In all my visits to Kruger I have only had one proper siting of a lion. It would have been woderful to come across one on the road! Thanks again.

Loved it! It's like I'm driving myself in Kruger when watching this. I'm a looong way from "home", so this is a blessing. Thank you!

@@graemecumming I grew up in the Lowveld, Nelspruit area. So I saw lots of Kruger!

Thanks for a great episode. It keeps the Kruger talk going for 2 Aussie work colleagues who unfortunately cannot travel at the moment. Look forward to the next one!

Another great episode, I especially enjoyed the hyena den. 👍👍. I’m afraid it does look like that first hyena has a snare or has the scar from one, would be curious if you thought so. Looking forward to Satara 😀

Thanks Joe. Rewatching the video, I can see what you are picking up on. As I said to Mickey, we didn’t see anything whilst driving next to her and we were with a ranger on that drive. Perhaps a previous incident as you say - but she was very happy and healthy and I’m almost certain, was walking back to the den that you see at the end as this was only about a kilometer away from where we later see the cubs.

Nice video. Did the Hyena at the beginning have a snare around its neck ? The area around Pretoriuskop is unfortunately often intruded by poachers

Hey Mickey - I don’t think so, no. We spent quite a bit of time with her. I can see why you ask though. She has a piece of grass on her neck and I think the dark markings probably look like something is around the neck, close to her head. We were with a game ranger on this particular drive and watched her a long time. In fact, she was quite close to the den that you see later in the video and very likely was one of the adults looking after those cubs.

But yes you are right about the area and the poaching close to this area. Episode 5 next week talks about this exact point.

@@graemecumming That's good. We had a lion with a snare around his neck next to sunset dam 2018 and it was heartbreaking. We saw so many animals and rhinos 2009/2010 around Pretoriuskop and now they are all gone :-(

@@2010Krueger sorry to hear that…it is heartbreaking for sure. I’ve read a bit about Lion snaring and have learnt that they are incredibly resilient and will often be able to chew away (wire) snares and recover quite quickly from the wounds. Obviously not all of them are that lucky though. Very sad.
