I'll still be around and will stream non-PoE stuff but I'm done with Path of Exile personally for the foreseeable future. I'm cooking other things that I'm VERY excited about but I thought I should let everyone know where I'm at with PoE content as that's all this channel as been about for 4 years now.

Best of luck. Get 100% where you are coming from I am a few years older than you and feel exactly the same. Content creation space is also too full of click baity crap at the moment and POE 2 is a few years away from being grindable. I am a part time Andy creator anyway so not really an issue for me, but it is getting harder to be motivated to make content when I get home from my day job when there is so much other stuff to be doing! Good luck with the Japanese I am learning Spanish in my downtime now instead of gaming

Carpe diem brother!! Definitely chase your dreams and don't live a life that you'll end up regretting. I too did content creation for a while but it was never a full-time thing. And I decided early on that I wouldn't cover just one game. It would have driven me insane. Yes, I can focus on a single game for a few months at a time, but to do just one game day in and day out, week after week, month after month? Pure torture! I ended up taking a full-time job again last fall making way more money than content creation, and it's surprisingly an amazing combination of what I learned as a content creator and what I used to do professionally before I started making videos. Might go back to content creation in retirement (I'm a few years older than you), but I'm pretty happy with what I'm doing, and that's all that matters!
Excited to see what you end up doing - I would love to visit Japan someday!

I've been an R developer for 12 years now. I still remember the early days of RStudio and when it eventually started to feel mandatory for R users to code in it. I always loved you for PoE, but there was so much more to you as a presence in the community than that. You easily became my go-to after I learned you were involved in developing the ui/ux for RStudio, just for that fact alone. Came to you for PoE, stayed for non-PoE reasons. A decision like this is daunting, but I think you're in a good spot :) Take all the time you need to breathe and recalibrate, and then I'm looking forward to whatever you put out next!

I completely agree with you about playing the same game, for years, because I'm also not a one-game kinda person either. I think you kinda hit the point that most content creators do anyways. Props to you to making the decision that you want to focus on projects that you enjoy yourself. I think passion is what separates a good content creator from a bad one, and if you notice that you start losing interest in what you usually do, it's probably the right decision to change direction and try out something different, even if it's scary.

Goodluck big dog! Thanks for all of the content over the years, and for a cracked Forbidden Rite build that I fell in love with.
    Godspeed!

I’ll never forget your intro to betrayal vid. The only one that made we want to do the mechanic.
    Goodluck with the venture!

Really happy to hear you're taking care of yourself like this. Although I'm a POE addict and IMO you've been one of the best content creators for that game, I'm way more excited to see what you'll do next now.
(Also, it was great to hear you mention your expedition guide and Bane gang. The former helped me immeasurably when I was a confused new player with no idea how to farm in 3.18, and the latter helped me get my first Maven kill in 3.19, one of my favorite gaming memories.)

2 years ago i stumbled across your channel. I loved your format, attitude, and sense of humor. I joined up on your discord, and found a massive crew of helpful people. Fast forward a few months, and I'm laid up with a broken foot, playing PoE all day, and grinding a chieftain to be an MF char. Members of your community helped me get my first char to lvl 100. You personally dropped a few divines on me to ensure i got the right gear. You are a free-spirited person that takes nothing for granted, and pays it forward at every turn. I know things will align for you. I say all that to say this: Thank you for doing what you have done. You are truly one of the most solid folks on this platform. I'm still a member in disc, and will drop in from time to time to see how things are going. Take care my friend, and i wish you all the best and more.

    Thanks for the build guides!
I totally understand you, I also ended up going to Japan and try and be more who I wanted to be. Would love to see what you'll get up to. If you ever swing by Tokyo and I see you, I'll buy you a beer. Hope you enjoy life here!

I wish you all the best in your endeavours! Over the course of the last few years I've grown tired of PoE myself and I get your regret about spending so much time playing video games. In a way it was still time well spent while I enjoyed it but especially when it becomes a habit more than anything as PoE tends to do I get that sinking feeling of wasting my life sometimes. I'm 35 now and in part because I always had games to distract me I basically forgot about any ambitions or desires I used to have. A month can go by and I barely remember anything that happened the day after. The day to day at work can be alright and even fun but the lack of a social life outside of it or building up interests is catching up to me.
Bit of a rant but this video made me think about this stuff, sorry!

Hey Subtractem, wishing you all the best in your future ventures. I remember watching your videos on the bus on the way to university, hyped to see what new builds you've created. I'm sure a lot of others will agree that you have put out some incredible content for POE, and will support you with whatever you do moving forwards. Thank you for your hard work :D

I am sometimes using your frostblink ignite guide to level up. Even with non witch classes.

Just started playing POE on my PS4 3 weeks, no idea why I never started sooner. I’ve found your content to be 100% the most informative out there for us late to the game. I’ve learned a ton so far, also turning 42 this year! Cheers!

Was sad to see the title at first but brother you deserve to pursue what you feel you need to in life and we all know that feeling in the back of our minds that grows the more we don't go after those things. Looking forward to seeing where the channel goes!

Look forward to seeing some of your Japan stuff. A house tour maybe, I've been fascinated with Japan but alas I can't fly so the likelihood of ever going is slim so I live vicariously through others :)
Good luck on your next adventure, thanks for the builds and more importantly the tips I've gained specifically from you have allowed me to do some of my own custom builds.

You're joining the ranks of some of my favorite illustrious creators who trod the path before you - Lifting Nerd Bro, Engineering Eternity, WillyWonka, and others. You're moving onto a new chapter of the story of your life.
I lived in Hiroshima for a year and absolutely loved it. There's definitely room in the market for another channel like "Abroad in Japan", so do consider sharing your experiences living in Japan.
    Ganbatte ne!
