Played Birkdale once, 1987, immediately became my favourite course ( live in Melbourne AU. so I know all the great sandbelt courses there) Didn’t think it was a hard course off the mens tees. Then I noticed the back tees up in the dunes.
As a steward on the 8th I can assure you the weather was as bad as it gets on Thursday morning.....even had a chat with a Japanese fella, wanted to know why we have this great championship in the winter time 😂😂
Yeah, Greg's story at the time was even bigger because he would have been by far the oldest major winner. He showed it was possible, so Tom Watson's wasn't as amazing. I think they were just a year apart.
@@tomdallas3690 Tom Watson's would have been much much bigger. That would have been his 6th open! And he's 6 years older than Greg. In my opinion is Greg and Tom both won, people would already have forgotten about gregs
@@richlewis1879 Greg showed it could be done the year before, so it isn't as huge a deal. Of course, people would have made it a bigger deal than it was. Greg's was huge. They both choked. Weasels.
Harrington's 2nd shot on the 17th on Sunday is one of the great shots in the history of the Majors.
Narrators tone and inflection sounds more like something you'd hear on a war documentary.
Padre Harrington won three majors in 2 years and cemented himself in golf history
PADRAIG.

You had to mention the "L" word.
Shame on you. Lol.
6:10 Steven Reid was captain of Royal Lytham in 1996 when it was played there. He handed the trophy to Tom Lehman.

This announcer's voice significantly lowered my blood pressure.
I feel like we're about to watch something very tragic
Greg norman what a player
What a weekend for Padraig!🇲🇽
Is he Mexican? 😂
So pure
Back when fans could watch live on the BBC. Such a shame.
Back-to-back years 50 somethings could have won the Open

9:10mins - looks like someone lost their samurai sword…
Oh yes….well spotted!!!!…🤔😂😂👍
28:52....majestic.
Jared Harris, I believe is the narrator. It took me 20 minutes to place it, Professor Moriarty .
I’m pretty sure it’s Don Warrington. He did lots of voiceover work for the BBC. Most well known as the black guy in Rising Damp.
It’s weird seeing a golfer where a football hat. Ben Curtis 20:57
What was the name of the person that announced his win at the end Does anyone know ?
The biggest shock was that we have to import 22 tons of chips from Holland.
Why isn’t the 2009 film on UA-cam?
This narrator has the same tone as the guy from the Cat In The Hat cartoon movie
19:35 China.........🤔
Graham McDowell's swing looks like he's going to hit a duck hook every time
Because of what Tom Watson did a few years later, people forget about how close Greg was
