You speak the absolute truth about the overcomplexity of these power trains with almost zero upside. Have owned two T6 S90s, I love everything about the cars EXCEPT what propels it. It’s a superior product that’s missing a real engine that would deliver more power in a smoother delivery.
I agree with the physical buttons problem in volvos and many of these new vehicles. I don't however think that they should ge all ev yet. I love having a hybrid just for being able to fuel up anywhere in les than 5 minutes and get on my way with full range.
I own a 05 XC70 with a 2in lift kit, sitting on Toyo 2157016 A/T III tires. Car has 236k miles and runs super freaking mint. Down here in Lancaster PA and for a car that's almost two decades old, my Volvo still gets a whole lot of compliments and how good she looks. Will upgrade to the V90 only when my baby stops running, when she hits 300k.
Thanks for making a video on this car! I think it's pretty underrated since people either opt for the S60 or SUV models, but I am really enjoying my 2018 S90. I've put 30k miles on it and it's still running like new. Passengers ride like kings with the massive amount of legroom and the drive quality is great even after years of potholes. Even though it's made in China, it's held up pretty well on daily drives. Great vid!
@@ghereqi I use it as a personal vehicle, although I drive my friends around often. It would be a great uber if that's what you're thinking. In my years of owning it, I've only had issues with the electronics. I live in an area with bad winters, so the sensors seem to glitch out at low temperatures. Otherwise, the car has been like a dream. The important parts have held up remarkably well.

Luckily I managed to get a warranty on all replaceable parts like rims, hoses, glass, etc, but you're definitely going to want that engine coverage as you never know what might happen or what condition the previous owner kept it in. I really like the drive, ride and the Swedish flair and design this car offers, but I just can't get myself to buy a Volvo that's made outside of Sweden, just doesn't feel right like giving a middle finger to its heritage, perhaps just get an early S90 when they were still made in Torslanda.
Any car company that goes full EV will lose a large segment of the market. They simply are not that convenient. You cannot travel a great distance as we are used to. A large segment of the population lives in apartments and condos. The more weight the less range.
I agree ford is going to go bankrupt going full electric. They simply are not that convenient. You cannot really travel more than 300 miles and then wait hours to recharge,not practical. Even going full SUV is not good. I still like my sedans. SUV is nothing more than a new version of station wagon. EV is ok for around town if you have a good solar charging system.

Bro I owned Volvo s90 and I did test drive with Lexus. Only pro Lexus has is more comfortable but beside that Lexus can not compete with Volvo quality: materials, interior pieces are well made and rock feeling etc etc. when I get in Lexus it doesn’t have the same feeling tho. If feels much much cheaper than Volvo.

People who think it’s engine is a con have never actually driven it, i dont understand how the reviewer got those numbers, the consumption is indeed life changing (especially nowadays), people online and also myself are getting 48 mpg and this car is probably the fastest in it’s class too, a friend of mine who has a T8 XC60 only goes to the gas station once a month, indeed volvo would benefit more from being only eletric but the engine is not overly complicated as well since these kind of motors have been around for quite some time, and a N/A V6? I’m not a car reviewer but I never actually seen a decent N/A V6 apart from say a 370Z engine, which has it’s undecent unrealibilities on it’s own, drove a Dodge Journey and the consumption/engine was really bad, cars like the Hyundai Santa Fe and most of that niche look the same, maybe the honda pilot is the only one who actually looks cool with that engine.
I’m sorry but 48 mpg you must be pushing this by hand and getting in everyone’s way. Compact cars don’t even get that, real hybrids sometimes can’t even pull off 48 mpg

As a long time Volvo owner, this 4 cylinder is what keeps me from buying one. Just make it a plug in hybrid like Toyota does and it might better than this craziness.
So they have a range of plug in hybrids call the recharge and they will even do 38 miles of pure EV driving but the problem is they use the old styled engine with the belt driven supercharger which is kinda prone to failing. I prefer the electric supercharger this regular S90 has. But this is why I would rather go full EV with a Volvo otherwise I really like it
Thanks for reviewing this car that should sell better. Volvo is going full-EV. Every new car introduced form the c40 on will be full-EV. And the c40 is the last of the current generation. The next gen will have a different look to the interior. I hope they knock it out the park like they did with this one. Expectations are high since they did such a fine job with this generation. But, yes, all new Volvos will be EVs. They'll keep updating these current hybrids but they won't make a new-gen ICE or ICE-hybrid Volvo.

I prefer naturally aspirated V6 but they can add Optional Twin turbo as well .. the only one thing I wish Toyota and Lexus do !! is their Tires spec no matter how big the wheels the width of their tires always look skinny .. its not big deal to a lot of people but to my eye wide tires more important than large wheels . wide tires gives overall solid built look to it
I haven’t tried it personally but yes I’m sure it will def be stiffer than this S90, the S90 rides really well. With the Polestar I do know for a fact you should avoid the performance model with the Ohlins dampers. The performance suspension is def stiff
Great video and car and love the recharge model. I still prefer the 21 RLX Sport Hybrid over the ES 300h. You lose 10 mpg but gain SH-AWD and 172 hp, which is almost the hp the ES has in the first place.
They both ride amazing which isn’t hard to do just so you know, sacrifice handling and that’s it. What’s amazing about the ES is how quiet it is far less wind noise than the Volvo. But the Volvo doesn’t completely sacrifice handling to ride good so just gotta pick what you value more, I would still go ES

The glove compartment falling was a problem. And would be a con. Other than that I like it way more than he is describing. The polestar is strange looking. My brother who doesn't like electric has a Toyota four cylinder Camry and we love the power. The gear shift which he doesn't like is cool looking and rare. Didn't even describe it had heated and cooled rear seats. On the infotainment what kinda buttons he would put at the bottom. I guess one is navigation. The price for me is the deal breaker. If I remember right the back seats come down easy. So if you like SUVs you might like this. On china assembling it that was news to me.

“Just use the voice commands” is one of my biggest pet peeves. Even if voice commands works perfectly it’s still way more time consuming and annoying than pressing a button. I almost lost my shit on a Tesla salesperson who said that to me a few months ago.
Very handsome no doubt about it, but for me I'd drive over to the MBZ dealership & take a good look at the E450 (baby S class), although the MBZ will set cost you an extra $7K. But for the extra cash you do get air suspension & a V6 Turbo. One thing that the Volvo had over the Benz was the beautiful rear digital climate control & butt warmer which the Benz was lacking...Another good review Kevin, now get your buns over to Mercedes real soon, I can't wait for your review!...CHEERS!
Made in China definitely a major deterrent. I noticed no lighted interior DOOR markers, even non-illuminating cost saving reflectors omitted. This is quite frankly unacceptable for a vehicle in this price category. In addition, the tail light configuration while distinctive is rather unappealing. And what do you base "more Volvos are gonna be produced in China" on? Volvo has just spent a ton of money to expand its factory in Torslanda, Sweden to do megacastings on a 2025 EV model. The next gen Volvo due out end of this year will be made in the USA for the North American market. Volvos factories are in Sweden, Belgium, China and the USA and some other countries. But the design and engineering are done in Sweden for all of their cars regardless of what factory assembles them. As for the car being made in China, it is what it is. The quality of Chinese-made Volvos is tops. It's the USA made ones that have had some issues but the USA factory is fairly new. They have to sort these out for the upcoming Volvos and Polestars to be built in their USA factory.

You comparing it to a Lexus but the Lexus can't put the power down nor the speakers aren't the same or that Digital screen and touch screen aren't at the same quality nor the ride quality. Evening the safety value is better because Volvo holds its value in safety very well. Lexus it's a overpriced Toyota under the hold and I be damned if I paid for a Lexus at that price point just for the value to drop 30%after two of driving off the dealership lot.
I like this car, and I'm the curmudgeon that rarely likes anything that Kevin reviews. I'd get this over the other European contenders, but it'd be a tough call between this and the Lexus equivalent. Oddly enough, at the moment I'm looking for an old Volvo 240 wagon. I'd rather have one of those old bricks than this brand new sedan, as pretty as it is. More evidence of my self-proclaimed curmudgeon status, I suppose. Speaking of that, get ahold of some classic cars if you can, or if you run out of the supply of new stuff. They had a great inline 6. They chose to end all 5 and 6 cylinder cars years ago. They even had a Yamaha 8 cylinder in their s80s for a few years.
Just less than at cockpits interior..if put more buttons function control and colour it must better..just it..overall good

You comparing it to a Lexus but the Lexus can't put the power down nor the speakers aren't the same or that Digital screen and touch screen aren't at the same quality nor the ride quality. Evening the safety value is better because Volvo holds its value in safety very well. Audi and bwm does the same overpriced they vehicles and we know they both will have an oil leak in the next two days 👀,but yet we still buy those company . Lexus it's a overpriced Toyota under the hold and I be damned if I paid for a Lexus at that price point just for the value to drop 30%after two of driving off the dealership lot.

I like this car, and I'm the curmudgeon that rarely likes anything that Kevin reviews. I'd get this over the other European contenders, but it'd be a tough call between this and the Lexus equivalent.
Oddly enough, at the moment I'm looking for an old Volvo 240 wagon. I'd rather have one of those old bricks than this brand new sedan, as pretty as it is. More evidence of my self-proclaimed curmudgeon status, I suppose.
