Actually the founder of Wingchun was 5 Masters at the Shaolin Temple of time, one of which was Ng Mui, they were creating a new style that would be more effective and learned quicker to combat the fighters the government was hiring st the time. One of the Masters Bak Mei (White eyebrows) aka Pai Mei tipped off the government and thus the Shaolin temple was burned down. The Masters escaped including Ng Mui and in her travels she met the girl Wingchun and passed the teachings onto her.

"Wing Tsun" is the romanization trademarked by Leung Ting for his wingchun school branch.

No, Duncan Leung is not one of them. He was taught the modified system. There are about 2 or 3 left, one being Grandmaster William Cheung who knows the whole system, including proper footwork, and proper way to close the distance as well. There are a couple left in Thailand as well.

From what I was taught, Grandmaster Yip Man had many students who learned various amounts from him. He only had 6 private Bai Si (formally sworn in) disciples. Sifu Duncan Leung was in fact one of them. Sifu Allan Che Kong Lee, the 6th and last disciple of Yip Man, was another. He was also teaching until he passed away in 2016.

I am reading the comments for a half an hour now... And i cant take it anymore.
I am a certified Wing Chun instructor (WWCA, Sifu William Cheung's origin). I was lucky enough to personally met and train under the Grandmaster and Ip Man's nephew Lo Man Kam. I am practiceing martial arts, since i am old enough to travel on the bus alone. I did learn 16 different approch of martial arts, including the hardest ones, like Muay Thai and even real soft ones like Thai Chi. I was competing in full contact heavy weight championships for six years, and i was able to win and defend champion titles. I am teaching WC, JKD, and Escrima for 13 years now, i even have students of my own with country and continental champion titles. I only say all these so if somebody reads this, the you will know where i am coming from.
About Mr. Leung Ting... He is not a grandmaster of anything. Never reached high enough rank in any style to even be considered to be an istructor. I heard all kind of stories (from Lo Man Kam, who is actually the part of Ip Man,s family) about him, but i am not bothering even spreading them. He is a business man nothing more. Common sense: just take a look at his students in the video. Is the first thing what is coming to your mind is an athlete? Somebody who trains regulary? Are the movements feel well practiced? You can answer these questions without any martial arts experience... Wing Chun is supposed to be a so called "inner-style" martial arts, so nobody going to be looking like a wrestler, but that is not mean you not supposed to train your body.
About Sifu Cheung Cheuk Hing (William Cheung). As far as i know he is still holding a few world records, including the fastest fully extended punch and the most fully extended punch under 1 minute. He personally helped developened a trainig system for american special forces deep scouting units (and those guys are not fucking around). I was lucky enough to be his "dummy" for a demonstration and he actually give me premission to attack him. (dont forget we talking about a thin, short, chinese guy with a wierd smile on his face and even his back was bended by old age, i think he was around 62 years old back then). I was alredy competing in full contact heavy weight kick-boxing and even MMA for 3 years. I was not even able to estabilish contact with him. We not talking about strikes, or blocks or grabs... I could not touch his jacket. And trust me i was not holding back out of respect or something... So yeah... dont talk shit about a martial grand master unit you actually met one.
About this whole MMA vs Martial arts madness...
This is a completly usless debate. MMA is more like a chess game. Everyone knows the moves, everyone knows the rules, everyone preparing for the same thing. If you are prepared better, you probably going to win. End of story. Martial Arts is NOT a sport. There are no rules, and there are no preparation, and trust me you will not know all the moves. I always loved when a MMA fighter came to my class asking me to prove "my worth" so he can deside is it usfull for him or not. Most of the time i just send these pricks away, but sometimes i used them for a little demonstration in the class. For you sport-fighters out there: Imagine the next: You start a fight. You slowly stealing the distance so you can try someyhing. You maybe trow a few "checking-jabs", just to see what will happen. And as you extend your arm the very first time you got elbow locked, or elbow broken and you did not even see how. I know it is worth shit in writing, hard to imagine. Here is a more easier example: Soon as you look at me the way i know it is going to be a fight, i spit you in the eyes, kick you in the balls and hook-lock your knees in the same time. Block that MMA genius. Sorry, but i felt i need to make my point "ego-proof". Do you getting the picture now?
About the worth of Wing Chun...
I tried a lot of different styles. I was even really good in a few of them. But none of them tought me to be as efficient as WC. The main principles and the theories are opened a whole new world for me. If you never practiced WC under a good teacher (and here is the real problem... Good WC teachers are very, VERY rare) you will never understand this statement. Once you know a little something about WC's "6 gate principle" or the estabishing center line, and re-estabilishing center line idea you will never going to have problems with blocking agian. I always loved the face expression on students when they first have they fight blind-folded. That is the moment when you never fear a fight again. Do i fight like a tipical WC fighter if somebody jumps on me on the street? NO. Wing Chun is the perfect guidence. It is like learn reading before buying a book. If you wanna be a fighter you will have to branch out eventually. But the traditional principles (what i was only able to get from WC) are shortening 10 years of practice into a great summer. You dont know proper blocking untill you learned a bit of WC, and you never have so good reflexes wich cant made better with Wing Chun. Do you know the ending in the Matrix movie? When Neo finally gets it? And he is blocking everything with one hand, and Mr Smith getting fucked in the ass? In the real life it is called "Falling Tree Leaf". And it is works on MMA dudes. Trust me, i know.

And I could understood WC from the very first time I had tried it as young boy but never could continue to really train. I wished I would have been able now but my body is broken a bit and I cant help my self. Hence I am a spirit dancer an when in trance you can see the Bushido in its perfection. But as told I never learned technics and fighting, unfortunate, because I got hurt lot since I cant stand injustice and had to stand up always against. Thank you again for your great story I really enjoyed it! There are lot of lunatics and ignorants out there, who easily can denythat is infront of their very eyes. For example Bruce Lees demonstrations of explosive energy with his high skilled martial art. Chuck Norris and him like individuals ar a shame for the truthfull ones. Therefore it is good tobe traiend do one can stand for Truth, protect one self an the beloveds from culprits. Thank you =

A student asked him about Kiai and Chi Quong deadly techniques and he like a puppet master started controlling the body of a student and throwing invisible punches from afar and the "victim" was knocked to the floor...It took a minute for us to realise that the joke was on us, and he had a bit of fun on our expanse. :) He of course told us that those "deadly" techniques are just cons for money.

Martial arts for my self, is very powerful. There is no better than the other .It is a language spoken through tradition and all forms and must be respected that way. In the world, we feel one language is better than another, and we want to learn all languages so we may speak. But when we speak it is all mumbled.Because,we speak without understanding the meaning of the words, yet it is the same language. All must learn to speak, and understand. But language is recognised through expression of its intended emotion.
For myself, realizing this brings forth great humility for my brothers in arms, and humility to the true masters of all forms for whom I bow down respectfully for keeping the integrity of your language ,for i can learn many ,but only understand a few.

Actually, he is NOT the last student of Yip Man to say the truth he never was a student of Yip Man!
There was a press conference after Yip Man's death by a couple of real Yip Man students such as Wong Shun Leung Lok Yiu etc.
And there was this book he gave to my Sifu which he signed with Thank you something and then Si Sok Wang Kiu. Mind you here there is not written Si Hing but Si Sok which means younger Kung Fu uncle because Wang Kiu was the Si Dai of Leung Ting's sifu Lun Shun who was also an original student of Yip Man. Now, I am not saying he can't do any Wing Chun I leave that up to others just he is not and never has been a student of Yip Man. Does it matter that totally depends on what way you look at it. Personally, I think somebody who is using his/her own name to be set out there and succeeds is better than the one using somebody else's name but that is just me.
The story of Ng Mui was written in the 1950s as a promotional story by a student of Yip Man who worked at a newspaper it is a promotional story, not a real story. The truth the matter is Yim Wing Chun if there ever was a girl named like that she surely did not do any Wing Chun lol.
You can trace that back all the way into China's Wing Chun lineages who should all have the same founder, right?
If you look at Ng Mui her Kung Fu does it strike any similarity with Wing Chun? No, it doesn't is that not really odd then?
Wing Chun comes from the "Wing Chun Hall" in Shaolin where people refined there kung fu and took out all the unnecessary things to make something more practical. The Nun who was teaching in there did make tofu though but she was not Ng Miu.
So yes there are some truths in the Ng Mui - Yim Wing Chun stories like the tofu thing and the fact it was probably founded by a nun or taught by the nun from the Wing Chun Hall in Shaolin. The tofu is also important in our system it got to do without punches but that is a whole different story.
Now always remember even if a somebody is a good fighter he might not be able to do some good teaching as well.

Right. He NEVER trained with Ip Man because he started in the middle 1960's and by that time Ip Man was too sick to teach from cancer and he was addicted to opium for the pain. He (Leung Ting) was taught by a student of a student and only learned about half the system. Right again. Ng Mui NEVER existed and neither did Wing Chun. It was actually a rouse to keep the Manchurian government off the backs of the monks in the temple while they trained to overthrow the government and develop wing chun, which was developed by the five elders and includes white eyebrow, white crane, choy li fut, hung gar and shaolin.

You MUST have a deep understanding of the system to teach it in a way a rank beginner can understand.

    • @mightymeatmonsta
      @mightymeatmonsta 5 років тому +1

Right. Ng Mui and Yim Wing Chun never existed! There are records that date back that far, and their names aren't on them. It was just a rouse to pull the Manchurian government off the trail of the Shaolin temple, while, as you so aptly said, they trained and developed the new system, wing chun. Wing chun was developed by the five elders of the Shaolin Temple. There were five systems that were used to develop wing chun. They are white eyebrow, white crane (hence the story of the crane and snake), hung gar, Choy li fut (it wasn't called that at the time, but was a variation of it), and Shaolin.Tofu????? No, there is no tofu in our system. Maybe toe jam when you stub your toe! Wrong! A good fighter and teacher SHOULD know the complete system, and inner workings, and have a deep understanding, being able to explain it in a way even a rank beginner can understand. That is the ONLY way to pass on the entire system! This has been a problem over the centuries. Some of the more important aspects of wing chun were lost along the way when modified was developed by Leung Bik Chan Wah-Shun was being taught by Leung Bik. Since he was NOT a family member, he was not privy to the entire system. He would spy on Leung Bik, trying to learn the entire system, which included the PROPER footwork (circle inside the triangle). Leung Bik knew of this and changed certain aspects of the system. He changed the stance from 50/50 to the crappy 70/30 (which pushes your energy backward, not forward, as it should!), changed the footwork to LINEAR instead angled (said circle in the triangle), and entry techniques as well as leaving out certain other important aspects of the traditional system. This is where the whole trouble started. You see, Chan Wah-Shun was taller and heavier than most Chinese, so he was able to use the modified system successfully, which means he taught others this system, without all the components, making it less effective against boxers and grapplers (due to the crappy stance and linear movement, which keeps them directly in front of the opponent, which is very dangerous!). This is why learning the WHOLE system in traditional wing chun is best. It works much better against ALL systems, and not just some.

Yes, it was proven it was a myth and she and Ng Mui never existed. There is a BIG difference between traditional, which works, and modified, which does not. This is because modified is missing key elements found only in traditional like proper footwork, proper way to close the distance and the ten concepts, which make traditional work properly and completely. It also has grappling and other elements like pressure point training as well.

For example, boxing does not have kicks, grappling, or train weapons or multiple opponents. Sports application martial arts were designed for the ring and limited applications. The real applications and scenarios have been taken out. Real street martial arts were made to be used in a deadlier street, and have no boundaries on their use, so they are made to end a fight quickly and deal with real scenarios.

At the end I sparred with them, but I used general stand up mma / kickboxing. Whooped em all easily apart from the girl teacher who was hard as nails. After that I couldn't in good conscience continue studying there let alone teach it though I massively enjoyed my time there and they were a great bunch of guys.

mightymeatmonsta compared to WC practitioners boxers, mma fighters, jiu jitsu, wrestler, Muay Thai, judo, etc. that actually SPAR against a force that’s resistance against them will be more prepared to fight IRL than WC since they for the most part mainly train through choreographed fighting allowing them self to get hit like a dummy.

THE PROBLEM : Even if Leung Ting, William Cheung, etc did not study directly with Ip Man much or if they had not learned all the Wing Chun system when Ip Man passed = they are NEVER EVER going to admit that for obvious reasons.

LMAO!!! Leung Ting is the MOST HATED Wing Chun master in the world and a known liar. He never studied under Ip Man....
Everyone just look up Leung Ting on online and you'll see what I mean.....
(During Ip-man's funeral students all wear armbands showing what rank and generation they belong to within the Wing Chun community and Leung Tings armband shows he was a "Junior student not a direct Ip-man disciple)

      Absolutely right.
Leung Ting was never a direct student. I've seen the photo. More importantly, I happen to know descendants of legitimate WC masters and they say what you have.
Its my understanding that Leung Ting does not even know the full curriculum. Very few did as most people in Hong Kong were poor and could not afford to pay.
So Ip Man taught the forms(eg siu nim tao), chi sao exercises and tactics that overly rely on chain punching to those students who could not afford to pay the full price of complete training.
There are masters who come from Ip Man who know the full curriculum and more importantly were taught the THE PROPER APPLICATIONS.
Leung Ting is not one of them. He learned from students of students of Ip Man.

If you want to fight in the streets go train boxing or muay thai.
1 year of boxing >= 5 years von WT and the WT guy will still get the crap beaten out of him.

In a true fight you will have a couple of broken limbs nearly instantly. These martial arts are mainly for show in the modern world due to the lack of need for lethal martial arts. Boxing and MMA are sports, not ment to seriously cripple your opponent. Same with competitive Muay Thai, now actual muay thai is a different story as its one of the most lethal martial arts around, but it was also entirely designed around killing your opponent.

    • @mightymeatmonsta
      @mightymeatmonsta 6 років тому +1

No, you are wrong, like the rest of them. Wing chun is a street defense system and boxing and mma are just sports and are incomplete for the streets.Muay thai is a joke too, and is also a sport. It is also incomplete. Traditional wing chun is complete and has all the aspects needed for the streets, unlike the rest of them, which don't.
