    Small caps are better represented by “S&P 600” than the Russell 2000. The 600 index filters out the weak players. I agree with the assertion that since small caps are more sensitive to rates, they won’t come alive until rate cuts are imminent. At that point, just step out of the way…

    • @leonheart4178
      @leonheart4178 6 місяців тому +1

      I agree with Josh as well-for right now small caps seem stagnant, but some of those companies will grow into mid and large caps someday and are trading at a discount. So are you implying to "step out of the way" and not buy them? Because if so you'll get burned when they do rally...just like they were saying about NVDA, META, AMZN back in 2021 and to "stay out of the way" for the recession that so far has never happened.

    • @Judge247
      @Judge247 6 місяців тому +4

      @@leonheart4178 Sorry, by “step out of the way” I meant to avoid getting run over by small caps when Fed starts cutting rates, like a stampede. They should do well.

    • @gmoney546
      @gmoney546 6 місяців тому

      Do you know what the weak players consist? Wouldn't you want to be in some of the weak players that are cyclical lows where the E (earnings) has already been hit? Rate cuts would juice their return more-so. As the saying goes ... "Buying a cyclical after several years of record earnings and when the P/E ratio has hit a low point is a proven method for losing half your money in a short period of time."
      I guess it would be better to vet the weak players to determine why they are losing money.

    • @Judge247
      @Judge247 6 місяців тому

      @@gmoney546I agree with you, that if you’re planning to invest in individual companies it makes perfect sense to individually screen for unfairly devalued companies. But since folks who do index investing (SPY, QQQ, VTI, etc) only want the best value in the aggregate, it’s useful to know that while Russell 2000 catches that many small/mid companies rather indiscriminately, the S&P 600 index (SLYG, etc) filters for the BEST 600 companies based upon performance and earnings thresholds. But yes, if you have the time, talent, and inclination to sift through “weak players” to individually discover which ones actually constitute a bargain, then best of luck to you!

      The idea that the not-good small caps are the most likely companies to go under isn’t wrong. I think some people only consider russel2000 or no small caps as the options, so they throw out some babies with the bath water. Picking out the good ones isn’t something that they care to, especially the large majority who know that their picks have a history of not beating indices, and especially those with no system to automate the downselecting of 2000 companies into a few dozen to examine more closely

    One of the reasons I don’t listen to analysts or advisors on stocks or etp. Most of information is data driven and most people are not able to buy every stock or etp they talk about. Most cannot trade anytime the trade goes south. I take the information presented and look how the company has been not what it’s going to be like in the future. Anyone remember Covid? Who could have seen an economic shutdown? Most say don’t look to history, but state 52wk highs or lows. Totally contradicting what they say. I bought FDX when it dropped ($148.00) and they laughed about it that day. Now it’s $245.00. Nobody can predict the future and if you do you are then called an inside trader. lol. It’s your money. Do a basic research on what you want to invest in. Risks, fees, taxes, speculative are some things you should research. Are you buying when it’s going up or down? Is it at peak or bottom? Knowledge is power. Have a nice day.
