When I was a freshman in college, my roommate was Jamaican. I am white (from USA) and she and I were constantly asking each other about the differences in our cultures. We talked all the time about how we cared for our hair- washing, styling, dyeing, cutting etc. I loved having her for my roommate and I learned so much from her. Years later and we still stay in touch, but my hope is to visit her in her own country. Fingers crossed I will one day.

We have the best texture of hair we do not need all that, all we need is just a comb a pic or a brush when it comes to braiding or planting our hair and maybe just a little grease to the scalp and the grease is made out of natural items.
I was just think how hard must it be to keep the dust out in that environment. When I lived near a beach I just had to accept having sand in my hair 24/7 just with the wind, and the best days were hair wash days. Got to be free for just a little while, till I had to go back outside.
As an African American, thinking that this is exactly what I do with my mom when we take care of our hair, and this is is exactly what it looks like feels comforting that by nature I’m still connected to Africa. What I never want to lose in my life, is my connection to African American culture and African culture in little everyday things like this.
Our ancestors are African. They literally passed it down to us. We have our own culture but we obviously can’t get rid of what our ancestors gave us lol

She is totally modern and occidentalised. If you want ancestral method tchek out the process women are using in Tchad, with very long, healthy and nourished hair thanks to chebs powder. African American are not connected to Africa. Only thing in common is melanin let’s be honest now. You should improved your American origins and « traditions » than feeling African and generates differences between « races » in your own country.
I’m tender-headed and my hair is thick 4c like this. When she started picking through her dry hair I flinched so hard 😂 But watching the rest of the video it’s wild how similar her process is to what was done when I went to the salon as a kid. @@Lovesromantic22 The African salon near me used to braid your hair as it was but I guess they have new braiders now because they will want to blow dry your hair too. And they do it DRY while coming through your hair with a fine tooth comb. Breakage city.
Cause it’s commercial braiding and is much harder to braid soaking wet hair, plus it tangles quickly! So they have to blow dry. Try braiding your hair wet! They have other customers to attend to.

I'm originally from Panama where we have all cultures in one, I always thought well my hair is complete different from the other races and we was Never and still not thought how to take care of our unique texture, and so hair routine was a nightmare all way up to my 40's til I finally let it grow on it's own and starting using the right products (lots of moisture) but I really love me some nice thick , fluffy black hair, Im so proud of my African culture.

She has beautiful thick hair 😍. You're quite good at braiding and very gentle. As a tip, use a little water on your hands and smooth it through sections of the hair to dampen the hair a bit when detangling. It makes the hair more malleable. My hair is very similar.
Wow. I am a white man who has it very easy when it comes to hair. My best friend and I were roommates and I use to watch her do her hair. She does not have it easy like this woman because when it's humid out her hair just volumizes. it makes it harder when you have to wash hair with jugs of water but I'm glad the kids are helping out. Her hair came out beautiful. You can tell it's a lot of work and poor girl was falling asleep in the end. I love your videos.

It is better to water the hair then comb. But, either way the results came out great. Everyone have their own unique way of doing hair. Combing dry is a bad idea in away because it would pull it out more then wetting if you really think about it? If wet? The hair have a better chance to smooth out correctly without pulling the rest of the hair. But, like I said this was fun to watch. Everyone has their own opinions. I am 45+ years and have been taking care of my hair naturally from age 15 years. I was with warm water and unscented bar soap, then the final rinse I use cold/room temperature water, straighten it a little and finally plait it. My hair is 50cm long and full💃💃💃💃💃💃 Keep it up girl

our hair is extremely fragile and has the finest strands of any race....that's why it breaks easily and needs as little manipulation as possible

Hi Angella, if you spray the hair with water before combing, it becomes soft and manageable plus it helps the hair to grow 👍🏾🙂
No. She did it the right way the way she did it. Wetting the hair before combing it does nothing but make your hair more susceptible to breakage.

I am 45+ years and have been taking care of my hair naturally from age 15 years. I was with warm water and unscented bar soap, then the final rinse I use cold/room temperature water, straighten it a little and finally plait it. My hair is 50cm long and full💃💃💃💃💃💃 Keep it up girl
