You might want to try using Lincoln 1/8" E7014 rods for these kinds of repairs. Great bead profile, wets in good with easy restarts. As usual, your no-shit (except when you are knee deep in shit) real world content and willingness to share the good, along with the bad, is a great benefit for those who are entertaining the notion of working for themselves. Goodonya, mate!
One thing you may have been able to do is put a clamp on one end of the dumpster and have the angle iron rest on the clamp, lifting it one end at a time.
Good job enjoy your videos I'm a 66yearold carpenter still working just getting into welding hopefully I can be able to help someone one day and learn more
build u some half clamps. half the time you go for heating and beating and a half clap may have done what u wanted to do. hell i would use it just for a perch for that angle to sit on so you could lever that angle up top. had me worried that lift looked tough. glad u stepped back and went for a safer option.
Great video keep it up. This one was good for me because im working on dumpsters too for my first welding job. Going to be using some of your tips come monday. Thanks I appreciate it
Ya I do need to see how you weld stuff and make it all work. Gives me knowledge and drive to try stuff and get the job done well and the best way possible. Great job sir.
Anthony, do yourself a favor and get a 50# can of 8018. For when you're in a bind and you can't run 7018 and you need the strength, crack resistance. I understand the argument 6010 not going crack if your bead is filled in and backfilled good on dry material. I think it would be well worth it to have available just to be completely sure of something.
Thanks for the video. I don’t comment much but you’ve really inspired me to get back into welding and building things. Keep it up man have a good weekend
Wow brother ever since I was in college and started bodybuilding I have been 230 pounds plus. I was hit on my 1957 Panhead and put on a 100 pounds while I was laid up with a crushed leg and a pulmonary embolism as well as clots that went to my heart. It took me a year plus to learn how to walk again but I am walking and trying to finish my bobber. Time to get back to welding also....
@@MeltinMetalAnthony Thank you I have to come down to go to USF and take care of some stuff and I am planning on riding my bobber down when I get it done as it gets warmer out. I am planning on moving back down to Tampa but hopefully we can get together for a beer and a hambuger when I get down there.
When Im.welding and run into those places where you can get optimum rod angle. BEND THE ROD!. You would have probably had some stops ans starts but you could have ran the 7018 uphill that way and completed that weld.
You might not be able to lift that angle, but at times being small helps. I'm 6' 7" and 300+ pounds. I could lift that angle I to place, but I wouldn't be able to get into that septic truck the other day
Use that welding blanket over the chain when pulling parts. If not get one of them cheap moving blankets from Harbor Freight. Broken chain will go through that windshield like nothing.
He has said before that his flux core 110v welder is a close second to his big stick welder. Most jobs just don’t require a rig that big. I love hearing that because I’m a flux core guy and I love it when professionals see it’s potential
Even if the customer says everything is there and ready to go. DON'T believe them, check it yourself, because they aren't welders !! They think everything is easy and "no problem", because that's how they want to pay for it. (Cheap)! So be realistic with them, and on your work order, state that there can be unforseen problems. ESPECIALLY when dealing with RUST AND.CORROSION !! Great Video. Thanks
I was once your size when I first got married. Good years of marriage/cooking bulked me up… I’m glad to know that I’m not the only one who think heavy metal can be C&$@ suckers too…LOL… Keep up the great videos. I hate doing heavy metal without a helper, but you adapted and overcame.
@@MeltinMetalAnthony Nice job. I wish I had a crane on my trailer. I will be fabricating one here soon. Limit will be about 500 lbs. Great video. Keep them coming.
so have u thought about getting a fume extractor welding helmet? really makes a huge diffrence and specially more comfortable than having a resiprator on while welding
You do know another easy way to get a heavy piece of angle iron up on a dumpster? Cut the angle in half and then weld it back together unless you don't trust your welds to be strong enough to work that way I mean afterall you'd probably end stitching your welds all the way down both sides of the angle anyhow. Right.
smaw rods have flux on them to prevent oxidation of the metaled metal while red hot. this flus is what he was referring to. after it burns, the flux becomes slag ion the weld bead that is removed with a wore brush. when using a smaw rod for filler metal, the flux is removed and the bare rod is melted into the smaw puddle
@@MeltinMetalAnthony I wish I could show you. You don’t go right to the big gap. You start were it’s kinda touching. Get ur tack real hot then hit it with hammer and go down the angle iron and it will close up. Thnank you have a good night. Meltin metal Anthony.
Hey 👋 Northern Michigan here. Gaps! Yeah man. I have on many occasions grabbed up 6011 for gap filling. 6011 and 10 are my friends. 7018 and I like to hang out as well. We all get along 😁. I like how you were able to rely on your reputation after the railing fall out gig. Nice work man. Keep it up. These dickhead pricks are constantly pushing us down. Gonna really need people like you more and more as this shit gets deeper.
6:25 You should have an apprentice helping you with this lifting stuff. Or, cut that piece in half with your torch, then weld it back together when you get it set in place. That's the name of the game isn't it? welding stuff back together? Edit: 7:25 I see you figured it out. Edit: 7:45 we know what it means, you are not using the proper sized rod and you are using a technique that wouldn't pass an xray or bend test. As long as it isn't a structural support or risks life or limb, farm welds and made up "techniques" are fine I guess. Don't guess it matters on an old dumpster. Edit: 8:05 I am surprised you were able to weld anything that high off the ground without having a shield from the wind (welding curtain or leather apron blocking the wind away from your welding area).
You should have been a equipment mechanic/welder if you wanted to get more into repairing equipment like you said in your other video.Thats where the real money is even tho you talk shit about being a mechanic that’s how you get around heavy equipment and most equipment mechanics know how to weld very well so why would the customer call a guy that just knows how to weld…
Next time lift one end on to the dumpster and walk the other end up the ladder. That burger looked dry as fuck!!!! I try to spend money at mom and pop places like that way before any chain or franchise. Are you really only 135??? My 9 yr old daughter is 5’ 0” @ 128lbs
Not strong enough to lift that steel, but smart enough to use the crane. Work smarter not harder, great job!
Exactly you can act like the tough guy all you want but when your 50 and ain’t got a back it’s your own damn fault!

Hey was wondering what kind of boots do you wear? Looking for a new set.

I would have used the crane before trying to put it up there by hand anyway.
Great video

You ever bend the rod
I'm not a welder and this is the third video I've watched from you.... I don't know what beating slag off of the rod means

Let’s see you do that with 3/8

All you had to do was put it on the top of the ladder put one side up tack it put the other side up then tack it boom you’re done.
