Good to see this stuff starting to make its way into the aftermarket. GPS derived speed is problematic at high rates (50hz) and at high accuracy rates such as 10hz it's not fast enough to be useful. The correct answer here is an inertial navigation sensor that uses sensor fusion (mag/Accel/gyro/GPS) to derive very high speed data (500hz) both in body frame (xyz) and globe frame (LLA). It will also provide lateral velocity data for cornering traction control. Hoping to have a product later this year.
Always baffles me how this channel doesn't have more subscribers. There is always great knowledge passed on and the content is always entertaining. Appreciate your work.
Syvecs/Life Racing have been the reference for Motorsport traction and have been doing similar for years….mapping on slip v yaw / lateral g / speed. Recursive decay algorithm is key for smooth power. 12 traction maps all mappable against practically anything with variable gain, recursive decay and slip map adders. Gps track marker can change settings per track. 100hz GPS for ground / radar etc. I run these and the best thing about them is the traction system. It’s good that motec are doing the same.

Very cool, I feel like the GPS might be a bit hit or miss. Surprised they haven't implemented a laser speed sensor or something, not really sure what's available but surely that would be a more accurate way of getting an actual speed into the motec
Check out Andy Forrest talk about his AWD traction control system on his old 1500HP wrx WTAC. He uses GPS in combination with known change in speed for each wheel. If it exceeded the known ramp speed increase along with the GPS slowing it would know to begin its magic. It worked well for him. Amazing car

They mentioned any Motecs sold by Powertune will come with their custom traction management strategy built into the firmware. Haltech is capable of the same strategy on some Elites (1500 & 2500) and Nexus, it's a matter of the time and knowledge to set it all up.
