Even if Tamiya does not license some of their bodies, they are still a work of art, they never disappoint. As always a great review, and running video Greg. 👍
My first was the Blackfoot. Now, 30 plus years have passed, and tamiya has got me with the squash van body style. I love it. I can say not much has changed with tamiya not being good or bad, just is. Can not wait to drive it. Thanks for video
Looks like a decent release from Tamiya 🙂 will get pretty costly after fitting oil dampers and ball bearings, which almost is a must if used as a runner. But Tamiya always delivers the fun factor 👍 and that's what matters the most.
Lets be honest , Tamiyas main demographic is the middle aged man who in their youth either owned or wished they owned a Tamiya, its a nostalgia thing , in order to make these kits perform anything better than a child's toy (new shocks/bearings / drive shafts etc ) you spend enough money to buy an RTR from the many competitors out there ! Tamiya has always had the edge when it comes to the aesthetics and of course enjoyment in the build process but performance is not their thing.
nice to see a fixed axle alternative to the Clod by Tamiya. I was planning on building a Bigfoot 4 with a hybrid leaf and shock suspension based off the SCX10, but this seems like it might be a much better host if it can handles the weight from the Jconcepts golden years
Great video. I agree with all. I just built mine. I put oil shocks and full bearings. I installed a Tamiya BZ motor and 2s lipo, it pop wheelies. I also changed the tires to some INJORA RC Tires 2.2inch on mine. They look fantastic!
I love Tamiya kits they bring me back to when i was kid. that being said i am surprised parts didnt break during this session. I don't understand why they continue to use that brittle hard plastic. they could keep their designs the exact same, just use a Losi, Associated, Traxxas or Arrma type plastic. they would still keep the "shelf queen" market while picking up some of the backyard basher market.
Japanese economy is F---ED. There's virtually NO money for future R & D at Tamiya, Kyosho, etc....... This company is like Morgan Cars UK. All they can afford to do is re-release kits that my generation (I'm 44 years old) had growing up. Also, like Rolex, they keep supply way below demand. This makes retailers & resulting customers feel they're getting something "special" for the money.
@philthyco1 ok maybe it's not the exact same plastic from the 80's but it's the worst plastic in the industry (out of any major brands). unless you get their top of the line on road kits nearly every kit is the same brittle plastic. Imagine if they released this kit with ball bearings, oil filled shocks and comparable arrma, traxxas, losi, associated plastic. This would be a dream, I would buy 10 of them. face it for the most part tamiya kits are really just models to be placed on a shelf.
@philthyco1 I guess we will have to agree to disagree. great going back and forth with you,, while keeping it polite. by the way, I have built 7 tamiya kits, both old and new. not a lot compared to some, but more than most. have a great weekend.
I like the looks, and agree with the outdated tech comments. I buy almost every brand, but have a question. Do any of you believe this model has collectable value? I have two of sitting on my work bench. Should I keep one and build the other? Or build them both? I have roughly 75 Tamiya kits unopened starting from the Fox and includes the orifinal Bigwig, Avante, Astute, etc. Thank you in advance for you thoughts.
Thanks for the review Greg. Always great to have something new from Tamiya. I am interested in the bike ramp you use. Can you share the brand or where you got it?
I’ve had a few Tamiya RCs before and wasn’t really impressed with them. I wish Tamiya would get with the program and bring their models up to speed with the majority of the other Main stream rigs out there.
3S is asking a lot of that truck. 2S might be as fast as it should go. Some simple upgrades though, and you got yourself a nice little truck! Great video!
Any chance you can make a vid comparing the Kyosho MP10e readystart with the Armma TLR Typhoon please? They are about the same price and I’ve seen a lot of people wanting a comparison
It could trail, but I don’t know about rock crawl. Long wheelbase, low chassis. It would probably hang up. Tamiya sells locking putty that would be better than grease if you were to try it.
I always wanted a Tamiya back when I was 12 in the early 90s like the Thunder dragon, Midnight Pumpkin or Clodbuster. But I never had one instead I got a Red Arrow from radio shack it was decent. Forward over 30 years I have no interest now in Tamiya, I'll stick to my Losi, Arrma, Team associated, Redcat and even traxxas RCs.
I was an 80s kid and these are so satisfying to build and see run.

She motors pretty good on 3S, great review, Greg. Cheers!
Yup, 3S make Tamiyas so much fun.
Id love to see another ep with oil shocks upgrade and see how much better it is, and any other upgrades you think would improve it!
LOVE the look of this thing! Now, see, a 3S capable ESC where you're actually using 3S. LOL Looks fun and fast on that.
It was scootin’!
What a cool little Tamiya Truck! Great review and yes as always Tamiya skimps out on shocks with just friction dampers that have no friction. lol

Any suggestions for replacement shocks?
This truck looks really koool

@RC4x4
Do the oil dampers you upgraded to resolve the bouncing on the Squash Van ?

I love this. I havent bought a Tamiya since the lunchbox relaunch, i would love to tackle this beauty 👌
Very cool RC I like the retro look great video 😎

Looks like I found another Tamiya to buy. Thanks for the vid👍
Certainly a cool build for Tamiya fans!
Looks cool. Would the Monster Beetle body fit on this chassis? Would be cool to have a 4x4 monster beetle. Definitely needs oils shocks.
Looks like a decent yard ripper with some shocks. Body does look great out there.
Do a rere of Bushdevil! That was a simple fun build. And you could beat the crap out of it.
looks stunning 👍
Ooooooooooooo helllllll ya what a great Cassie ALL HAIL THE YELLOW BANANA HEAVY DUMP TRUCK. MY FAVORITE RC.
Are these made from Tamiya 1985 abs plastic cheese or are they using modern plastics that don’t break on rollover like all other companies?
Thanks for the review Greg. Always great to have something new from Tamiya. I am interested in the bike ramp you use. Can you share the brand or where you got it?

How fast does it go?? I’m think about buying it looks so nice
Are oil filled shocks available for this? Want to buy one, but way too much bounch for me.
That's a cool little truck.💯💯😎😎

All it needs is oil shocks, and it can handle much more power and speed.
Those GF01 chevron tires really look nice on this 👍
I'm curious about driving a standart brushed motor on 3s. Ho long do the electronics hold up, I mean the 1060 esc can take it officially.. 😮
Nice build looks good 🏆
Love the Squash Van looks awesome 😊 and goes well to 😊😊 nice build..be interesting to see how it goes with some oil dampers.. Pete
A great looking truck, but you got to have some good shocks.
Any chance you can make a vid comparing the Kyosho MP10e readystart with the Armma TLR Typhoon please? They are about the same price and I’ve seen a lot of people wanting a comparison
I like to see this chassis with the Tesla steal cyber truck body 😊
How would it do with a high turn motor and some really stiff grease in the diff? Would it crawl?
It could trail, but I don’t know about rock crawl. Long wheelbase, low chassis. It would probably hang up. Tamiya sells locking putty that would be better than grease if you were to try it.
Put some good shocks on it and let’s drive it again??
Old fashion ice cream truck look
Hi Greg I think it would benifit from a set of oil shocks would stop all of the bouncing around and would be alot better on jumps
Absolutely! Oil shocks will totally help this model out.
Are there oil filled ones available for it?@@rcdriver
Just great 👍
Friction shocks on a so called hobby grade RC in 2023 🤣
And plastic bushings too!🤣🤣🤣
🎉🎉🎉

Wondering if this body would fit on the Wild Dagger
Wheelbase is identical. This is essentially the new version of the dagger chassis.
@@jayspeed75 thanks 😊
I will bet money we will see more of these with blackfoot, wild dagger, twin detonator, and other WR and WT bodies.
@@jayspeed75 have a Wild Dagger chassis just sitting on a shelf waiting for a body. This would be great 👍.
Lack of oil shocks has been my main concern in seeing reviews so far. Thanks for the vid.
Yeah, some of their models they can get away with the friction dampers. I really think this one needed oil, it will make a huge difference.
Unfortunately this will be out of production before I can afford one.😢
Dont change the plug
Tamiya-aways more interesting models than they are useful.
If KT doesn't send it, I don't buy it. Great shelf queen stuff though.
Toys r us has better quality
