  • WE WERE FORTUNATE ENOUGH TO HAVE A GOOD FRIEND OUR OURS...MR C.E. SMITH, GIVE US THIS 1965 IH LOAD STAR 1700. WE TALKED ABOUT THE TRUCK AND MY INTENTIONS ON THE PHONE. HE WOULDNT TELL ME WANT HE WANT FOR IT...HE JUST SAID "COME AND LOOK AT IT AND WE WILL FIGURE IT OUT". I HAD NO IDEA THAT HE WAS GOING TO BE SO GENEROUS! THANKS TO C.E., HIS WIFE AND HIS SON FOR TREATING US LIKE OLD FRIENDS!

    Thanks JC for all the nice things you said about my family. That truck just wasn't safe haul what I needed to, I certainly didn't want to put one of the boys in it an get hurt. On the other hand it's in to good of shape to scrap, the motor always ran like a top. I thought maybe I would build something but I never have any extra time and if sat there another year it would be scrap so have at it good luck and God bless

      and there he is folks! C E SMITH! it would have broke my heart to see it get scrapped. it has just the right amount of character to make what i want to do look really good! as soon as i finish brandon's rear differential...i will start the very delicate disassembly. i hope this project brings you as much enjoyment as it will me! thanks again my friend! let the videos begin!

    Those old loadstar are sweet looking trucks. International makes really nice trucks and are my favorites, especially the Transtar and Emeryville cabovers.

    53 years old, parked up for who knows how long and it still starts better than a lot of much newer vehicles. That's one sweet engine for an old truck...

    I had a 65 1700 and ran it for 20 years. It was a damn good truck. My truck had an 18500 pounds rear end. this one has a 17000 rear with a 7000 front axle I would say it has a 345. I use the 392 after the 345 gave up.

    I have had one of these around the farm for like 20 years with a dump box and haven’t used it in years and currently cutting it up to make a dump trailer but saving the cab and clip to hopefully put on a newer 1 ton chassis for a project

    I’d say that taking the carb off and cleaning it would really help. The cabs on those old IHs were really beefy and I loved them and the hoods and grills. 😃 I have a friend that has a couple of these old IHs...you’ll have to let me know if you’re interested in checking them out. Have FUN!😎

  • @thxfornothin1

    I always loved the old cornbinders. Even 50 years on that little 345 sounded like it still had life left in it. Now I know I heard "Cummins" and "rat rod" in there but a 6V92 with an Allison would be quicker (they're often used in big rig racing.) Just saying.
    Overall a great project and an excellent deal. A genuine cornfield Corvette.

    • @j.c.smithprojects
      @j.c.smithprojects  6 років тому +1

      this is to be a functional daily use truck when its done. i want the cummins for mpg, hp, torque and overal reliability...plus i can fix it! i want a manual trans for the reliability and the better gear ratio spread...what i have in mind will be a very long project that is for sure!

  • @morgansword

    I got the 1800 with 392, 5 speed, 3 speed watson brownie that I pulled with a quickness, two speed rear, twenty four foot steel bed with tail spool, twin cylinder three stage hoist, and power everything plus micro lock, and here's the best part.... one wheel brake and the other three drums were missing! That brake would just warm the drum up if you moved it but it would hold the truck on flat ground. Now the emergency was on the drive line and it did hold... story was that they actually tried to drive it that way and took out one drive line but I had problems with the other two drive lines. Oh and the twenty thousand pd. winch was mounted between the frame rails, a shallow drum. It went to a block mounted to the last cross member that was braced from hell and the line went over a roll in the front of the bed to another roll that let the line out the back. I really don't know why but I think that was the only way to get the line onto the bed. And the hood was glass tilt made in anchorage at some shop. I did fix the truck and then was going to lose it in the deal so gave it to my grandson who still has it. thieves have been picking at it for the radiator and some of the tires but that was one fun truck

    I m sure you know what you're doing and what you want for the truck. I know you're busy and from what I saw on the video those fenders are toast. I m guessing they made that body style many year so maybe it wouldn't be too hard to find good one and besides it would save you time and give something better to work with . Hey i am actually about to buy a 1971 loadstar 1600 that I am going to do a similar project with, i'll try to make it short but my dad had a 1971 international just like this one and i want to do a build to honor him since he's passed away, and i found one in a town an hour and a half away, got an engine for it almost rebuilt (sbc 350) i have a T5 world class manual i am going to rebuild for it, 2003 dodge durango complete rearend for it (12 bolt 9 3/4 ring gear, 3.55 gears, sway bar and disc brakes), (going to get the front end part with K member and steering rack and all that next week too for it) then i'm gonna strip it down to cab hood, fenders and frame, bring it down to about 6 inches off the ground and make a street truck toy out of it :) , keep me updated on your progress.

      Not really. Any Loadstar up til 75 the fenders will fit (but the fenders from a Loadstar school bus are shorter in the rear, so you would have no place to mount the step). 75-80 International did away with the butterfly hood and came out with the tilt hood (will fit any Loadstar, but the grille, fenders, and hood will have to go, and hinges would have to be installed on the frame).
