I was so pumped for that year to come haha. This trailer blew me away at the time, I racked up some horrendous phone bills playing this. One day my dad came back early from work and he saw the modem lead going down the stairs into the port of the phone. That month the phone bill came in and I owed him over 400 pounds for a couple of weeks gaming on the Dreamcast 🤣
Holy shit this is an intense trailer. If i would have seen this back in the day I would have been begging my mom and dad to get me a Dreamcast... and internet..
So you're from the future? The year 2000 is the future NOW!, but you are from 2018. STELLAR! You have crossed the door to the future... the door, TO FREEDOM.
i cannot tell you how many days i was late to work, and early to go home because of this game. so many memories...i used to be glued to the couch when i got this game...i think i got up to pee once.....
Oh man I had such high hopes for this game. For the first couple of months it did live up to them. I miss it so. :( Dreamcast was the best console I have ever owned.
i really do miss playing PSO as well. it was like nothing i had ever seen, a community of gamers. and yet its only recently the rest of the console world adopted integral online play. i remember running up a very large phone bill though, lol. i had that video on disc, free with dreamcast magazine :) i miss those times
I did not even saw this advert back then and I've been playing the PSO games since day one. My hype would have been even bigger with this advert haha now playing Phantasy Star Zero jeje the legacy of phantasy star games continues
when i first saw this trailer back in 2000 i cried. and just now i'm crying again. i want my DC back and my old PSO buddies T.T this game was way too awesome for this time, just like the whole DC and it's concept. today people laugh about PSO and DC, but why? online gaming with a CONSOLE. sure it's usual for today but in 2000 it was the freakin future. miss my DC :(
Hehe! I was the really one of the first Beta-testers on web with the French SEGA Team of PSO. I worked 6 hours a day with this game during 2 months to fix the bugs and paid for that!! We were only 15 world dudes on it in the beginning. Believe me it was a great time! I stopped at level 65 only and continued my job with QUAKE III.
Sonic Teams made a big deal about that back then. It was there custom-built Internet Time system they developed specially for PSO to get around time-zones. Basically SEGA's own "Stardate".
@@mlc4495 Almost. It was developed by the Swiss company Swatch in 1998. Sega just used it as a trendy internet time standard. If I had to guess, the reason it failed might have been the fact that it doesn't handle dates well. Like, it's 900 beats in New York and everywhere else in the world. But wait, what day is it right now in India? What does 900 beats MEAN there? Is it day or night? Are they on November 1st or still on October 31st? The beat system doesn't address the passage of days per region at all, so it still remains confusing as to, you know, when someone needs to go to bed or whatever. Anyway, that's my guess.
Oh man, that made me hard. I have much love for this game. It delivered on EVERYTHING it promised AND MORE. I still play this on my computer and it is a SEAMLESS experience. All the MMO players today that never played this game lost out big time. The sequel, Blue Burst, only improved on the original with four gorgeous new worlds. Its a shame you can only play this on private servers now. Its just as much fun today as it was the first day. No nostalgia needed.
yea, i agree, internet gaming didn't really kick off till just recently so i guess that makes sense, but i suppose thats where Phantasy Star Universe comes in.
I've played the dreamcast PSO's, gamecube PSO and blue burst, yet this trailer still entices me to play! haha SIDENOTE: I think that's the most enthusiastic narrator I've ever heard. "You can even build a common front with players on the other side of the earth 20 THOUSAND KILOMETERS AWAY!"
One thing this game had that most modern mmos STILL dont have (except FFXI) is the whole "language barriers broken down" part of this trailer. Most MMOS still dont have a translate thingy (or even let u play in the same servers) other than FFXI.
Man, back in those days, I wasn't entirely sure what the fuck it was; all I did know was that the TV and radio stations wouldn't shut up about it. I kinda miss those days....
If the original servers were still up for the Dreamcast I would still be playing it there but alas I am on schthack. It's hard to believe sometimes it has been 13 years...
PSO FOREVER! Most memorable game of all time, hands down, nothing can touch the story, the end, or the soundtrack, OR the ammount of items for its time, or the symbol chat or, or that it was on a console! Beat that@@!!!1
now u can, on the schtserv server. google the name, schtserv and u can check out on their site on how to play on the dreamcast, gamecube or the pc version
So true, still is in fact. Although I didn't know that Grass Assasion was meant to be in the FOREST AREA, thinking about it makes sense though. "GRASS" Assasion. Anywho it's cool to see new areas that weren't in the final releases, like that city the people were in around 1:34. Luckily if your like me, and have PSO PC you can log on to the private server schthack.
1. this is the funniest trailer of all time
and i adore it with all my heart
2. what i wouldn't do to get to see that original version of pioneer 2...
The best trailer to a game in my opinion. Back in the day this got me so pumped for a game like never before.
It was a much more optimistic time. Everything seemed possible. Quite the difference from now, eh?
It all ended when publishers knew they'll get more money selling skins
You don't even want to know what happened in 2020
The y2k era (which started in the late 90's) was marked with an optimism in the anticipation of the new Millennium.
RIP dreamcast.
You were the best.
Man I miss this game!!!
Sup

i still get emotional over this.
It's been more than 2 decades and this trailer still gets me hype! Whatever happened to Beats? 😅

Damn it, I missed the door to the future and freedom.
lol
You have to admit, it makes more sense than finding an enemy called a Grass Assassin in a lava-filled cave.
I wanna open the door to freedom :(

" The gaming revolution comes in the year 2000, the door to the future, the door to freedom. "
Imagine hearing that in 1999, holy shit.

Even after 2020 hearing "the year 2000" sounds futuristic.
You can find this trailer on UA-cam in better quality (actually in 480), search "Phantasy Star Online - DreamON Preview Trailer"
And here we are, 20 years later, PSO2 is live and kicking on Steam. Bitchin'.
This is the most dramatic trailer ever.
Today's the 20th anniversary of the game.
I need to play this build, just for curiosity
Shame that it's still not available publicly.
i LOVED this game - i sat home from work for days when this came out....this was the first online console game i ever played--all day everyday
Holy shit this is an intense trailer. If i would have seen this back in the day I would have been begging my mom and dad to get me a Dreamcast... and internet..
Loved this game back in the day, first online console game I ever experienced. Racked up some hefty phone bills playing it hehe.
this game virtually has no limit, no final mission, it took me years to level up and still in progress
Aw man the memories... such a great time in life
the world of phantasy star online lasts forever
This game was the bomb on the Dreamcast, used to play with all of my friends.
I come here often
Thanks for the like, Unseen64 4ever!
So you're from the future? The year 2000 is the future NOW!, but you are from 2018. STELLAR! You have crossed the door to the future... the door, TO FREEDOM.
This was before wi-fi. So nostalgic...
I've had this game for a while, and I have to admit, it's an amazing game, despite it being seriously outdated.
I always get one I lost my file....I wish I wouldn;t give to sacrifice one wish to pbring back PSO forever!
the music to this game was so great. I used to go to sleep with the game playing. very soothing.
i cannot tell you how many days i was late to work, and early to go home because of this game. so many memories...i used to be glued to the couch when i got this game...i think i got up to pee once.....
yup, on the schtserv server. u can google the main site on how to play online on the dreamcast, gamecube or for pc.
Kinda funny reading 6 billion, in 50 years Earth will easily reach the 10 billion mark.
On easter, valentines day, halloween and christmas he would be around the town and so would the other characters dressed up in fancy clothes
brings back good memories just watching this..i miss that game
u can still go online with it ... jus not the main server... there are plenty of private servers to connect to
I want to go back :(
>Grass assassins walking around in the Forest
>Hildebears in Forest 1
Things have changed... :>
this isnt unseen footage, it was released in the uk with a special edition of dreamcast magzine and was shown on a disc, i still have it now.
Dreamcast rocks!
@BigMurph106
what MMO was it, because as I recall, PSO was the very first ones to do this. This game set the stage for others.
Oh man I had such high hopes for this game. For the first couple of months it did live up to them. I miss it so. :( Dreamcast was the best console I have ever owned.
Man, they make this game sound so epic...
Yeah!
Me too!
Sooooooooooooooooo nostalgic!

I did not even saw this advert back then and I've been playing the PSO games since day one. My hype would have been even bigger with this advert haha now playing Phantasy Star Zero jeje the legacy of phantasy star games continues
Never forget phantasy star online. 10 year anniversary, and I still keep my original character

Watching this trailer in 2024 is fucking wild
One of the greatest games of all time!! It gets me amped for Phantasy star 0 coming out next week!
If only I had got this console while I had the chance.
These games look far better than my PS2 choices.
True, great times indeed, a lot of late nights I had with this game.
I never played this game untill it was released on gamecube... Im looking forward to the DS one coming out in November :3
Makes sense when you think about it. Why isn't something called a 'Grass Assassin' running around in dense foliage?
I miss the Dreamcast too and Phantasy Star Online.
Love this game. Wish I could find somebody online tho. :(
Holy shit when you stumble upon a comment you made over a decade ago
Started playing this once again with a friend of mine on the Schthack Server. Good times :)
I will miss that game, I never got to play it online.
go the the folder you have your game in. and instead of the psobb launcher click the icon that says online.

Definitely a trailer I wish I'd have seen...maybe then, I would've asked for this game for christmas in 2000.
Hehe, my bro and I did the same. We loved doing 4 player offline mode too. Even though it got wicked hard, it was fun tearing that stuff up.
this paved the way for all online games

yes it did, but official servers are closed since 2007. check google for private server.
@CLoneEd I remember when it came out 10 years ago. It was one of the best games to play ever.
This game is so under rated it's a fucking crime. Phantasy Star created the very foundations for MMORPG's and even to this day is still a solid game.
they should bring this one back on xbox live or something, that would be great! brings back hella memories, best game back in the days
i used to play this game all the time with my friends.
If you checked the box that the gamecube was packaeged they had plans for an adapter and plus Starfox adventures and such.

this was the best game ever. It was nothing like advertised, they make it sound so amazing.
yeah cuz their servers would be able to hold 6.000.000.000 ppl easily
Borel Carvalho funny how fast new servers are set up when gaming companies notice how popular their product is 😄

im always thinkin that. I'd just say with different styled lobbies, and with even more customization options.
Alright, who's cutting the onions?
man.. goose bumps when i watch that.
They made this sound like it was gonna be played by literally every person on the planet. Little did they know it would become niche outside of Japan
