The “adoration, forms of” entry in the Jewish Encyclopedia (1st ed. 1906) gives a more detailed description of the history of prostration throughout Jewish and Christian history. Of particular note is the concluding paragraph, which says that the Muslim prayer postures, “are probably borrowed from the Jews of Arabia, who, being far removed from Jewish lore, have preserved many archaic customs.” The rational evidence for the truth of Islam that is described in the Why Islam is True course demonstrates that Muslims did not borrow this from the Jews of Arabia, but that they were taught it by God. But this conclusion acknowledges the point that is made in this video, viz., the ancient Jewish religion prostrated towards the Temple of Solomon just as Muslims prostrate towards the Ka’ba today. The Banni Israel had Salat as the only form of worshipping Allah SWT, but over their long history and the fact that all their neighboring countries were polytheistic, pagan people they gradually made changes to the faith. One of the changes was that they abandoned the Salat and instead introduced hyms, which in itself is a pagan practice. All the prophets, from Adam AS onwards bowed and prostrated to Allah SWT. The Jewish Salat, from what we hear, used to be 3 times a day ie Fajr, Zohr and Magrib but lately I have doubt on this. I think they had 4 Salat times and Asr was also there to make the 4 prayer times. We muslims, the ummah of the prophet Mohamed PBUH have 5 Salat times, where Isha is the 5th and last Salat of the day.
The reason why I think they had 4 prayer times with Asr is that we know that they had to perform 40 rakats per day, which is a huge number for a single individual to perform with work commitments and family needs - in those days they were mostly farmers, shepherds, craftsmen and traders in the souks. So their submmition of the 40 rakats was by congregation (like how we pray the Ramadan Tarawi), so individuals could come and perform 2, 4, 6...... or as many rakats they could perfom and leave, while others would join in. The time required for this would about 2 hours - compare this to our 20 rakat Tarawi, which takes about an hour. So, they would have started the 40 rakats at Asr and ended at Magrib, which is a plausable time line.

Well, if accuracy as well as the truth is the purpose, I think you need to distinguish monotheism from polytheism in every aspect possible. In that regard, the word 'temple' (even if we take its technical meaning of any 'HOUSE buit for worshiping') is better avoided because it does not only include the buildings for idol worship but also predominantly used to describe the polytheistic houses of worship. Rather the fact that Chirstians and Jews today use the word temple to describe the House (Bayt) of Solomon - is an indication for their willingness to distance themselves from the monotheistic concepts of Islam in preference to the pagan polytheistic concepts about a house of worship because the polytheist don't call their places of Idol worship 'house' or bayt.
Secondly, why on earth would the word 'house of Allah', be a wrong translation? It fact bayt does mean house (not necessarily somebody living in it) and when a muslim hears the term 'house of Allah' it never comes across his mind that a god or an idol is literally housed there (na'auzubillah, unlike how the word 'temple' resonates in the mind of an idol worshipper).
So I think on the point of the translation of Bayt, I humbly beg to differ, dear Sheikh. Its like you said, in order to bring ALL the people together, we just need to think and talk muslim instead of using the secular or non-muslim narratives (that - in your words - nobody is talking about). Likewise, we don't need to change the semantics either.
Better yet, do we always have to translate the word Baytullah? Why can't we use it at it is onriginally coined in the Quran? Or the other common names for the two houses including each of their vicinities - like the masjid ul haram and masjid ul aqsa (masjid meaning place where sujud i.e. prostrations to Allah i.e. worship takes place aplenty and masjidul haram is the masajid where bloodshed is explicitly made haram i.e. forbidden by God Himself and masjid ul aqsa is the masjid which is particularly blessed by God)

This is what Jesus peace be upon him said concerning the Temple Mount
As God lives, in whose presence my soul stands, if the Book of Moses with the book of our father David had not been corrupted by the human traditions of false Pharisees and doctors, God would not have given his word to me. And why speak I of the Book of Moses and the book of David? Every prophecy have they corrupted, in so much that today a thing is not sought because God has commanded it, but men look whether the doctors say it, and the Pharisees observe it, as though God were in error, and men could not err.
Woe, therefore, to his faithless generation, for upon them shall come the blood of every prophet and righteous man, with the blood of Zechariah son of Berachiah, whom they slew between the Temple and the altar! What prophet have they not persecuted? What righteous man have they suffered to die a natural death? Scarcely one! And they seek now to slay me. They boast themselves to be children of Abraham, and to possess the beautiful Temple. As God lives, they are children of Satan, and therefore they do his will: therefore the Temple, with the holy city, shall go to ruin, in so much that there shall not remain of the Temple one stone upon another.'

I do not think it is the case .Alaqussa compound which houses the dome of the Rock and other massajids is holly for us Muslims because Muhammad prophet was ascende to the heaven . The temple of Solemn is sacred because it was our first Quibla . The two cites are not supper imposing. Yet Jews are wrongfully incessant that the third Temple is in the Alaqussa compound which they call it Templemount. Please see “Temple Foundation “ film by Bob Curnoki eye opening and common sence film. May Allah open the eyes of Jews in time, whom are bent backwards to brink the Third Temple in Alaqussa Compound just to realize that they were wrong. In the Quran, no prophets or noble people committed horrible sins such as Solomon worship idols, Lot impregnant his 2 daughters, Aaron told Jews to make golden calf and worship it, David impregnant someone's wife, Noah drunk and naked, God planned to kill Moses, Jacob & his mother deceived Isaac, etc

Thank you. I think that is the wisdom of sticking to the original language as translation can cause a lot of confusions. I stick to Baitullah al-Haram or Masjidil Haram, thank you.
Although you are absolutely correct regarding the use of "temple" but at least in my country, where Hinduism, Buddhism and Confucius are also the main religions practiced, that word is heavily associated with idols and cause a lot of confusion.
Even more, to a certain extent (no offence to the other religion) there are some degree of disgust (un-rightly so) to that word (temple = kuil : I can see many fellow Muslims in my country will get offended if you ask them if they pray in a "kuil" instead of a masjid). We stick to Masjid thank you.
I humbly think that not all Muslims say Kaaba is the literal house of God and thus God stays there (ﻣﺨﺎﻟﻔﺘﻪ ﻟﻠﺤﻮﺍﺩﺙ) . Well, at least not the Muslims that I know of.
I humbly think it's the responsibility of parents to explain to their children about the 20 compulsory attributes/characteristic of God.

@@LanguageLearning13 Yes, I understand you ~ because it is a translation of a translation.
Temple in our language is Kuil.
Kuil, based on the official national dictionary (Dewan Bahasa dan Pustake) is defined as "Rumah Berhala" Rumah=house, Berhala=Idols. or "tempat memuja dewa-dewa" tempat=place, memuja=worship, dewa-dewa=deities.
So, in our language and in my country, we won't use kuil (temple) for the muslims here.
For the muslims, wwe use"masjid" with synonym of surau, madrasah. (although the Arabic language meaning of madrasah might be a bit different from the Malay version).

Don't get me wrong. I do agree with the use of "Temple" described by the Ustaz ~ just that I won't use it within my local communities in fear of offending them. It might work with local academicians though.

Maa Shaa Allah! May Allah reward you abundantly for expounding very well on this very vital and relevant subject. I like your concordance approach to the subject matter rather than confrontational approach. I have a number of issue though to discuss with you on this subject. Since I have written a book entitled: Who was the son of sacrifice Ishmael or Isaac?
    1. We know that in Islam our primary evidence is the Qur'an and Sunnah. The Bible may be used as secondary or corroborating evidence.
    2. When we discuss religious and historical affairs especially dealing with places of worship such as: Masjid, Church, Monasteries, Synagogues and Temples. I strongly think we cannot use the English dictionary to define the meanings of these places of worship cause both the Bible and the Qur'an for that matter were not revealed in the English Language.
    3. The widely spoken temple of Solomon or rather that Prophet Solomon built a temple for the worship of Allah has no evidence neither in the Qur'an nor the Sunnah. On the contrary there is an authentic hadith that the second Masjid to be build after Masjid Al-Haraam (the Kaaba) was Masjid al-Aqsaa also mentioned in Qur'an 17:1.
    4. The word temple as you rightly said in your presentation is used for places of idol worship such as the Hindu temple, the Buddhist temple etc. It is inconceivable that Prophet Solomon built a temple for the worship of idols as he was accused of by the ancient scribes of the Old Testament (1King 11:1-5).
    5. Rather Solomon if at all he build a house for the worship of Allah it is perhaps plausible that he renovated the Masjid in Jerusalem that may have been built by Prophet Abraham and his son Isaac (p.b.u.t) reflect on the following in Sahih Bukhari
Narrated Abu Dharr (r.a): I said, "O Allah's Messenger Muhammad (s.a.w)! Which masjid was built first?" He replied, "Al-Masjid-al-Haraam (the grand mosque at Makkah)." I asked, "Which (masjid was built) next?" He replied, "Al-Masjid-al-Aqsaa (the mosque in Jerusalem)." I asked, "What was the period of construction between the two?" He replied, "Forty years." He added, "Wherever (you may be, and) the Salaah (prayer) time becomes due, perform the Salaah there, for the best thing is to do so [i.e., to offer the Salaah in time]."
    6. Forty years between the building of the grand Masjid in Makkah and the grand Masjid IN Jerusalem helps us to make an intelligent guess that it is most likely that Prophet Abraham who built the grand Masjid in Makkah with his son Ishmael is the same who built the grand Masjid in Jerusalem with his son Isaac famously known as Masjid al-Aqsaa. That was later renovated by Prophet King Solomon. A difference of forty years in the construction of the two Masaajid would most likely have found Prophet Abraham still alive since we are told in the Bible that Abraham died at a good age of 175 years.
    7. To call Masjid Al-Haraam in Makkah the temple of Abraham is a bit queer since the term temple has neither been used in the Qur'an nor the Sunnah.
    8. No where in the Qur'an or the Sunnah or the Bible does it say Prophet King Solomon built a temple. What we have is that Prophet King David was told by Allah that his son Solomon would built a House for the worship of Allah alone. The term used as you rightly said is Bayt (House) 2 Samuel 7:8-13. For you to extrapolate that to mean temple is a bit far fetched.
    9. Having established that Prophet King Solomon (p.b.u.h) did not built a temple for the worship of Idols. Therefore the claims of the Zionist to rebuild a temple that was never built in the first place only makes the situation in Jerusalem more toxic than it already is. Moreover, there is already a Masjid in the area for the worship of Allah. To make the claim that Solomon built a temple only exacerbate the current genocidal situation in Palestine.

Jews should be allowed to pray at their most holy site and not just a random wall. It’s so sad that their holy site is right up the hill and all they can do is pray to a measly little wall. Brother, I've really enjoyed this series and the way it aims to unite all people and regards us all as people of Allah. I was interested in your point about referring to the kabbah, as the temple of Abraham - if we did this, isn't there a possibility that others would think that we were venerating Abraham?

Except wasn’t the Temple of Solomon (AS) built by the jinn under his control? Whereas the Kaaba was built by a man with Divine inspiration. Is this correct, or am I confused about the temple of Solomon?

Yes Solomon controlled the jinn who helped build it under his command. They even continued to toil after Solomon passed away. When his staff fell apart, and his dead body collapsed the jinn even said, if we had known he had passed, we wouldn't have continued to work in hardship.

The Prophet PBUH faced Masjid Al-Aqsa (the 1st Qibla of Muslims) before being asked by Allah SWT to turn towards Bait Allah (Ka’aba).
Saying that he faced the Temple of Solomon is NOT true. Even it is NOT historically proven that Masjid Al-Aqsa was built on the site of that Temple which the Romans destroyed.

@@BasiraEducation but the Quran doesnt call "Temple of Solomon" as bayt, it specifically calls it Masjid Al Aqsa. So why don't you translate Masjid as mosque instead of temple which has connotations with idol worship.

Not stealing anything. The Muslims freed Jews from oppression, only in the last 100 years it changed by Athiests hijacking the religion of Judaism & using it as a mask to do a colonial project via ethnic cleansing & war. Even the father of Zionism is Theodore Hertzl, an atheist Jew who wanted to find the land God promised to Jews. Does that make sense?
Also Theodore hertzl, affirmed that for that to happen you have to fight the indigenous people.

Unfortunately, there was no King Solomon. The so-called temple was where Thutmoses 3rd used to do his pharaonic rituals every day when he lay seize of the area. After regaining control, he built a small military camp and small temple for his gurds so that they can guard the outpost and pray after he returned to his capital. Amenhotep iii rebuilt this when he became the Pharaoh. The real temple that everyone tries to claim a so-called Solomon's temple is standing right in Luxor. There was no Daud or David or Solomon. They were Thutmoses 3rd and Amenhotep iii.
