  • The KEF LS50 was first launched to celebrate KEF's 50th anniversary. It took a little bit of inspiration from the super niche KEF Blade but came in a significantly smaller form with an unbelievable sound from such a small foot print. It's managed to impress many listeners making it a very popular speaker over time. Considering its somewhat of an evolution from the LS3/5A, its certainly better looking, but I'd have to get my hands on the LS3/5A to know for certain how different they sound from one another.

    Hi Paul, Are there any other speakers in the same price point as these KEF LS50 or LS50 Meta which you would say is better than these LS50 or LS50 Meta? TIA.

      Hi Richard. I remember hearing a few Polk Audio bookshelf speakers as well as a few towers before deciding to go for the LS50. They were pretty good sounding, but I did have a soft spot for how the Kefs sounded. I've heard some Yamaha bookshelves recently that surprised me, but they're a lot more expensive than the LS50. They make some good Hi-Fi stuff too.

    I know this feelings very well!
    One special was before the purchasing of my Yamaha DSP-A1 in 1999 or so.
    I had several months to save money to effort this expensive peace of tec. When this thing was in my house at the end I was a very happy man!
    I could tell more of this story's.😊

      Would you happen to still be using it, or has it been retired by you? They've always made terrific hardware.

      @@PaulsPOV Over the 20 years of ownership appearing some issues with this DSP. The display has some pixel problems and the DSP PCB was also in trouble. A problem what I try to fix with a repair at a Yamaha service point but sadly there wasn't no longer spare parts available. I sold the DSP for 250€ and was looking for a replacement. My new one is a Cambridge Audio CXR 120. Very good sounding Receiver with a network streamer inside.

      Oh, that's really sad. But 20 years of service is fantastic! I'm using an old Denon receiver, which is just a little over 20 years old now. I'm considering looking at a Yamaha receiver if or when this gives up. I've come to like Cambridge audio products. I've heard the DAC Magic Plus and the CXC CD transport. Its always an experience listening to music when it's coming through their hardware.

      One of my absolute favorites has been the HD700 for years. I quite like the way they tune their headphones. I've spent a little time with their HD 660S2 and found them to be quite impressive. I'm trying to get my hands on it for review.

    Hey Paul, great work. I need a suggestion about speakers. I am a musician and I want to have a speaker which will be good for TV and for guitar as well. Can you suggest any budget speakers?

    • @PaulsPOV
      @PaulsPOV  Рік тому

      Consider looking at some speaker monitors. I used some great sounding Samson monitors some years ago. I believe Adam makes some really good stuff now, and if you have Genelec budget, you won't regret them. But ideally, you'll need to look at active speakers for your use.

      I haven't reviewed the KZ EDX Pro so I'm not quite sure how it'll stand up to IEMs in the 2k range. But of the few I've tested, the ones I really like are the Truthear Hola, Tangzu Wan'er, Salnotes Zero and KZ ZSN Pro X. All of them have slightly different flavours in sound, so feel free to watch my reviews on them to have a better idea about their tuning.

    Hi Paul, grt video!
    I'm too contemplating to buy a speaker setup, for my music and also movie(ott) needs.
    Confused btwn:
    1. Yamaha RS202 + Q acoustics 3020i + Sub
    2. Q acoustics M20 active speakers + Sub
    Would love to hear your suggestion about these 2 setups or anything else that you would recommend.

    • @PaulsPOV
      @PaulsPOV  10 місяців тому

      The Yamaha + Q Acoustics should be a good pairing. I would've recommended the Kef Q150 but just saw that it's ridiculously priced compared to what it uses to be.
      But considering you're looking at an active setup, active setups are no nonsense, one-stop shop setups if you don't want to fiddle. They usually have the best DAC/Amp pairings than what you can get in a mixing and matching setting. I myself love the mixing and matching since you can dial in color from different bit of hardware, but it can take years to find a sound you'll like.
      The active setup might be the safer bet!

      Awesome! Thank you so much for your suggestion Paul 👍

      I'm sure the Qacoustics will be great...but ELAC, I fell madly in love with how they sounded years ago. See if you can demo them before buying.

      Hey Paul, finally bought the Q acoustics M20 + Edifier T5 subwoofer. They sound really good :)
      Can u suggest any tracks/albums that have a good soundstage?

    • @PaulsPOV
      @PaulsPOV  8 місяців тому

      One of my goto tracks for a quick stage check has always been Journey's Faithfully. At the 1min 25 sec mark, the drums should give you a good sense of having vertical and horizontal stage, provided you're not listening to a compressed version of the track. Otherwise I goto anything jazz or classical. There are some superbly mixed tracks in these genres.

      I haven't reviewed any speakers in that range, but I did buy one small one to use in the bathroom many years ago. I can't remember what brand it was. It may have been a boat, but I could be wrong. I only bought it because it had an IP rating, and I wanted music there. Needless to say, I don't have it anymore.
