Hey Johnny here's some stuff you can take into consideration heading into this next season. This is the paragraph that you asked for. 1) *It's getting crowded!* - Move Muzzin- you have too many LD and eventually he's just going to take up the spot that should be Sandin's. Sandin needs to grow at some point in time rather than sitting with a diminished role or in the AHL. Brodie should slot onto the 1st pairing nicely in the meantime. Throw Korpisalo into this so you can get a 1st rounder and top 9/depth FWD... !!A productive defense is underrated, so try to find as many scheme fits as you can while also putting your youngest players in a position for short and long-term success. Have defensive depth, but not too too much. A solid top 6 then 2 good depth options.!! 2) *Focus on goaltending!* - Sign Andersen to a 3/4 year deal because that cap hit is can't-miss. - Trade or sign for goalie prospect Stuart Skinner(not sure if he's a free agent this season or not). He should be a young Medium Starter potential goalie that will soon be able to slot in as the backup and potentially starter if you can develop him properly. - Trade Virtanen or Puljujarvi for a draft pick that you will specifically use to draft a high end GOALIE in the upcoming draft. Sign a replacement for him. Also emphasize scouting goalies this upcoming season. One goalie prospect in the mix isn't enough. You need 2 or 3 in case one or two don't pan out. Plus if multiple develop then you have good trade bait(just don't cheese the trades). 3) *Invest in your future, don't kill it!* - If the Leafs had recently won a cup or anything in the playoffs I might be more sentimental, but you CAN'T let Rielly walk for free. If he continues to have a high asking price, you literally can't afford to not trade him sometime before the upcoming deadline. Trade him for the best lottery pick you can get from a team that actually wants to get rid of it. Remember that you have Muzzin(who you should trade as stated above), Brodie, Dermott(who can also be moved for Sandin to fit in), Sandin and Gavrikov at LD so you no matter what have a short term replacement for him that has potential to grow...
@@RandomPerson-gn7fu in the one of the streams he looked at Goalie Stats and it actually makes sense now. John Gibson has Insane stats and carried the ducks like he does in real life
Trade Muzzin he’s already 32 and is gonna fall off the cliff being already at 85overall. Take advantage of the Value. Then use the cap to resign Reilly. JP has a crap ton of value and wants way to much. Trade the bum. Let Korpi walk
Goaltending is a lot more accurate this year. Last year an 83 overall goaltender could play just as well as an 88 however that’s not the case anymore. You need a goalie with a solid overall to actually do well during the season. I think you should move on from korpisalo cuz I don’t see him doing well at all and he’s asking for a lot of money for an 83. You might as well re sign Andersen imo. If you can get him for around 5.5 as an 87 then that would be a solid contract.
That’s just not true lmao. If you build a good enough team in front your goalies literally still don’t matter for shit. I’ve played probably 5 or 6 GM modes already and have won multiple cups with 55+ win seasons with 82 overall or worse goalies
@El Chivato well it depends how good your defence was in front of him. If you had a stacked D then ofc your goalie will perform better. I’ve done career sims for different players, not touching any of the teams and at the end of each year the goaltenders who preformed the best were the ones with the higher overall. Guys like Vasilevskiy, Price, Bobrovsky, Andersen, Rask all had the best GAA’s. There was no 83 overall stealing the show and at the top of the list like you’d see quite often in nhl 20. If they played really well and want a lot of money for an extension like Puljujarvi, they will ask for less money if you wait until preseason to sign them.

John, here is my take on what you should to with the d core First, Sign Rielly, hes still going to have great influence on the team, and will be like your Carlsson, Hanfin, and Vorobyov from Seattle. Sign him to a 2 YEAR extension so he still has the one year if his 5 Mil deal and then the 2 years at 8.750. This will give you the time to groom Sandin and Liljegren to become that next top tier TWD that you need in the core. After the two year extension is up, you decide what is needed, if he stays or leaves. Next, check Liljegren and Sandin's Defensive preferences with Beckett's scheme since she is the coach moving forward. If Sandin and/or Liljegren is the same as Rielly, trade the one with different chemistry. But if they have the same, then trade Sandin. Sandin is high Top 4. He will have good trade value, But Liljegren will have better since he is MED elite and will hopefully grow more. If Liljegren does not fit Beckett's scheme at all, however, trade him. Next, Trade Brodie, Muzzin, and Dermot for 2 Offensive Defencmen and 1 Defensive Defenceman. Your D pairs after should look of something like Bear-Gav OFD-DFD OFD-Reilly/Sandin/Liljegren (Sandin and Liljegren for the future) This might make your blue line weak for year two, but i think that it's a sacrifice that is needed for long term success for the Leafs. With the trade value system based off of the season that a player had, if Brodie plays well again next season, then you could trade him at the draft for a top ten even top 7 pick possibly. Muzzin needs to be traded ASAP because hes more expensive than what Brodie is and could screw you by the extra 625k that he makes. Travis Dermott is a piece that is very movable. 1.8 Mil for next year is extremely movable, but with your cap situation, getting rid of him alone does not make sense.
You should absolutely extend Morgan Reilly for 8-years/8.750M. Look at how much players like Lilejegren and Puljujarvi after just 1 year of growth - Reilly is already an established elite defenseman at the age of 27 that can become the cornerstone of the defense in rhythm with Matthews/Tavares leading the offense. With the chemistry and lines you can arrange - there's no need to worry about him declining even at age 34-35 when that deal expires. Don't be deceived by the poor playoff sim vs. Boston, ALL of your top guys struggled including Matthews, that Boston top 3 was over-whelming and would make the vast majority of teams in the NHL look bad. Lock him up long-term and then you have a core of Reilly/Bear/Gavrikov and can start scouting compliment partners for him like you did for Jake Bean with the Stallions. Pull the trigger Superbman!
Cause he was a repeat offender, he was the biggest difference maker in the 2019 series I firmly believe we would’ve got it done with that center depth in 2019 but he took the selfish route and got his ass traded outta town.
@@matthewf8897 I’m sure they’ll be plenty of other people doing Seattle in NHL 21 later in the year. It was actually smart of Johnny to do it when he did because viewers aren’t over saturated.
Johnny I’ve been watching your videos since I was 8 I’m now 18. Still remember watching the first nhl 11 shootout commentary. Now that was Drunk Johnny 😂
Reilly at 8.75m is a bargain, and with his trade value and that dollar amount it will be easy to move him if he doesn't work out in the near future. Huge trade piece if you change your mind. Lock him up.
Keep monitoring Tavares’ potential. As soon as it drops, you should trade him immediately while his trade value is still sky high. You could acquire some very solid assets in return (even if it’s just a blue chip rookie who works with your coach’s lines), plus you’d save 11 million dollars on a declining player. Asset management!
Get a goalie, I think king henrik as a backup will be great. TRADE Muzzin, or brodie. If you wanna keep Morgan, one of them has to go. Also trade fogele, his value is really high and you can ship him off for some good assets, or send him in a package to upgrade a role. And trade korpisalo at deadline next year.
His trade value will be that for untill his contract i had Adam gaudette at a 82 overall and the trade value was the same i am pretty sure i trade adam gaudette and a first round pick for jack Hughes when he was at 27 years of age
Sorry i had that wrong i trade Adam for Rasmus ristolainen who is a 85+ overall i think and adam was 80 or 81 but two years down the road from that trade and now adam is a 79 lol
Loving the intro johnny, have faith in korpisalo look what khdubin did for Dallas this last year. in real life goalies are difficult to predict which may not be the case in NHL but you really have no money to get anyone better, so you just gotta bank on korpisalo going on one or two strong playoff runs. Realistically moving on from Reilly makes sense but if it were up to me try moving someone else to free up the space. Maybe like a John Tavares. There are plenty of c or w playmakers out there that hopefully fit on the second or first line. If you can get them low for long term like you did with foegel that would be nice. Also i think you should bring back the side storylines like we had for the Ottawa senators series back in the day.
Liljegren at 22 can still grow, probaby up to a mid 80s, but for 10, that's a bit much with the 3 you have rn. Maybe if he would go for 7.5-8 then you could make the case, but you can use some guys from the draft as Trade bate and pick up someone just as good who is proven (maybe) or trade for a good Defense Prospect with Lijengren. Id rather go for Gavrikov and look to pick up a guy named Noah King from the Stockton Heat or Koltrain Wilson also from there for the D. I know my WHL studs Jhonny, go Hitmen
The Morgan Rielly contract should be 7 years at a 9AAV... Something Montreal signed PK for... I think that is a fair comparison and a realistic deal for both parties... Forwards Foegele-Matthews-Marner Puljujarvi-Tavares-Nylander I think the bottom six is where you can be creative and reshape your roster the way you want to... Defence Rielly-Brodie Gavrikov-Bear Sandin-Liljegren Leaving Dermott and Muzzin "expendable" 3 Important FA suggestions Sign a solid 3rd line center Sign a depth defenceman Sign a fringe goalie to push Korpisalo and have a 1A and 1B
Adding on to the Rielly contract, after signing him to an extension, because he doesn't fit too well with the associate coaches system, you can look for a trade after 1 year (Something Montreal did with PK) and also if you plan on signing Sandin and Liljegren long term you will need to find a way to have cap space. I believe Korpi can be the goalie for the next while but it up to you on whether he should play out his contract year or lock him up long term. Personally, I think you should lock him up considering you gave up Freddy for him showing that you believe in Korpi...
Get a better goalie in free agency, and either cut or make Korpasslo your back up. Also probably give Reilly the contact extension. I would say for a 6 year contract instead of 8,.
For the defensive core, i think trading 1 of either brodie or muzzin would be best for the next season, not both. Muzzin would probably be better to trade just because he's a year older at 32 and a little more expensive, then run with reilly, bear, lilgegren, sandin, gravrikov, and brodie in whatever pairing suits best. Utilize the extra cap space for a year while you have it, then if you have to trade the more expensive, older brodie the next offseason to clear cap, just pick up picks that can be turned into prospects or trade deadline assets.
Also Play Reilly until he expires as UFA. 2 reasons: you wouldn't be able to make a realistic trade that would make your team and the other team better, also Reillys asking price could come down and if you could sign him at most 7.25 I'd say it's worth it!
John you should sign Reilly to at least a 6 year deal... think about it- you want this to be realistic right? Well would the Leafs really let Reilly go to free agency or trade him? No, I don’t see the Leafs ever letting Reilly go. Sign him long term, he is 88 overall now. Also, it looks to me like goalie stats do matter in NHL 21 so I would say go after a goalie in free agency.... Anderson is asking for 1 million less than he was asking for before you traded him so you could bring him back or you could go with someone else.
Okay so this will be a bit long winded and I apologize. First, scouting works (kinda) you need to go into your scouts at the beginning of the season, click on each amateur scout individually and you can set how long they scout for (eg. 1 week, 1 month ect.). You have to do this to each scout individually but they do actually scout the players that way. Second and finally, you can cheat the flawed lines mechanic regarding defensemen by going into roster moves and viewing D-man chemistry from there, they change depending on the system they're in (nhl or ahl) but will show you which pairing they are suited best on. Hope this helps man, much love from a long time viewer. Keep up the great work.
At the start of the next stream go through the player finder do goalie and go by potential chat is so sure there is a franchise goalie. At pick 17, no clue what pick 17 they mean because round one was a top 6 Center but yea.
It's obvious EA pushed this garbage out the door without checking how the scouting worked. It's like they focused on Be A Pro upgrades and adding the Trade Deadline day interactive features to the Franchise Mode. I DO like the idea of a Free Agent frenzy done similar to the Trade Deadline, but EA also needs to make the NHL Entry Draft part of this storyline. It would be nice to see a summary of the draft transactions and what players the traded draft picks from the season could have been if your team had kept the picks. There is a lot of room to make the Franchise Mode flow like an actual season in the NHL beyond just the gameplay.
I would say you need an absolute stud defensive defenceman like Volchenkov. Imo if you put any offensive dman beside him he would put up the same numbers as Jake Bean. After that you can save money by getting low 80’s defenceman in the bottom 4. I feel like depth matters more for offence then it does for defence in this game. Also, goalie stats matter MUCH more in NHL21, so I would say go after a good goalie too, preferably an older guy with a shorter term so you don’t get stuck with the contract. Don’t worry about the backup.
I’m assuming that Puljujarvi will grow like crazy in a few years if played correctly hence why he’s asking for a lot. That’s usually a good sign or at least in my experience in Chel with giving contracts out.
Trade system isn’t broken in the sense of trade value, foeggle is only gonna grow with an amazing contract, good example is Nate Mack, amazing contract when he was young and growing, imagine if Colorado was shopping him??? His trade value was already high, through on a cheap contract, it fly’s through the roof, so if anything the trade value is more realistic if anything
I would definitely consider signing rielly because he is far and away your best defensemen and does well in real-time sim. If you do keep him I would probably move nylander though so you don't have five huge contracts on the team.
TJ Brodie has ridiculous trade value and it's only going to diminish. I say package brodie and pulju plus maybe a pick for a stud defenseman who plays the right side. You can either look for an offensive dmsn to play with Muzzin or a two way or defensive dman to play along side Reilly. Some recommendations would be Ekblad, Dumba, OEL, Jones, Lindholm. Alternatively you could trade for a solid 2nd line sniper center to play between william nylander and foeg, and have the first line as Tavares, Matthews,Marner or have Tavares as 2nd line center and pick up a 1st like LW
I made the same moves you did in my franchise mode and the leafs won the cup and we’re the 3rd best team in the regular season, only difference is that I kept Anderson
Johnny you should try Football Manager, it’s soccer n I’ve no idea how u feel about that, but in terms of ‘franchise simulation’ games, it’s the ultimate
Have to move on from Muzzin, Brodie, and Korps to get an elite tendy to help out with the sim engine. I also suggest that you should dump the coach that has a grade C on the PK that tanked the lowest PK in the entire league. That PK has to be the number one priority to fix.
For Reilly, i wouldnt sign him for more than 9 Million. for your Goalie, if you are going to sign korp to a large contract, you might as well just trade him and sign freddy for the same price and 6 overall better. Sign Hall for a 1 year contract to fully stack that first line
this way, you can run marner, matthews, hall on yoru first line which is stacked, and have foegle, nylander and JT on the second for another stacked line if you have leftover money, just find some depth plugs
Johnny, you’re gonna give in-universe Steve Dangle an aneurism

Here for another yearly NHL GM mode! Been here since you did Vancouver and always love these vids
Still don’t know how Kadri got suspended a series for that cross check
Cause he was a repeat offender, he was the biggest difference maker in the 2019 series I firmly believe we would’ve got it done with that center depth in 2019 but he took the selfish route and got his ass traded outta town.
47:59 When Johnny skips over you at 180 in the draft for a beast that ate his corn as a child :(
Kyle palmari for the second or third line he’s a good player and comes up big in the playoffs he did it for New Jersey
Center ice goal. Jesus Christ. I hope to see a huge upgrade in net in the upcoming videos.
Johnny please do a stallions 2.0 down the track when this series comes to an end
He won’t do the same team twice, would be nice but I’d rather see other teams like the la kings or penguins.
But it would be way more realistic to do it at the end of this game so we know what a Seattle Kraken team would look like next year
I’d like to see him do the Winnipeg Jets. Never seen him do that team before
@@matthewf8897 I’m sure they’ll be plenty of other people doing Seattle in NHL 21 later in the year. It was actually smart of Johnny to do it when he did because viewers aren’t over saturated.
Johnny I’ve been watching your videos since I was 8 I’m now 18. Still remember watching the first nhl 11 shootout commentary. Now that was Drunk Johnny 😂
So according to this game Hossa, who is in the hall of fame retired in 2021 a year after he was inducted.
Reilly at 8.75m is a bargain, and with his trade value and that dollar amount it will be easy to move him if he doesn't work out in the near future. Huge trade piece if you change your mind. Lock him up.
these uploads coming so fast and they’re so long i can’t keep up
Kinda glad he lost so we’re actually trying to get somewhere in the series instead of just winning in the first year
Johnny “give me the fattest fuckin guy there is” superbman
Are we gonna see anyone "Kneel Before Zod?" I think the NHL should un-ban him.
When I watch you I feel like I'm listening to Steve Dangle, love the Die Hard Fandom in you.
Pick 17!?
What the hell? Marcus Johansson wants 9,75? He must have had one amazing year jesus
This game is just broken. Domi Rakell put up 65 Points he wanted 9.5 Million
I know my WHL studs Jhonny, go Hitmen
this draft was the funniest i have seen
The Morgan Rielly contract should be 7 years at a 9AAV... Something Montreal signed PK for... I think that is a fair comparison and a realistic deal for both parties...
Forwards
Foegele-Matthews-Marner
Puljujarvi-Tavares-Nylander
I think the bottom six is where you can be creative and reshape your roster the way you want to...
Defence
Rielly-Brodie
Gavrikov-Bear
Sandin-Liljegren
Leaving Dermott and Muzzin "expendable"
3 Important FA suggestions
Sign a solid 3rd line center
Sign a depth defenceman
Sign a fringe goalie to push Korpisalo and have a 1A and 1B
Adding on to the Rielly contract, after signing him to an extension, because he doesn't fit too well with the associate coaches system, you can look for a trade after 1 year (Something Montreal did with PK) and also if you plan on signing Sandin and Liljegren long term you will need to find a way to have cap space. I believe Korpi can be the goalie for the next while but it up to you on whether he should play out his contract year or lock him up long term. Personally, I think you should lock him up considering you gave up Freddy for him showing that you believe in Korpi...
Johnny's a little harsh on Dubas, it's not like he can let them sign an offer sheet and then get 3 20th-31st picks.
from the way the series went, i feel like the bruins just toyed with the leafs
I’m a Boston fan and I can just hearing my dad yelling about how they never call shit for Boston and we still win
Foegele had a 50 point year and gets assigned to the 4th line in the playoffs lmao
Also Play Reilly until he expires as UFA. 2 reasons: you wouldn't be able to make a realistic trade that would make your team and the other team better, also Reillys asking price could come down and if you could sign him at most 7.25 I'd say it's worth it!
That Ottawa trade was a complete waste of assets if you won't even retain at least one of the rentals.
I knew tht 4th line switch in overtime in the defensive zone would bite him
Okay so this will be a bit long winded and I apologize.
At this point you should put scratched defenseman on the first forward line if you might get the Bruins in the first round. Tank for a worse opponent
Who agrees that the intro is sick
Foegele’s trade value is so high because his contract is so good
I would say you need an absolute stud defensive defenceman like Volchenkov.
Keith yandles brother is my hokey coach and I’m from Boston 😂
“Holly fuck-a-doodle-doo Batman”
Can we talk about how Tatar was asking for 10mil a season LOL
Trade system isn’t broken in the sense of trade value, foeggle is only gonna grow with an amazing contract, good example is Nate Mack, amazing contract when he was young and growing, imagine if Colorado was shopping him??? His trade value was already high, through on a cheap contract, it fly’s through the roof, so if anything the trade value is more realistic if anything
I would definitely consider signing rielly because he is far and away your best defensemen and does well in real-time sim. If you do keep him I would probably move nylander though so you don't have five huge contracts on the team.
I won it all year 1. 81-82 goalies is all you need. Beat Boston in 7. Won cup 4-1 vs preds
I've been bamboozled. I thought you had a deep run lol
"I'm Irish. We're stubborn."
What’s the timestamp
@@nolanplyley it's in the opening scene of the video. Brian Burke says it.
@@niallmonaghan1948 thanks, I kept wondering why I didn’t hear Johnny say it
Reilly 6 x 8.75 keep Muzzin and Brodie for this season then trade at draft or free agency next year
I’d start putting the right handed shot defender on the right side, left handed on the left. You play them opposite sides at times.
Bruins defeat the Maple Leafs in the first round of the playoffs. All is right in the universe.
Greatest intro of all time
TJ Brodie has ridiculous trade value and it's only going to diminish.
Where is the Red Light district in Toronto? Behind Korpisalo !
This series is so confusing, you fired your coach, hired a new coach made trades for who works with that coach,
Rehired your previous coach
Sign Hall for a 1 year contract to fully stack that first line
this way, you can run marner, matthews, hall on yoru first line which is stacked, and have foegle, nylander and JT on the second for another stacked line
if you have leftover money, just find some depth plugs
