    Greeting's from Ireland, I live in rural Ireland and I have a small front garden with over fifty pots of perennial's and three flower beds. I used to plant annuals in pots but with the rain we get here they would turn to mush. There is noting more exciting than when a plant starts to flower.

    Are you affiliated with home Depot? I live in Northeast PA and at my home Depot they are just letting hundreds if not thousands of plants dry out and die. They're putting ferns in the Sun and shade plants in full blazing sun and they are just wilting away in a matter of hours. It should be a crime to do that with all those plants. Why don't they just give them away if they're just going to let them die? I know you don't have the answers. It's just crazy to me and I have a hard time not picking up a hose and watering them myself 😂.

    • @HookedandRooted
      @HookedandRooted  26 днів тому +2

      Hi Linda! That is a great question. Usually, by how fast your soil dries put after a heavy rain. Here is an article I found which provides some detailed information and even a simple test you can do by making a planting hole, filling it with water, and timing how long it takes to drain. Hope this helps, and thank you so much for watching.

      @HookedandRooted  17 днів тому

      Hi Sarah, If you dig a whole for a plant before you plant it, spill some water into it, and see how fast it drains. The goal is for it to absorb and drain pretty quickly. If the water sits for a bit, its not well draining. There are ways to amend soil to improve drainage such as planting a little higher, and using good quality compost. Also, here's an article I found: www.gardeningknowhow.com/garden-how-to/soil-fertilizers/making-sure-soil-drains-well.htm

      I agree. It is best to shop local (whenever possible) and I often visit and support my local independently run nurseries and farms. I think people like Steph because she is genuine and knowledgable. Her presentation is like she is just naturally talking to us about gardening. I do not know anyone that does not use their hands when they talk or converse. Some more than others but we all do it. Question, would you have said that if you were there in person with Steph just talking gardening? Stating "Don't take this wrong, BUT" almost always precedes a comment best left unsaid.
