The main issue for me with Lego Worlds was not that there where not enough IP brick sets, more that the gameplay goals where boring. In theory you can go around on many planets and just build, but there needs to be goals, stuff you can play around with. Like Villages in Minecraft, that simple thing can be very fun to just build a Village and have the Villagers live in it. Lego Worlds had no survival gameplay or the means to make up own game types, like the ability to create a race track or a FPS like experience. Stuff Garry's Mod can do.
Indeed. I personally think the game would have been way better if the worlds just had more conciseness. There is a lot of different and creative worlds... but in each of them, we just see random structures randomly placed... random NPC randomly walking around in random places... Imagine how much fun it would be if we could find worlds that actually felt like worlds? Entire kingdoms and cities that made sense, instead of being just a clutch of random structures! If, to find the king, you actually had to go to the throne room in his castle, and to find a mummy, explore through theirs tombs... instead of them just being walking around everywhere. If monsters walked in groups, and even clashed with other armies! If there were more temples, castles and dungeons with several challenges and puzzles that would grant you actually interesting rewards! (Of course, you would be able to bypass most of that using your build/destruction tools... but you would still have the option to do them the proper way) If the quests on each world fitted better their theme! (Like, imagine being able to take part in actual naval battles in pirates worlds, or if in a Wild West world, you got a quest to find the bandits' lair, retrive the stolen gold and take it back to the bank!) In other words, I think that the game would be so much better if, instead of just the general "skin" on randomly generated and placed stuff, each world actually felt like its own adventure in that theme!
@@malcerne7496 I play right now Grounded, which has Zelda-like dungeons in the form of Labs and caves in which you usually have to find some switch to get everywhere. I had a cave where you has a ball you had to push, so you can use it as a platform to reach some goodies. Other places, outside, require you to use the building mechanics to reach spots. After trying out that "LEGO® Bricktales Demo" you could make it so puzzles require the builder tools to solve the puzzles, which could be dressing up as a certain character, building platforms/ladders among other stuff. I really think, after playing Grounded for a while, they would have been better served if they HAND-MADE one world per tile set. And then similar to Dragon Quest Builders 2 you can visit RNG generated worlds but that is a side gig.
It WAS and STILL is an amazing game with so much potential. I still play it from time to time even now in 2023. It just wasn’t followed up with a sequel. I bought it when it was still in early access in 2015. Updates continued for several more years and then it passed into memory. I would argue it’s the best game Lego ever made and I have yet to see any Lego Game come close to surpassing it in terms of pure creativity or fun. Every other game that Lego came out with pretty much follows the same formula. You progress of the game unlock all the characters get to the end, and then you have no reason to play it after that. What made Lego Worlds different was the sand box mode that allowed you to literally build anything. Because of that there are many people who continue to play Lego worlds long after they stopped updating it simply because there’s no end to what you can build. I think Lego drew the wrong conclusion from Lego worlds. I think they assumed because it didn’t sell enormous numbers of copies that it wasn’t worth revisiting. But the fact is people still play Minecraft a game where are the characters are literally just blocks the fact that so many people would play a game with such terrible graphics in a time when you can get games with amazingly pristine graphics tells you a lot about how popular sandbox games are and that there’s a segment of gamers who love to just build things. I would argue that Lego worlds was superior and just about every way to Minecraft. Certainly it looks a lot better and so if they decided to make a sequel or just update the 2017 game. People would definitely play it.

Thank you for shedding a little light on how it ended. It's not much, but it definitely seems like it's dead on the shelf. Personally, my favorite update was when they added first person mode. Exploring lego buildings from a first person perspective had always been a dream of mine and I'm happy it was realized in some small part.
So it ended because of Minecraft. Makes me so sad. LEGO Worlds was always my favourite video game ever, I built a giant city in it with many layers reaching from sewers to the top of giant skyscrapers. So much more possibilities for detail than in Minecraft. I spent hours in the game and recently revisited my world. It's so nostalgic, the music is perfect, the sounds, the adventure, everything. This is LEGO. And I know this would have been the best game ever had they ever finished Survivor mode - the resource system, advanced enemy combat and collecting bricks as well would have made the game perfect. It also rains in the Survivor trailer so weather would have probably been a part of it also making it last forever. Here's hoping for a sequel.
I honestly doubt it has the ability to have more details than Minecraft. Maybe vanilla Minecraft, sure. That being said, I do think it's unfortunate Lego Worlds ended. It's just difficult to make these kinds of blocky sandbox games, without feeling like it's a Minecraft copycat.
If Lego World's had every Lego Piece from the Lego Universe, especially to stick them upside down, to place everything every how, to be really creative as Lego has done since the beginning of time, Lego could feature a game full of all their pieces in variety fashions and use every categorical objects. Sky is the limit in our imagination.
I still play it to this day because I love the hell out of the creativity that you have in this game, But the sad thing is that if you make a map like big map and do a lot of stuff in it like build a big city, not even enough to cover the entire map, there is a limited memory of space for the map and after you just can’t place more bricks man. Still love the hell out of this game

With all the fantastic idle animations and so much going on from simple key presses it really is (on of?) the best "first" game for a small child. Colorful, comical.. i would love to see Lego Minecraft of minecraft 2 inspired by Lego 1.Location = different theme like pirates in sea n islands, jungle w indians, desert w egypt stuff n western ,underwater, space etc. I do think lego oldschool themes from 90s are best for this 2.construct your cars, vehicles 3.smaller bricks, n assets like toilet, table, chair) This would be perfect lego / lego inspired game w i always wanted :~(
Need mods for game. Its only hope. Sominthing like sets and pices from LEGO Technic, or LEGO Duplo! More animal and vehicles. Star Wars! Or 90s set like Royal Knight and Aquazone!
Frustrating that they dont let you duplicate worlds. Aside from saving it parts at a time. I wanted to create different versions of my world without recreating the "base" world.
Nothing happened. It was a great game and Lego and Traveler’s Tales finally broke the mold of games that revolve around level progression where you progress through the game unlock all the secrets and then forget all about the game you played. They introduced a Sand Box mode and provided the player with all the creative tools and assets to build their own world out of legos. It’s the kind of game that you can play over and over again because there is no level progression. Instead you have an open sandbox where you can build to your hearts content. Lego worlds was really a game ahead of its time when it came out and to this day there hasn’t been another game quite like it in terms of raw creativity. In many ways, Lego worlds managed to capture the very essence of why people used to collect those plastic blocks in the first place. people play with Legos, not to rehash the same story over and over and over again, but to build new things, and each time come away with a new experience. There really wasn’t any gaming system out there that could run the game at full resolution the sheer size of what you could build was staggering. It’s no exaggeration to say that Lego has never made any game like it before or since and that’s the problem they made the best game they ever made. They finally created something that was truly creative and that allowed people to basically make anything that they wanted to make, and then they never followed it up with a sequel or continue to refine and redefine what you could make. Why we never had a Lego Worlds 2 I don’t think I will ever understand but I suspect it’s for the same reason why so many great scifi series get canceled. Why was there never a dark matter season four? Or a a third season of Fire Fly or Terminator Sarah Connor Chronicles season 3. There are plenty of people who would watch any of those future series but the producers decided that there wasn’t enough money to be made to continue the story so that’s how dreams die on the cutting room floor. On the bright side you can still play Lego Worlds and it still looks amazing in 2023. But the studio that made it has forsaken the fans and decided to return to the old ways of making games. Games with level progression where once you make it to the end and unlock everything that’s been hidden away you no longer have any reason to ever play the game again because apparently that makes money. So No Lego Worlds 3 just more level progression story driven games that no one will remember a few years after they get released.
I played on ps4 and it was a buggy mess completely unplayable. It was a fun game that had so much potential and they just gave up on it. It could've been like minecraft 😫😫😫
This was a great game it was just not noticed and have enough story or things to do because it being more of a sandbox but it is one of my favourites there is so much to do
I had it on the switch and I loved it and would definitely still play it, but it is just so buggy, I tried making the mall and it wasn't even that big, and now whenever I try to open up that world again the game crashes, if they ever do the Sequel that had more Lego old builds, more minifigures, and more unique dungeons, it would be the best game ever
What ruined this game for me was rhe draw distance. Idk if its like this only on switch but it used to be a pretty large draw distance but now i can barely see 20 ft in front of me due to poor draw distance
Why did they undo the open world stuff? It looked so awesome as just this open world with cool little things dotted around to find and work with, and you could build anything. AND IT REALLY WAS MADE OUT OF ALL LEGO! But then they must have just fucking shat on it, by turning it into like small fucking islands and making a story. It sucked.
I wish this game was like LU or at least had more of its own stuff though I’m not against having other sets in it. Mainly it just really sucks that the game was thrown to the side and forgotten.
Game runs great in 2024 on a 2020 PC. Still a few bugs that never got fixed, but pretty good on the whole. I just started playing on a PC after playing several years ago on a PS. The seems to be so much more that either wasn't in the PS version or I couldn't find so I'm seeing a lot of stuff for the first time.
I still don't know what happened to the game I got it on early access but the store page has been blocked in my region for quite a while now.. no way to see store page or DLCS, I hope it comes back but its been years, this game for some whatever reason is blocked in the whole Asian region.
There is a bit of stuff going on in the Lego Games modding community. Lego Worlds was once considered almost impossible to mod. But 5 days ago someone released a mod adding Anakin and Obi-Wan to the game which is honestly impressive. Maybe one day we will be able to have more mods added to Lego Worlds. We'll see
If Lego were to remake Lego Worlds, I'd want it to be like Minecraft. Only with new features and players can create their own minifigure and/or mini doll as their avatars.
Well, if you want the truth, then it is simply a lot of short-sighted idiocy by the suits, that, and they were also stupid enough to not work with Mojang and simply make this the second project that they would be having, seeing as LEGO literally has a working relationship with Minecraft through one of its themes. Moreover, a lack of proper story telling, a lack of clarity on the objectives in the story (which also appears in LEGO Brick Tales), and a lack of properly understanding the nature, as well as the intent, of LEGO, all contributed to the death of this game.
Lego Worlds had immense potential.I think it would have been better as a first-person game than third-person. TPP controls are very wierd compared to popular games like GTA, RDR, etc. Also TPP controls I feel aren't suited that well into the building mechanics that Lego Worlds was trying to achieve. Its first-person mode is also wierd. Despite these criticisms, I quite liked it. The adventure mode lacked depth which Minecraft had.
I started playing in early 2023 and what is happening I'm mostly now spending time researching how to get the golden dragon on ps5 becuase its glitched
I think devs looking into problem from wrong angle especially when comparing themselvest to another game; in this example it was Minecraft. Minecraft, as no other Lego IP, is made in PC and for PC first; later it is ported to other devices. Therefore it's a smooth experience with keyboard and mouse, when moving, when aiming, when fighing or building, and especially when inventory managing, it's all smooth and perfectly fit for keyboard and mouse use. So you don't keep jump between everexpanding different tree of UIs and/or wheel-selection tools. When I see any game is made by taking priority of consoles first and design the user interface for the controllers and after port into PC as is, may live a hype for a short time but gonna lose in the end whatever they do. Plus the modders community; Minecraft would have die looong ago if it wasn't made in such a way to easily be modded and if there wasn't modders keeping it new always. Therefore they have to consider both casual players and hardcore communities at the same time when making a game if they want it to be long-lived. Have anyone see hardcore minecrafters, streamers, content creators on consoles? They won't even play anthing other than "java edition", so there lies the answer. These devs have no idea of what Minecraft as a sandbox is able to do when comparing themselves to it.

2.construct your cars, vehicles
3.smaller bricks, n assets like toilet, table, chair)
This would be perfect lego / lego inspired game w i always wanted :~(
Need mods for game.
Does anybody think people burnt out trying to get the dragon wizard questline? (It’s almost impossible for me)
Nothing happened.
When I got the game I thought it would be like minecraft creative like you can just make whatever but you can’t and the worlds are so small
I love this game!
*IT DOESN'T LOAD ANYMORE.*
I played on ps4 and it was a buggy mess completely unplayable. It was a fun game that had so much potential and they just gave up on it. It could've been like minecraft 😫😫😫
I've 300 games and this is the best one
I kinda wish this game was still being updated it was a very fun game building cities
They should update this game with more bricks, more things to do and room to build as much as you want. But I guess money is the problem.
This was a great game it was just not noticed and have enough story or things to do because it being more of a sandbox but it is one of my favourites there is so much to do
I think it had a lot of potential it just fizzled out too quickly
It’s really good for building Lego model ideas before you build it in real life
I had it on the switch and I loved it and would definitely still play it, but it is just so buggy, I tried making the mall and it wasn't even that big, and now whenever I try to open up that world again the game crashes, if they ever do the Sequel that had more Lego old builds, more minifigures, and more unique dungeons, it would be the best game ever
1500 bricks simply wasn’t enough
What ruined this game for me was rhe draw distance. Idk if its like this only on switch but it used to be a pretty large draw distance but now i can barely see 20 ft in front of me due to poor draw distance
I really want a Lego world 2 there is a really cool April fools joke video for it that looks fun
I saw stampy play it back in the day and liget the same day i saw it i bought it
Why did they undo the open world stuff? It looked so awesome as just this open world with cool little things dotted around to find and work with, and you could build anything. AND IT REALLY WAS MADE OUT OF ALL LEGO! But then they must have just fucking shat on it, by turning it into like small fucking islands and making a story. It sucked.
I wish this game was like LU or at least had more of its own stuff though I’m not against having other sets in it. Mainly it just really sucks that the game was thrown to the side and forgotten.
I wanted to play it so much but I just couldnt as it crashed every 15 to 20 minutes pn my PS4. I played for 6 hours and just gave up on it.
I'm surprised there haven't been any mods to just turn it into lego minecraft
I still don't know what happened to the game I got it on early access but the store page has been blocked in my region for quite a while now.. no way to see store page or DLCS,
I hope it comes back but its been years, this game for some whatever reason is blocked in the whole Asian region.
fortnite rn
It dropped in 2015, not 2017. I remember playing it in my dorm when it just randomly dropped on steam.
makin it out of candy construction capers wit this one!!!!!!!!
We'll see
It's on sale , think it's worthwhile if you've never played it?
It was great but for some reason it crashed when I opened the discovery tool like 70% of the time
If Lego were to remake Lego Worlds, I'd want it to be like Minecraft. Only with new features and players can create their own minifigure and/or mini doll as their avatars.
Together with my son of 5, we play daily. we have so much fun!!!!! hoping for a new openworld game like lego city undercover/lego worlds
I still play
Wouldn't it be cool if someone gathered fans of Lego worlds and made a fanmade sequel?
*coughs*.
They removed the open (infinite) world that used to be there in early access?
Lego Worlds had immense potential.I think it would have been better as a first-person game than third-person. TPP controls are very wierd compared to popular games like GTA, RDR, etc. Also TPP controls I feel aren't suited that well into the building mechanics that Lego Worlds was trying to achieve. Its first-person mode is also wierd. Despite these criticisms, I quite liked it. The adventure mode lacked depth which Minecraft had.
This game needs more dlc, imagine a Minecraft dlc!
Ya I play Lego worlds on my switch and I'm 57.
I started playing in early 2023 and what is happening I'm mostly now spending time researching how to get the golden dragon on ps5 becuase its glitched
I re downloaded this game today just because of its simple fun factor
I wish it had more dlc and other lego crossovers. Maybe have a lego badman world or sumn
Guys my Lego worlds on my Ps5 Is not working the game As soon as I press the load game button it gets stuck in a loop please help me
Very good game that didn't get enough support.
2017… Dang…
This Game Is God Tier Now They Just Make Games From Star Wars Wish They Still Update It In This Game I Want New Dinos Animals + New Builds And Humans And I’ve Been Playing For 1 Year And 1 Day And I’m Sad That That Lego Had To Update Other Lego Games Now The Other Games Like Jurassic World Are…………BORING!! (and I wouldn’t want a sequel)
I got all the achievements in this game, so technically I finished it
What ruined the game was the terrible controls
ngl nothing happened lol, i just got the game like after 5 years of it being out XD
This game was great for people who are minecrafted out.
Who else use the paint tool and painted the world in neon colors
This game was so nostalgic to me
I didint like this game because I thought of it as a story based game, didint rlly give any clarification and the intro gave the idea of a campaign. other than the first few worlds
I miss it.
I think Fortnite Lego sucks, i really had fun playing Lego WORLDS but the worlds are to small. But i hope one day there comes a Minecraft kind of Lego game. Visually Minecraft could not appeal to me.
I try to play and cry
Can you still play this online on ps4?
I think they did lego fortnite instead. The market seem to get fed up with survival games though.
It has been turned into LEGO Fortnite
ngl i just bought this today for 5.00 on the nintendo eshop
Ah nice! Have fun!
i got it when it came out :( in 2017
Who doesn't?
