Austin is such a talented song writer (if you haven't seen "Remember My Name", "California Country", "Save the World" or "Lonely Girls World" - they're all terrific). The fire dancers are amazing and of course the singing, harmonies & beatboxing are incomparable. "I'll Go First", "Real Talk", "Off the Grid" & "Everlasting Ground" (on Austin's channel) are sooo good.

Not cuz he showed that home free might use auto tune, but how he seemed so set on trying to take away from their God given talents. Another writer of this song is Ernie Halter, who is famous for his "baby making" songs (Go check out one of Sweet and Low's / Tim Foust and Friends' live performances of Ernie's "I Would Look Good on You" for an example). Not claiming all the heat is Ernie's doing, but I'm sure his vibe helped.

Yes you can say that this song is fire! One of my favorites from the album or maybe even my favorite. How Rob starts so beautifully very quietly and then just like with fire the flames go higher and higher, so the song went through Austin here as well. The softness of Rob and the power of Austin is a nice combination
The incredible harmony was of course also present here, just like the super bassline and awesome beatboxing. Wonderful was also the video with that couple playing spectacularly with the fire. Home Free actually looks very simple, but it is still beautiful. The dark with the light of the fire. Top!
Here Home Free shows again that they really can sing anything.

I came for the Home Free reaction, new to the channel but definitely not new to Home Free (got 20 concerts down here in Europe, the first 2 were with Chris), so I would have subbed because I enjoyed your reaction. However, I hit that sub button so fast as soon as I heard your love for Jeffrey East. I will go back and checkout all Home Free and Jeffrey reactions. I also have 6 Jeffrey East opening for Home Free acts in my backpack, here in Europe, as I am sure you already know he did for their entire 2018 Euro-tour. I fell so in love with his music, personality and songwriting skills that I put together his fan group on Facebook and together with Jeffrey and a few other Euro Fries I came up with East Buddies for his fans. I'm no longer managing the fan group, but I still love Jeffrey and his music and I'm hoping he'll find his way over to Europe again this year.
This is definitely one of my many favourite Home Free songs, and you can absolutely hear Jeffrey East in it, as well as Ernie Halter who was another one of the songwriters on it. There is also a fourth person listed, someone who does a lot of writing with Jefffrey, but I can't remember his name right now.
Thank you for bringing up the Wings of Pegasus-video, it really annoyed me. I know pretty much every artist uses pitch correction these days, and I know Home Free uses it. They have never denied it and actually openly say that they do use some on their recordings, just as they use layering and mixing. Some fans just don't understand these things at all, and there are these false rumours going around on UA-cam that they don't, just as there is a rumour that Adam is a world champion, twice, in beatboxing. He's not. He's never competed.
Home Free has said that they get to have the best of two worlds, because live is live and it is amazing, and it requires a lot of precision and voice control for volume and harmonising and all of that, but of course it's not absolutely perfect, because as you say it is not possible. I find people's ignorance ridiculous if they actually thought that there's no engineering on their recordings. (And I'm just a human being and has no real knowledge about music or productions).
The studio recordings allow them to be more ellaborate and free in their arrangements as they are also all recorded separately and then mixed together. It's a whole different game. Yes, there are a few places in a few songs where it might have been too much, but who cares.
They still kill it live. It's still mind-blowing what they can do with their voices live and on recordings. It is still freaking out of this world to hear Austin do his long, high notes and runs, Rob's sweet and, almost pitch perfect, soulful voice, Chance's smooth butter-voice, Tim's rumbling bottom that literally rocks your seat, your body and the air around you, and Adam's completely insane talent, and who's bass drops also rocks your world. The harmonies that come out as a result, the joy for the music and their trade. It's all very, very real. And this Wings of Pegasus-guy made it sound as if they are not all that, and as if it is still only those who cannot sing that uses pitch correction.
Wow, this was long. Thanks for reading if you did. LOL

Yeah, a lot of us saw the WoP reaction. All I have to say is I've seen the guys live quite a few times and I KNOW how great they sound. You're right, they don't need it. That's all FiL does is break down everyone's use of auto tune. I noticed a lot of comments from users who I never see commenting on most Home Free reactions, so their opinions don't matter much to me. Although, them not knowing how talented the guys are live is disappointing and after watching a breakdown like WoP - doubtful they'll look into the guys further and miss out on how truly talented they are. It is what it is. Thanks guys! 🖤🍟

Hi guys! Love your reactions! I watched the Wings of Pegasus video and I think Phil was trying to say that they COULD have done the background ooohs and such with a keyboard, (not saying that they aren't good singers), but like you said Jeremy I believe that just about everyone uses it to some extent. However, Phil did say that he likes their live vocals better. He actually compared the sing off version of colder weather with the studio version and liked it better because it was real. I saw some other comments here that said wait until you hear them live. That is a fact and they are "ON POINT"! So if they do use it in the studio it certainly doesn't take anything away from them live. They are a fantastic group and will continue to put together great arrangements in the future. Nothing taken away from Home Free at all. In fact, I think Phil hated to do that video. lol! Have a great day!

I was kinda freaking about the fire with the hair, too! I kept thinking, “Adam! Why is your hair down for this one?!” Austin and Jeffrey did an amazing job! I think it is probably the most commercially ready song they’ve done. It’s an ear worm, too…
Fil from Wings of Pegasus is a great guy and a really good musician. He’s been doing the auto tune and pitch correction software for a few years now. In his Pentatonix comparison, he indicated upfront that he was a little uncomfortable doing it (and the discrepancy was more obvious). Of course, someone paid to have him check Home Free, and I think they probably didn’t like the results. Knowing that the guys record at home and then send their tracks in for production, and knowing a little about the process, I was not surprised. But, honestly, the guys sounded better live than they did on the produced version. Rob’s voice was so clear on the live version, and kinda of muffled on the recorded version. You will get your own opportunity to check it out!
Jeremy, normally Home Free doesn’t do live sound checks. Their sound guy has something he uses. But, in the shows I’ve been to, the sound area is on the main level and you can walk right by it. I can’t remember the sound guy’s name, though. He shows up in a lot of their behind the scenes stuff.
There is a video of the guys singing How Great Thou Art in a storm shelter for fans because the storm cancelled the show and they didn’t want it to be a total bust. It’s a cell phone video but they were just a few feet away.

I watched about 15 seconds of Wings of Pegasus' video, and it felt like he was taking too much pleasure in finding the Autotune. Sigh 😕. With today's technology, it's almost expected that studio-produced music should be perfect. So I'm waffling in my feelings. What I DON'T like about Autotune is when it's used to make mediocre singers sound good, then promote them as being wonderful. At least HF sounds great without all the technology.

I actually watch "Wings Of Pegasus". Really like his analysis. Was very disappointed to see that Home Free uses pitch correction & auto-tuning. Of all the a cappella groups out there, they don't need it at all as they are so extremely talented. Their live shows prove just how good they are. I know Pentatonix & VoicePlay use it too. By the way, WoP included a clip of HF doing Colder Weather on the Sing Off and noted how much better he thought they sounded without the pitch correction as he does witth every one of those auto-tune videos he does. I have to agree with him, it always sounds better when you can hear what the singer sings rather than a computer corrected version of the singer. Back in the old days, which is where I'm from, there was no such tech. Singers sounded more human and it was easy to tell a good singer from a not so good singer.

    ooohhh!!!! Jeffrey on here?!?!?! Cool.
I have thought about Jeffrey, he is already a part of their 'family', and is about as hyper as Austin, but his voice is pretty soft, it might not stand up to the entire group. But he does have the range that Austin does. And, yes, that is just about the lowest of Austin's range. 'Everlasting Ground' is about the lowest we have heard from him. You guys should really go check out the Sweet & Low stuff to get Jeffrey, Austin and Tim in a sextet. Either their livestreams OR the videos from Tim's Birthday Brunch last summer.
As to the pitch correction - what most Home Fries say, so what? Their abilities show quite well in concert.
HF doesn't do a sound check live anymore. They use the recording from the previous concert to dial the sound system in.

Another couple names that fans have thrown out are Chris Chatham and Buegs. I don't think Chatham would work. He's actually a higher tenor than Austin, but he has a very rock edge to his voice. Buegs might work better. The only problem with Jeffrey, Buegs, or Chatham is they're all significantly shorter than the guys of Home Free. You wouldn't think that's a big deal, but they're kinda known for their "skyline".

Yah. I was thinking Blake Proehl, with his height and his background, might be a good fit with the guys.
But I don't think he's a 'power tenor' and might need a decade more singing experience.
      It's interesting to speculate.
Vocally, I can only imagine Sam Ryder.
But in the end I think it's going to be someone from musical theater or gospel, rather than country music.

Fil @ Wings of Pegasus has been on the autotune topic for quite a while. He only did Home Free because after his Pentatonix analysis a few weeks ago, people specifically requested Home Free. (oh fer silly, dontcha know)
I started watching Fil for his guitar analysis, but he's decent singer too. It's his soapbox. He can say what he wants. But superfans, who pop in and just watch the one analysis of their favorite artists, don't always take it well.
Personally, on the last two HF albums, I find some of the songs fixed to the point of blandness. "Colder Weather" is definitely one.
Even on "Playing with Fire," which I think is one of their best original songs, I would have liked it to be a bit more punchy. We know both Rob and Austin can turn on the passion. I wish some risky-ness had made it into the final cut.

Yeah, I’ve seen quite a few of his videos. I actually don’t mind him at all. And I don’t feel he’s malicious. Or purposefully trying to be mean. Not at all. But we just have a little more knowledge on HF than he does. So his comparisons just felt off. But I actually like the dude. Everyone uses pitch correction. I mean, not EVERYONE 100% of the time…but it’s far more used, than not used. It’s just unfortunate because folks who don’t have more knowledge of production or of the artists, will get a very tainted and one sided outlook. But either way…what he does, I don’t feel is “wrong”.

@musikbyjh I've been watching him a long time. He was one of the first musicians I found doing YT reactions, and he explains stuff well. He has his preferences and enthusiasms, just like everyone.
Someone recommended Singscope to me. The basic version was free but seems only available on my Apple phone, not my Android. It just shows the pitch on a graph, and playsback. No editing.

I am suspect of Wings of Pegasus…. he did the same analysis on Pentatonix and shredded them as well. I really became suspect when with the Home Free one he seemed to zone in on Rob. I’m sorry, but when you decide to zone in on the one with operatic training, could have become a professional opera singer easily and is probably the least likely to sing off key I wonder about his motives, what software is he using and does it have a margin of error does it have and what equipment is he playing it through, is there any distortion? He seems to knit pick mostly on a capella groups, why? All in all, I don’t trust him or his analysis.
This song is Fire and I love Austin’s lower register, especially in tender songs, it has a vulnerability to it. I will never stop loving these boys no matter what anybody says! ❤
I believe Peter Hollens told Tim he doesn’t want to travel a lot. I believe Tim’s post asked us if anyone knew of any “country power tenors”. While I love Peter and Jeffrey, I don’t think either of them is country enough or has enough power.
Thanks for a fun reaction, love you guys! ❤ #HomeFree

Hi Jeremy! I know this is a late post, but I got to thinking about who Home Free might put in Austin's place. Of course we thought maybe they would ask Peter Hollins or Jeffery East, however, I just thought that if anybody could embrace the music and goofiness of the group it would be (Chris Chatham)! I may be wrong but I think he would be a good fit. What do you and Jillian think? Have a great day!

Hi friend!! Solid choice. Other Fries have mentioned his range may not fit, but we'd have to hear Chris more to formulate our own opinion. Can't recall him specifically since we've only done a song or two with Chris. So curious though...and I wonder when we'll find out?!?!

Oh, also the parts that you picked up that sounded very processed i think were intentionally so. Like in My Church with the old radio sound, they sometimes intentionally process a given bit to give it a different sound. There's a part in Boondocks / Fishing in the Dark where they intentionally compressed Austin's voice to give it a mechanical quality. Chris Rupp even talks about it in his behind the scenes "reaction" video to the song.

I'm with you. I was afraid the whole time about someone getting their hair caught by the flames. 🔥Austin's talent on this was my favorite from his low growl to ripping the roof off that high note.😅🔥 I saw that Pegasus review and have to admit he was the very 1st reactor that I had followed. I stood up for HomeFree because I've seen them live, and I also love their studio recordings, so I'm not bothered with the autotune. Their great no matter how you spin it. Sorry, but I can't let anyone bash my boys and their talent. Ask my family!😂😂😂

I think Home Free are just the best! They don't need any voice manipulation. Wings of Pegasus was not bashing them at all. He mentioned that they had great voices. He is bashing the music industry that uses & abuses auto-tuning & pitch correction.

    • @earllapura3891
      @earllapura3891 5 місяців тому +1

@@dagmar.6954 Home Free intentionally does pitch correction, because they live in different states. Imagine if they want all the boys to go to the studio to do multiple takes just to get their sound right (they are a 5-man acapella group, imagine if someone gets just one note off.) I'd say pitch correction is a tool to help them. If you use pitch correction to make a horrible singer good, then that's where it is bad, at least for me. But it just enhances Home Free's sound. If they haven't used that, I think all of them might have quit 5 years ago, just due to the fatigue. Even Austin is quitting because he doesn't want to be away from home.

  • @nanadeborah8717

A question Jeremy. Because they do the majority of their recording remotely now, when Darrin mixes it, could that be the reason for the pitch correction? They are amazing singers. When you see them in person, you will be blown away! They are that good. It was just disappointing. You don't get the richness of Rob's voice in the pitch correction. You will in the concert. The live Sea Shanty shows the fullness and richness of his voice. It's so beautiful. However, Pentatonix was also heavily pitch corrected. It was sad that some fans said they would no longer be fans because of it. You will love the show! Hopefully you get a BTS interview and meet them. Thanks!!

Hey Nana Deborah! Yes is the short answer, but not always the case. We'd have to dig into a few other things as well (e.g, how and where recorded) to really know for sure. I watch Wings of Pegasus all the time too and I saw him do PTX first and thought "oh please don't do HF" because I knew the results would be what it was (because of course somebody asked him to do HF.) 😒 To me, it doesn't bother me either because they have to compete with artists with instruments and I know those get processed too, so what's the big deal, right? That's why you have "live" concerts which isn't processed! And once you see them live and then listen to the official releases, you know there's a difference immediately. Both are very good though, live v. official! I feel like I'm getting "the best of both worlds". And Pegasus admitted that they were good, he could tell that. But once you go down that road, there are people who feel they're being cheated and it's not "true" a capella which I think is silly. But it is what it is. I love y'all. You two are in my top 3 fav reactors!! y'all are so much fun! Thx!

Personally I hate auto-tune. It takes the humanity and soul out of the vocal and those Wings of Pegasus videos demonstrate that perfectly. They sound so much better without it. Sure, they aren't always perfect, nobody is, but that's the beauty of music. The emotion and imperfections of a great singer are what makes it so good. You'll love these guys live and, as Tim says, it's not a show, it's a party. And it is!

A a cappella singer who has worked with Home Free and Tim by the name Of Peter Hollens did his version of the song with his signature multi layering. You have to see this video to believe the beauty in his work. If you've seen their video I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For then you know the man has the voice of an angel.
