    God I love this show. It had everything. Catcthy theme music, flashy set, excellent gameplay (w/intriguing clues), classy host, great contestants... it had it all.

    This is the version I remember when I was kid. I absolutely loved this show, along with many others. I would love to see this and classic episodes of The Price Is Right on GSN.

    Wow great job Rick! I won big on a game show too, (Wheel of Fortune) but I'd have to say you're the complete package, great personality and a very good player. Congratulations, and if you have any more shows of Scrabble that you were on I'd love to see you play more.

    Nicely done, Mr. Mandl. Used to watch this show with my mom. A lot of contestants in the game show world come and go, but you seemed downright likable.

    Scrabble seems like Merv Griffithin's Crossword. And the thing is that both shows had a short run on Television.

    The reason for his speedy talking was that he used to be a Top 40 DJ; radio announcers have a tendency to do that. But nowadays, they talk slower and listeners don't get confused as to what was being said. I found it odd for him talking fast, too, but that's part of his personality.

    Fremantle owns the rights to both Scrabble and Sale of the Century. I agree that they should pull their heads out of their nether-regions and let these great shows air on GSN.

    Hey, Rick. You think you can post the rest of these Scabble episodes that you were on? If you have them? Scrabble was one of my favorite game shows and until GSN gets their heads out of their nether-reigions and gets the rights to it, I'll have to rely on UA-cam to see it.

    @The1980sRock true i have to say that the 70 to the late 80s are the golden age of game shows. Almost every show from all 3 networks(CBS,NBC, and ABC) was a hit.

    • @megamanj2004X
      @megamanj2004X 3 роки тому

      Even though by the 1980s and early 1990s abc-TV had no new hit game shows. Family Feud with Richard Dawson, which premiered on July 1976 and ran until June 1985 carried abc Daytime’s ratings. Every new game show abc Daytime premiered after the original Feud did never lasted more than 6 months on average.
      Plus by the 1980s and the 1990s abc Daytime became far more focused on their soap operas and it showed why their new game shows were short-lived.

    • @megamanj2004X
      @megamanj2004X 3 роки тому

      And most of abc’s 1980s game shows went up against Scrabble on NBC and The Price is Right on CBS, both big hit game shows of the 1980s, which didn’t help.

    You had guts while introducing yourself, Rick. If you ask me, Chuck looked a little annoyed when you mentioned your tarantula's name. Probably reminded him of the little show that he used to host in the 70s, which I know you were a contestant on, but still. Have you seen the clip from "Greed" when a contestant took a stab at Chuck for that?

    @The1980sRock no kidding cartoons were the best too during the 80's only Sonic the hedgehog in 1993 t0 1995 and Pokemon were the best cartoons of the 1990's and Teenagemutant Ninjaturtles

    Does Rick still have the money he won from that show?...or you reckon he spent it all since 1987? LOL I bet he did put some and saved it for later in the future..i would had if i was his age back then. Sometimes i wish i was a teenager in the 80's instead of a little 6 year old when that episode right there was aired. So i could enjoy more things back then and wear those M.C. Hammer parachute pants. LOL

    there were 70s and 80s shows that were not the best or most popular of all time, while all three networks and syndication had quite a few in those days, some were quite short lived.

    As much as I like Chuck, Scrabble always looked rigged to me. I don't think it mattered what numbered tiles they chose. If they were liked by the producers, they wouldn't get the stoppers.
