  • I tested this radio at all three power levels on both UHF and VHF. Got very interesting results. Bottom line this is not an 8 W radio. Maybe I just got a bad one but others have complained of the same thing. Like they say, “buy Chinese by twice!”

I wouldn't expect it to show a full 8 watts through this setup. You have to be losing the best part of a dB through the male-male converter and the plugs on either end. Added to that, The Nissei RS40 is not super precise. I think +/- 10% on these. It could well be 8 watts on 2 meters. Don't sweat the small stuff bro...

10% of 8, is .8, which would mean 7.2 watts, right? what kind of loss can you expect out of the connectors? sincerely, i am just trying to understand this all. above you will see i commented on how i tested 4 of exact same radios with the same tests and two different testers and got different results on all a4 radios. i suspect the chinese are selling the 5 watt radios as 8 watts, this is possibly a scam and should be looked into

I tested it hooked up to 19" Mag-mount Nagoya style antenna got around 7.4 watts.

I have not tested mine . That thin cable looses a lot of your output power . I bought adapters to hook my radio and antenna directly. That should give better readings.
With that said I bought mine from BTech.
BTech even says that on UHF 7watts and on vhf 8.
I hope mine does exactly what I bought them for. I think that the BF-F8HP is one of the most versatile radio I have.I will be happy with 7 watts although I bought it for the 8watts
