Haven't heard this in forever. Don't know what you'd do unless you were there but you can speculate

Good song and review. This life has a lot of different people in it and Conway explored a lot of them. Not all pawnbrokers are like this, not all suicidal guys are like this, not all wives are like this. I think the significant line is "I was once some one's husband, she was once some man's wife." That's why he had empathy for her.

Hey Don, You nailed my reason for my question. As Gilbert said, we can only speculate as to what we would have done. I would have done something to help her in some way. How could you not?

"A Saturday Night Special is an easy thing to buy/ All you gotta be is 21..... or 15 if you lie."
    There's a brilliant, subversive lyric.
This is a crazy song. Not sure a mainstream country star could do something like this today--a song that seems to question the whole American gun culture.

He chose to pay. Sometimes you want to take a chance when you know you're facing someone who thinks they have nothing to lose

Tks Ed. I love this great story song. Have always felt the pawn broker was a mean & nasty guy who didn't care about anyone or anything but making $. Just by the way Conway was singing this song. I always cheer Conway on when he get the lady $2,000 more by the threatening the guy with the gun in his pocket. I never even considered Conway was robbing him. He was robbing the lady by trying to buy the wedding ring for $7. I wonder how much he would have sold it for?? You know his profit would have been huge. I also love the fact that the lady & the man ended up together. He didn't kill himself & threw the gun in the lake. Song just says so much. Conway knows how to sing a great song!

That guy was meant to be there, as he was going to kill himself with that gun. Thanks for the song request, Ed. Great reaction to this song by Conway, Don.
