Mullaghmore, Ireland is a relatively new addition to the global big wave surfing scene. It's cold, temperamental, and very, very heavy. But when all the elements align it's one of the best big waves in Europe and over the last decade it has gone from a little-known spot favored by local hellmen to a world-renowned, media-frenzy wave.
Andrew Cotton caught one of the best swells of the winter at Mullaghmore. It was wild, windy, and the waves were unbelievable. The water footage in particular from this swell will chill you to the bone and make your heart skip a beat.

Been surfing 55 years and I can honestly say that today's lunatic fringe is as dedicated and talented as any era of surfing.
Anyone thinking of making vids like this please note. The poxy music and it's volume make it hard to hear what people are saying and spoil the whole show. Whilst adding nothing. Brilliant.

I thought that the shakey / blurry video was fitting for the wild and spooky conditions and added to the mood of the whole video, a bit like a horror film. This isn't the picture perfect blue sunny waves of Hawaii,this is moodey Ireland. I was genuinely surprised when half the comments were complaining ... this is the wild !
If you don't record above 60fps don't slow it down. It was shocking to watch, like watching a powerpoint..
I was surfing some beginner waves in Ireland in the middle of summer - The water was already as cold as a water jug in the fridge!

Cold ... I have been in Costa Rica for 8 years and I went back home to Oregon (NW USA) and surfed a pretty good sized day (10'-14') and I was hammered by the cold ... even with a 5mm suit ... my calf cramped and you get a literal icecream headache that knocks the wind from you on deep hold downs ... Years of tropical water has grown me a vagina ... yes ... I am now a surf pussy. I'll leave the freezing dark water with sleet coming down to real men.
Ashton Gardner I agree dude....I also think it's the harsh looking environment and the dark ominous looking water. these guys are true balls of steel group members. I also agree the music ruined this whole doc. way too loud and it's poorly chosen for most of the clips

When people climb Everest is it for fun? I didn't think so, more for the challenge, finding human limits and endurance. Being born and raised in Hawaii once the wet suit went on, the fun went away pretty quick.
I was in Mullaghmore a couple of weeks ago lovely place, but where exactly are these guys surfing and would September be a good time to go back. I only live a 100 miles away so I could go whenever I want, has anyone any info about the best time,or a link to surfing in Sligo.

"What surfing looks like from the water: Behind the lines". 80% of this is filmed from shore, interviews, or shots of ruined Jetskis.. I was waiting expectantly for either the surfer's view or from "behind the lines". Nice clips anyways.
