And a diesel generator to charge it on site.

Will be interesting when they figure out to use electric actuators... They already do that on modern 6-axis flight sims....They never leak :-)
Should be a no brainer for the belt drives. An electric motor should be much cheaper than a hydraulic one. And they could even stick one of the batteries in the bottom, so they can replace the swivel joint with a small electric slipring. Or even make it wireless....

How would you charge it up on site?, if you say a diesel generator then not only are you buying a quarter of a million dollar excavator but now you have also to buy a $20.000 generator AND the expense of transporting it.., you see where this is going?

Obviously only makes sense, if you can charge it from the grid during night and maybe lunch.... But look behind the machine in this clip. ta da.... a generator...

He quotes "264 kw hrs" So if you're going to charge that up with a 50kva generator (which is a pretty huge beast) it would still take you over 5 hours to charge. For all practical purposes this means you're only going to be able to use the machine for a few hours per day. That's no way to run an owner/operator business.
