Thanks Tim, glad this video was helpful. Find compositions can be difficult when the scene is cluttered. I try and find the interest (colour, texture, shape) and then try and separate that from the rest, the fog really helps in that respect.
Thanks Andrew, I really enjoyed your video. It's always a struggle to find interesting compositions for me, I think that you have shown that simple is the key when faced with a cluttered landscape.
Hello Andrew, I particularly liked that cropped pano shot in the forest of pines I could easily hang that on my wall. As a lover of solitary trees also I simply just loved that. Thank you for sharing. Fascinating to see images of another country...
I started out watching your seascape videos, but after seeing this one, I have to say you are damn good at trees and forests! In fact, the image at 6:20 is my favorite of your photos. The light, the fog and the texture of the center tree are just brilliant together.
Thanks very much Alan, composition is probably one of my favourite elements of landscape photography. It's something I continue to work at because I believe it can always be improved. Thanks for your support! :)
I live right near the lake Andrew, I do remember that morning, I rode my motorbike to work with a dark visor on at 6am. It was quite a scary ride to say the least. I also wondered how photographing/videoing the lake during fog would look. Thanks for making this video.
Yeah, the conditions were crazy, I think it was a combination and the fog and smoke from the burn offs up in the hills. I couldn't believe how long it hung round for. I didn't hear a motorbike, so I must have just missed you (I was out there around 6:30). Would have quite surreal, particularly with the dark tint, cheers!
I really enjoy your cinematic style of filming and editing!! It is awesome to watch. The sort of panoramic crop you did in editing gave the pictures an amazing wideness. 🤗
Thanks T.W. the video aspect is new to me but I'm enjoying the challenge along with the steep learning curve. I'm aiming at cinematic, so with more work I hopefully continue to improve. Thanks so much for leaving your feedback, it's helpful to know what you enjoyed!
Hi Andrew, I'm glad that you made the best of the fog last week. Some great images and drone shots. As always thanks for sharing Ps I have to say some of the best informative photography videos on youtube so your hard work and efforts are very much appreciated
Thanks David, it was pure luck I had the day off. As you know, fog doesn't come round often. Thanks very much for the feedback, it's always nice to hear that I'm on the right track. There are plenty of people doing these types of videos now...so I'm having to up my game ;-)
Great video, Andrew! Thanks for sharing. Nice work making the most of unexpected and unfamiliar conditions. I lived in San Francisco for years where the fog was a quintessential part of the Bay Area landscape. Now that I'm living near New York, fog seems to be a lot rarer, and I find myself missing it, especially now that I'm getting more into photography.
Thanks Jon, glad you enjoyed this one! If you're from San Francisco, I'm dealing with an expert in fog. They get some amazing fog conditions...always breathtaking. I'd love to visit there one day for a shoot. Do you get many opportunities to get out and shoot around New York?
Like the way you shoot the forest. I live in a very thick forest and find it very hard to get any kind of panoramic landscape shot. There always seems to be too much chaos; but you have been able to shoot through and around it. Good job.
Thanks very much for your feedback. Forest area are probably one of my favourite landscape subjects however I still find it challenging to find the right composition for similar reasons to the ones you point out. Its something I'll continue to work on!
Thanks so much David, I appreciate you saying that. I'm always experimenting with compositions and enjoy looking at how different approaches can give a completely different feel to an image. Love the fact you find the videos inspirational, it's so motivating to me to hear that...thank you! :)
Great video Andrew, it's a joy to see how you photograph your scenes and walk us through your ideas on composition. I was thinking along as you did the first shot and thought exactly the same - you then did what I thought. I'm glad, at I know I'm on the right track as a beginner. Thanks pal, I like the way you did your video, nice and simple without the frills - is on point.
Thanks Gavin, it just requires a little practice. Good news is, the practice is a lot of fun! I'm heading over the the UK soon to try out some landscape photography over there, hopefully the weather in kind! :)
Cheers mate, one thing Perth does is makes you work hard for your landscape images. There are plenty of days I have when I can't find anything to shoot. Thanks for your comment! :)
Fantastic walk around Joondalup! As an amateur photographer here in Perth, I'm going to draw some inspiration from you, and go wandering around with my camera in your footsteps, to better myself from your experience. Keep up the fantastic work. :)
Thanks Philip, I wish I had that soft diffused light more to play around with. The lone tree as my favourite as well...I'm a sucker for solo trees, cheers! :)
Thanks Robert, I wish we had more fog over here on the west coast. They get more south of us, but it's pretty dry so fog is rare, so I take my opportunities when I can. Great to hear the video was help, best of luck! :)
Breathtaking, Andrew. I've been following your videos ever since you started on youtube and you continue to improve and up the game. Great work on this video and great choice of music. Keep on doing what you're doing. You're a real inspiration to amateur photographers like me. Greetings all the way from Belgium. :-)
brill video Andrew , all fantastic compositions which i probably wouldnt have looked at but im still a newbie!!!! need to go out in fog we get plenty of that in Wales. Keep up the good work mate. really enjoying your videos!!!!!! da iawn(well done)
Hey thanks Chris, glad you enjoy this mate. Compositions are one of those things that one photographer can see and the other photographer walks straight past. One of the things I enjoy when shooting with other is how they see the landscape and what compositions they undercover. I hope that's one of the benefits of my videos, thanks for the feedback!
Thanks BigOz, while I was't used to the conditions, I was familiar with the area. However, I did have to try a few spots before I ended up with the right composition, thanks again!
Hey thanks Mark, I imagine fog is a fair bit more common in Perth Scotland then here. Interesting though that is gives a similar feel. Thanks for leaving a comment!
Thanks Steve, given there aren't too many place around Perth, I think it's a favourite amongst photographers. I was surprised there weren't more people down there in this particular day, cheers! :)
I really liked this video Andrew, especially the first image-love the colours in it! Really all of the images in the video!! Looking forward to seeing more! Good day from NC, USA!
Thanks very much Leanne. The drone is a relatively new addition to my gear. It's lots of fun to fly and had added a new perspective to the videos. Thanks you for your comment! :)
Thanks Paul, appreciate your feedback mate. It was one of those days when the light was right and it hung around for a while allowing me to work out what to capture! :)
Excellent photography "vlog"! And some of those pictures looked amazing, well done man! I've never tried taking pictures in fog or mist, but after this I'm thinking I should! Greetings from Sweden!
Thanks very much Paul, glad you hear you enjoyed it mate. I think fog provides some of the best light, so give it a go next time you have a chance. You'd get a fair bit of fog in Sweden wouldn't you?
Thank you, yeah it's a popular location. I often got there and I'm not the only photography. The pines provide a great setting for a range of different photography genres.
Great video. It seems to be coming more naturally to you now. I've been vlogging my weekend in the Blue Mountains, my first time trying. Don't think it'll be entertaining to watch and it isn't easy if you are an introvert, but I do find it enjoyable trying. Keep up the good work, I enjoy your videos.
Thanks Stephen, i've slowly become more comfortable. I still find it a little natural talking into a camera in the middle of nowhere :) I'm not one that likes the lime light. I encourage you keep going and when the time is right chuck one up on YT and see how it goes!
Haha, wow that's a lot of me all at once. You're going to need a break from that. Hopefully I've improved since my first video...by kind ;-) Thanks for your comment!
Great stuff as usual Andrew! I was out this morning myself hoping for some fog (none) and/or a sunrise (minimal) but managed to get a lone tree of my own. Not quite up to your standard though ;-) Cheers, Ian
Thanks Ian, always appreciate your feedback mate. I've had an incredibly busy weekend being Easter, but I hope to catch up on some UA-cam watching and your latest video is on the list!
Cheers Ben, there may have been a little bit of panic at the start when I didn't know where to look first, but things settled down when I worked out where to find the compositions. :)
Great shots. Really enjoyed this. The shots look really natural but was wondering if you did some slight adjustments in post production. Keep up the excellent work.
Thank you, glad you enjoyed it. I try and do what I can in camera, but I definitely finish each shot off with a little post-processing! Thanks for your question.
That's right. Get it right in camera and just add a sprinkling of post processing. Would be great to see your post processing workflow. All the best, Manzur
I also really enjoyed this video, and music. That lone tree in the field is my favorite. I thought you might make an image of the trail/road in the forest as a leading line but maybe that was too obvious?
Thanks Mark, really appreciate getting your feedback mate. I'm a sucker for solo tree :) I think your right there was probably an image there with the trail, but I was afraid that the fog was going to lift and I knew I wanted to get a shot of the lone pine. So instead I grabbed some footage to include in the video. Perhaps next time!
Thank you very much! I tend to crop most panos at 3x1 depending on the composition. I sometimes use 2x1 but that's very similar the ratio of video, 16x9! Yes, all processed in Lightroom!
Hey Andrew, on the last shot at 10:10, did you shoot it as a Panorama or is that just cropped from a single image? Do you by chance recall the crop used? I like that one a lot.
Thanks James, I'm now getting my music through a copyright subscription service called EpidemicSounds, the song is called "The Elders 2" by an artist called August Wilhelmsson. He does appear to have sold some of his other music commercially through Spotify, so it might be worth looking him up. I love his music as well, hope that helps! :)
Absolutely stunning and inspiring images ! A qstn though! Why you prefer SPOT METERING rather than Center or 3D or whatsoever? Thanks in advance! Cheers
Thanks very much, I actual just use the history that ignores the spot metering the takes into account the entire scene, this way I can see if I'm clipping blacks or highlights!
HI Andrew, I would like to be there, at this location...its beautifull, like yours photos my friend! Excuse my English, I live in Canada i`m french Canadian.
Hello Andrew, I am new to your channel and I find it very enjoyable. I guess the still photos you show in the videos have had some post production done on them. If so, I was wondering if you ever show the original photo next to the posted one and do you have any tips on about post production of landscape photos? Thank you.
First welcome to the channel Steven and thanks for subscribing mate! Yes, I shoot everything in RAW and post-process all images. Any photographer that telling you otherwise is lying. It's a good suggestion, I might include that in a few edit videos I have planned later, thanks! :)
Hi Andrew. Love your work and style. Just wondered why you use ISO 100 when you could use "native" ISO 64 on you D810? I've just bought a D810 & love the fact that I can use ISO 64. Any thoughts on this??
Thanks Robert, appreciate that! I use the D800 which has a native base of ISO100, so I use that. I didn't upgrade to the D810, lovely camera though! If I had the D810, I'd be using ISO64 instead!
Are you sure you haven't relocated to the UK - you get worse weather than us! :) Enjoyed the trip into the forest Andrew - always good to make the most of the conditions at hand. Do you ever photograph the wildlife in Aus?
Thanks Damian, I realise I do vlogs when the weather is bad, but I personally love going out in that weather and it's the best for the style of images I capture. I should show more of the better weather though in the videos. Perhaps I'm preparing for for the UK weather! I have captured some wildlife shots, although I haven't done any blogs about that, I predominantly do landscape, perhaps a good idea for a future video, thanks!
The "mood" and quality of these images is amazing. Thanks for sharing. These kind of videos do really inspire me.
Thanks Joao, the light was perfect for these moody types of shots...very atmospheric! :)
Thanks for going over your selection of composition and your thought process. Your slow and methodical approach really helps your viewers learn.
Some great images again. Love the drone shots for the last image! Yes, there are many paintings waiting to be put to canvas in this one!
Cheers David, the drone footage is adding a nice bit of drama to the video. I can see an exhibition coming together ;-)
Excellent compositions!!! Agree, the cropping is great
Thanks so much Nikolas, appreciate you leaving your feedback. I do enjoy a wide crop when it suits the image! :)
Soothing music, great images and a fantastic video
Thanks so much Praveen, appreciate your feedback mate! :)
This video will really help me to see the composition in such clutter. I really enjoyed this one!!
Cheers Drew, thanks for the feedback mate. Simple is a great way of going...the fog always helps with that :-)
Thanks for another inspiring video. I admire the way you manage to capture the atmosphere of the surrounding in your images.
Thanks you Hans, there was lots of atmosphere to capture this day, lots of mood! :)
Wonderful to see something from my old haunt! You photograph it so well. Thank you.
Hello Andrew, I particularly liked that cropped pano shot in the forest of pines I could easily hang that on my wall. As a lover of solitary trees also I simply just loved that. Thank you for sharing. Fascinating to see images of another country...

Hi Kim, glad you enjoyed this one. I love fog as well, I just wish we had more of it here. Thank you very much for your kind feedback! :)
Very ell-done - love your approach on composition in particular, you really nailed your subject matter. Thanks for sharing our art!
Well-done. ;-)
Thanks very much Alan, composition is probably one of my favourite elements of landscape photography. It's something I continue to work at because I believe it can always be improved. Thanks for your support! :)
You got a really nice collection of shots from this outing! I really dig your editing on these, as well as the choice of the crops.
Thanks mate, it was one of those opportunistic trips, not to far away from where I live. Thanks also for the feedback on the images.
Love the drama your photos create, great job.
Thanks very much Aaron, I appreciate you sharing your feedback. I love do like a little mood and drama in my images, glad you like them! :)

I really enjoyed watching your approach to the landscape and conditions, I'm looking forward to checking out some of your other videos. 👍
I could be photographing right beside you but my images wouldn't be even close to as good and intriguing as yours! Well done! Greetings from the UK!
Thanks Gavin, it just requires a little practice. Good news is, the practice is a lot of fun! I'm heading over the the UK soon to try out some landscape photography over there, hopefully the weather in kind! :)
You have some superb captures... great video also. Thanks
Thank you Denis for your comment and kind feedback!
Great vlog as always Andrew. Awesome shots, I really like the square composition image. 🤗🤗🤗
Thank very much Tim, I think that's one of my favourites as well!
The last picture with the lone green tree and a lot of negative space is stunning. I really want a print of it.
Thanks Mattias, it's one of my favourite images from this year.
You live in an amazing place; Coastlines to Pine Forests. Thanks for sharing a great on location vlog.
Cheers mate, one thing Perth does is makes you work hard for your landscape images. There are plenty of days I have when I can't find anything to shoot. Thanks for your comment! :)
Great production. Really nicely done Andrew.
Thanks for the feedback, glad you enjoyed it! :)
Great pics Andrew and some useful tips. We have plenty of fog here in South East England to practice with :-)
Thanks Antang, glad you enjoyed this. Do you get fog all year round there? What locations would you recommend for the South East?
Great video and images. Fog is magic.
Thanks James, I completely agree...Fog is magic!
Beautiful.. very scenic and professionally presented.. subscribed..

Fantastic walk around Joondalup! As an amateur photographer here in Perth, I'm going to draw some inspiration from you, and go wandering around with my camera in your footsteps, to better myself from your experience. Keep up the fantastic work. :)
Thanks Robert for your lovely comments mate. Getting feedback like this help motivate me to create more videos, thanks again! :)
This was awesome..I’d enjoy a video on how you process “fog”...thanks for sharing
It's a pleasure to see your video and the resulting stunning photos 👍
Love the lone tree shot Andrew. Very classy use of the diffused light 👍😊
Thanks Philip, I wish I had that soft diffused light more to play around with. The lone tree as my favourite as well...I'm a sucker for solo trees, cheers! :)
Very easy to watch, really nice pictures. Great to see it being done in such a different environment. Iceland was great as well. Good effort! 😁
Great video. loved the images, I think the crop made them even more interesring.
Thanks Mark, I think you've hit the nail on the head, the crop ratio exaggerated the isolation of the tree!
this is one of the best landscape video i have sen , amazing image
Andrew, I look forward to walking through east coast fog with my D750, which I haven’t as yet mastered. Thanks for the ideas you are giving me.
Thanks Robert, I wish we had more fog over here on the west coast. They get more south of us, but it's pretty dry so fog is rare, so I take my opportunities when I can. Great to hear the video was help, best of luck! :)
As you speak and speak the fog lifts and it feels that you're missing the shot. That said, I enjoyed your insight. Thanks for the tour Andrew.
Haha thanks John, I thought it was lifting as well, however it seemed to be moving in and out and ended up handing around for hours! :)
Excellent work and videos Andrew.
Thanks Jay, appreciate you leaving a comment, glad you enjoyed this one! :)
Great video. The panorama cropping works well.
Thank you Thor, it's great getting your feedback!

Great images and video Andrew, unfortunately i had to work that morning. Oh well always next year!!
Thanks Andrew, I had luckily planned to have the day off. When do you tend to shoot when it foggy?
Breathtaking, Andrew. I've been following your videos ever since you started on youtube and you continue to improve and up the game. Great work on this video and great choice of music. Keep on doing what you're doing. You're a real inspiration to amateur photographers like me. Greetings all the way from Belgium. :-)
Wonderful images at the end of your vid. They work so well square and have loads of mood :)
Thank you Val, I do like a square crop, and the moodier the better! :)
G'daye Andrew. First time I've come across your work. I've only just discovered shooting in mist / fog and love it ! Thanks for your video.
brill video Andrew , all fantastic compositions which i probably wouldnt have looked at but im still a newbie!!!! need to go out in fog we get plenty of that in Wales. Keep up the good work mate. really enjoying your videos!!!!!! da iawn(well done)

Wow! Considering you said you dont shoot in fog very much, they were some cracking shots mate :) very nice indeed.
Thanks BigOz, while I was't used to the conditions, I was familiar with the area. However, I did have to try a few spots before I ended up with the right composition, thanks again!
beautiful pictures Andrew
Thanks so much Peter! :)
Great work, Andrew. Beautiful images and composition! A greetings from Spain!
Thanks Rafa for those kind words, glad you enjoyed the video!
Brilliant video, the way the shots were taken you could quite easily be from the Perth in Scotland as they get plenty of fog there.
Hey thanks Mark, I imagine fog is a fair bit more common in Perth Scotland then here. Interesting though that is gives a similar feel. Thanks for leaving a comment!
Thats a great spot Andrew, i've done a few shots there with my daughter. Nice work.
So pleased you like this one. It was one of those unplanned days, and one you can't help but enjoy, cheers!
Great video Andrew. Loved the drone footage as well 😉
Thanks very much Leanne. The drone is a relatively new addition to my gear. It's lots of fun to fly and had added a new perspective to the videos. Thanks you for your comment! :)

Gratz on being featured on fstoppers!! 📺
Thanks Natasha, stoked the video was featured, love what F-stoppers do!
Saw the fog out my window in Sorrento stayed in bed. Nice shots mate
Not a bad place the stay, I just know there aren't too many opportunities to capture the fog, that motivated me to get out there!
Yeah we do, especially now when spring comes around. I'll make a vid about it and see how it turns out :)
Awesome job, well done, cheers.
love it, you do spectacular work!
You're very kind Emma, thank you for your comment! :)
Cool video! I did a photo shoot in those pines a few months back
Thank you, yeah it's a popular location. I often got there and I'm not the only photography. The pines provide a great setting for a range of different photography genres.
Great video. It seems to be coming more naturally to you now. I've been vlogging my weekend in the Blue Mountains, my first time trying. Enjoyed the video. Keep up the good work.
Thanks so much Pauline, I appreciate you leaving a comment! :)

I really like the wide crops. Can you explain briefly the aspect ratio you used for the crop? I assume you processed them in Lightroom.
Thank you very much! I tend to crop most panos at 3x1 depending on the composition. I sometimes use 2x1 but that's very similar the ratio of video, 16x9! Yes, all processed in Lightroom!
Thanks for your vidoe. Its a great help.
My pleaser John, glad you enjoyed this one mate! 👍
Great vid Andrew! Especially like that first image - a little bit of a Blair Witch vibe going on in that forest :)
Thank you Richard, Haha I was thinking a similar thing when I saw the video footage back...it got a little spooky there! :)
Nice video. I really enjoyed the format. +1 subscriber.
Thanks Collin, really appreciate you subscribing mate, welcome to my channel!

BigFoot spotting at 7:00
Haha, yeah saw that! There's no way I could convince you that I was in the middle of no where...a very popular exercise area.
I loved it
HI Andrew, I would like to be there, at this location...its beautifull, like yours photos my friend! Excuse my English, I live in Canada i`m french Canadian.
Thanks for that Andrew. Subbed.
Thanks Andrew, I look forward to seeing them. Cheers.
You did well Andrew! My favourite photo is the one with shelter! Second best lonely pine tree. I'm longing for photos on Instagram! C u there!
Hey thanks Booster, when viewed through the camera I thought I might have been missing some detail, but it came up nicely when in post-processing!
Andrew Marr what focal length did You use in this first picture?
I've started to included the focal length of each of the images during the reveal. The 'Shelter' was taken at 29mm and the 'Lone Pine' was at 70mm.
Cheers mate, you too! :)
Andrew Marr Thank You! Looking forward for new video. Have a happy Easter! C U! ;)
Are you sure you haven't relocated to the UK - you get worse weather than us! :)
Enjoyed the trip into the forest Andrew - always good to make the most of the conditions at hand.
