Sir I hv done 10+2 from Maths.. And BA ECONOMICS AND MA Economics... I want to do MA STATISTICS.. bt most of the institutions require graduation in statistics as eligibility. (1) Is there any institution which does not require such eligibility? (2) If not then how is the course Post Graduate diploma in applied statistics from IGNOU..? KINDLY REPLY URGENTLY.
Lord! finally I get to see someone who wants to pursue statistics and has the same concerns. Few opinions that I would like put down which I have acquired through researching on my way here. Starting with IGNOU and their PGDSAT its a long distance programme, it can't stand upto the full fledged on campus ISI tezpur's 1 yr PD in statistical methods simply because of the curriculum being so advance and on top of that ISI' s teaching and brand, start by checking if you are eligible for this programme even ISI guidelines for eligiblity are confusing atleast for this one for eg they sometimes mention graduation in any discipline with mathematics/statistics as a subject now how many papers through out bachelors or is it just one , they have not mentioned specifically so you are left with either contacting them if you qualify or not what if they say you dont just because there were not many papers of mathematics/statistics in your bachelors in this case IGNOU' s PGDSAT comes into picture you can persue that its cost as well as time effective and one does not have to leave his current job once completed they should qualify you as now you have enough papers rather a fully diploma which will act as a strong foundation. As far as tezpurs PD is concern I think BA in economics does qualify and once you complete it you do become eligible for their Flagship M stat programme without having bachelors in statistics. For not being a statistics Grad you will have to go throug a diploma first there is no way out for that but it can be thought differently by seeing it as creating a strong foundation for further masters studies. Something which is not related to the question but the Indian education system should provide a more liberal approach for one to take up masters in a field which one might not have a bachleors in , I understand their concern about one' s foundation in that discipline but that can be eliminated by adding in multiple coursework at the beginning and also testing it by examinations.
