NOTE: I think we needed just one more thing to go wrong for this to truly be horror themed. The uncensored version of this video was also swallowed somewhere on the backend. No idea what happened, but it's gone. Like I said for the Texas Chainsaw episode, don't go looking for it on Patreon, it isn't there. I'll do a bonus video over there to make it up to you. Gotta love a Halloween botch job, right? Maybe the uncensored version is in some parallel dimension. ...are the nurses there, too? I'll be right back.
Man I first saw this movie like 2 or 3 years after it came out and it freaked me the fuck out. I thought it was awesome when I saw it and this review showing the behind the scenes stuff makes it even better. Thanks 616
I saw this in the theatre with my mom, who's a horror lover, and she was shocked when I told her it was a video game movie. If you didn't play the games, know the backstory, you'd never know, the story and cinematography holds up on it's own as a great horror flick. When they announced the crew was getting together to make a sequel, I was stoked. That second movie wasn't great, so I'd love to see them do it right again.
My brother recently showed me this film in our recent hangout, and OMG, it was amazing! The near faithfulness to the game was amazing, the visuals were mind blowing, the creatures were eerie as hell, oh man, this film is SO good! Yes it can be confusing at times, but that’s the point of Silent Hill. More questions than answers. Definitely an underrated gem, and it so needs more love. Amazing video Ian, and thank you for another Scream Sequence banger. Hope you and all the DanDans continue to have a good week, stay safe, and I love you all.😊❤️
Totally agree here! I'm a HUGE fan of the franchise and Gans own vision for this movie - that has most elements from the first game - was spot on imo. And now Gans will be back for "Return To Silent Hill" and I'm all in for it!
Zombies ate my Neighbors background music! Noice!!! Can go unnoticed to the uninitiated, but we are initiated aren't we! Classic game, great review, really enjoy your stuff bud! Keep it up!
I’ve never played a Silent Hill game. Just not for me but I really dug this movie. The cast is great, the camera work is so good and I love the set design. The monsters are unbelievable. I knew about Pyramid Head and the Nurses but the other body horror creatures were so creepy and awesome looking. It blows my mind that so much of it is one dude playing them and it’s all (mostly) practical effects. The stuff that is CGI looks good to me and flows with the world. I’ve watched several let’s plays of the series because of this movie. It definitely deserved a better sequel.
I was the same way, in singing the praises of Silent Hill. I remember going to the midnight showing of it, because I was that excited for it. I thought it was way better than Resident Evil, particularly because of the visuals. I really was hoping that more would have come with Silent Hill. The second movie aside, I felt a series would have worked better for it, as it would give time to delve into the lore a lot deeper. Maybe one day we can get that, and they not Resident Evil it.
Yeah, I'm a somewhat casual fan of Silent Hill & the lore, & I really appreciate that they really tried to get the spirit of the game on the screen. It's not some sleek & pretty ipod design, it looks rusty, bloody & unwelcoming. Whenever I saw this, I know it wasn't 1 to 1 to the video games, but man they really did give it their all, & for what it's worth, it is a great job. Now for them to actually make a movie around Silent Hill 2, the script writes itself, but I digress. Great review 👍
I've said the same about this movie for a long, long time! It was so good! I played Silent Hill 2 with my dad and sister when I was in 8th grade. It was so much fun. The remake of 2 is also great. Have a great one 👍
I stayed away from the Silent Hill games because I didn’t know what they were about upon seeing trailers and shit lol. Just looked way too confusing and a lot of frustration I didn’t need. Resident Evil gave me enough. I did watch this movie a while back and the director and his crew did go all in to making this movie as authentic to the games as possible. The environments and monsters looked incredible. That’s the type of respect I wish the Resident Evil movies would get. It’s an awesome movie but still not a big fan of the games. Looking forward to your Candyman review!
I totally agree. The movie is awesome and so well tuned to the theme, look, and feeling of the games. Sure it's not Harry Mason looking for his daughter Cheryl but it does keep true to the lore. People dismiss it because it's either hard to follow or isn't 100% matching to the game. Great flick!
I brought a bunch of friends to the theater for this one, and none of them liked it but me. 😅 And "like" might be an understatement. Mortal Kombat '95 is great, but imo, Silent Hill is the best videogame film ever, and it even made my Top 10 movies of 2006. It's got some issues, but I love this movie, and it's another one of those adaptations that's so cool, some of its ideas got incorporated into later games.
Went to theaters and saw this movie when it first came out and I loved it. The church barbwire massacre scene was f'n awesome. Especially with Dark Alessia dancing under the bloody mess. This movie was one of the rare adaptations that got it right. Too bad that the follow up sequel, kind of f'd up everything
Thank god someone reviewed this movie! It’s my guilty pleasure film 😂 and yes I know it’s not great. I don’t care, I love it, and no one ever talks about it
Bro i think the greatest part of this episode os the music being from my favorite game of all time zombies ate my neighbors. I whistle this shit randomly. Bravo
I'm not a fan of the games, but I actually enjoyed the movies (yes, both movies, tho the 2nd one less so lol) quite a bit. I think their a good blend of dumb fun, serious horror, action, weird independent identity & commercial appeal, with cool monsters & interesting characters, great visuals & gore. & i will randomly re-watch them when I run into them.
IMO, I feel like this is the best video game adaptation. It's not "oh it's in the top 3" nah, best one. And to this day, the only movie I've seen in theaters twice.
It's one of the best survival horror games ever made. It's more scary than Resident Evil. Even though Christoph managed to make a good movie, but there were something that he completely ignored the first game's source material. Also he put the monsters from SH2 for no reason. He made Alyssa a vengeful spirit rather than an abuse victim. Incubus isn't shown as the true antagonist. Don't know how he'll manage to make SH2 into a movie, cause they're a lot of risky topics in those games. Especially with Angela's history of abuse with her father. Overall it's a good movie, but an amazing practical effects
I think this movie has a fantastic art direction. It's very visually distinct and pretty and a macabre way But the more I watch it the less impressed I actually am with how it's written It feels more like a fan film mashup than a really great adaptation of the first game. The studio forcing all of the Sean Bean segments in doesn't really help the whole vibe either I don't think it's terrible. But overall I would call it just okay. It really falls apart for me with the ending
One of the most infuriating reviews I remember seeing was one where they said that the movie would only make sense to fans of the game. Like, WTF? I played the game and I didn't understand what was going on. Why is there an evil Alessa? Why is the devil involved? Why is there an alternate dimension? Why is Pyramid Head in this? Where's Harry Mason? Where's the cult and their plan to birth their demon god? What's the deal with the ending? It played a huge hand in ruining how people view the story of the series.
O man. I am a Patreon supporter and I gotta say I’m disappointed your video for the game clearly showed you never really got into it, AND that you gush over the movie lol. Ouch, my heart. lol. But we are all allowed to disagree. And I will continue to support your channel, because I think you’re awesome.!
Oh that’s a misunderstanding. I think the game is very cool, legendary, even. I just don’t LOVE it the way many do, and I think it has some big problems, that’s all!

The first silent hill movie is imo the best videogame movie ever made. It's just so faithful to the games. Shame the second movie is just a big pile of s***!
@@616Entertainment Its more the reasons for the change that are kind of suspect. Apparently having a father going to hell and back to save his kid wasn't believable enough in Gans' opinion. @@ReluctantWarrior Silent Hill is largely about motherhood and the struggles of being a woman. Silent Hill 3 is almost entirely focused on this.
