This big touch screen does give a HIGH END feel when we're using it, especially when handling multiple zones it's just feels way more better than a smartphone, for me smartphones feels like playing music through a Bluetooth speaker , PERSONALLY 😄
I run the Roon UI on Ubuntu using Wine. It takes a bit of installing (the right version of Wine, mainly) but then it is mostly fully functional. Which I love because it’s my workstation during the day
A wish i have had for years, a physical jukebox for digital media. Never found good software but with the recent discovery of Roon i finally found it. And yess now its time to build this. Thanks for the inspiration. It is exactly what you state, you miss a physical feel on a digital library.
Thank you for enabling comments! Effectively you have created a modern equivalent of a Jukebox. I was planning to do something similar (on a smaller scale) - been trying to find a decent smallish monitor
NECRO! lol.. love the video.. one of the issues with a lot of touch screen monitors (even down at the 15-16 inch size) is that they put their ports on the side, so even if you put a NUC on the back on the VESA mounts etc, you still have unsightly cables coming from the side of the monitor.
Just getting into streaming with a Cambridge CX system and I’ve pressed an old iPad Air into service as a controller/viewer Gradually removing all other distractions from it so audio will be all it does eventually. I like the rabbit hole experience of Quobus and can see me getting into Roon shortly, thinking of building a Roon core. Thanks for the inspiration! 🙏🏻
I think this is a fantastic idea... that touchscreen will be added to my setup fe sure.... if you like sharing music with others essentially thos can become a jukebox like fixture in a home

Hi mate, you have confirmed my thoughts on what I desire for my streaming set up, so many times my phone acts as a distraction, Facebook etc, so having a dedicated place to select my music is great, be even better with a remote.
This video made me buy an extra tablet / dock and a Bluetooth keyboard for next to my streamer. 27 inch is a bit much for me since I've already got a 49 inch screen for daily use with my laptop but next to my streamer that Lenovo p11 will look awesome 😎
Back in the day you need cleaning equipment for the records. Now you need cleaning equipment for all the Touchscreens. It's all different - it's all the same :)
Love the the videos to see the possibilities. As a luddite I am always somewhat confused. So many questions. eg, why do you need a Node with the Buchardt? I thought that was the point of the A500 was to not need a Node.
What are you currently using for your screen these days? I just closed a deal on an M10 and going back to digital! I want a dedicated screen for my digital experience and not be my phone where everything else is. Thinking about placement, stand, size that works for moving it around with me, or not, .... And it comes with BluOS. How does it compare with Roon now?
Did Spotify silently start streaming cd quality? My WiiM amp shows 900kbps and 16-bit/44.1 kHz when I stream some Spotify songs to it from my iPhone 13
Hi Darko, I love your channel and learn a lot from you. I've a new android phone and Ibasso DC03. The Ibasso came with a UAC volume application that is crash a lot. I'm using Spotify and USB audio player pro/ Do I need the UAC application in between the Spotify or the USB player pro? Looking forward to your reply
WOW! How did you get get to choose your device (node) as a pre-specified output device? I have a touchscreen dedicated for my tidal as well. But I have to choose my device (cxn v2) every time I want to start streaming.
Can you have the same stream going to multiple zones at the same time? I found Roon disappointing for searching classical recordings. Is there an alternative search engine for streaming services?
So if I got it straight, whichever touchscreen monitor I use with my NUC core via hdmi/usb, would work this way? Also could I add a keyboard I I wanted?
I took a trial suscription with TIDAL, with tha MQA Helm audio on my MAC, and the light remains Blue does not seem like wanting to get Magenta? Also I can't connect MQA with the Iphone 11, can't seem to find a proper connector from USB C to lightning. Do you have any suggestions? Hope I'm clear.... Thank you in advance for your answer.
Also .. i know this may be the wrong video for this question, what do you feel today about the sound quality of roon to cxn V2 vs tidal connect to cxn V2 or even to a node? Better? Same? Clinical?

Hi John, really enjoy all your top shelf content ...thank you! :-) I have the same question as Collin below :: Figured out yet how to stream simultaneously to multiple zones on your setup ? it be a fabulous follow up vid ..pls? Shine On!
large touch pad can be physically exhausting....hands, shoulders, back continuous movements, i prefer mouse when listening to music since minimal movements executed and less body conscious when absorbing music.
I am new to streamers... just bought bluesound... I am wondering why bluesound streaming through tidal and Spotify can’t work as easily as direct Bluetooth on cheap non network devices? Isn’t that what we are paying for?
Today i am so happy with finally realising this option at home. I decided to go with a 22 inch touchscreen. Now i finally have that tactile feeling again with my digital content. In a few days the surface dial arrives as well and then i can finalize the Roondial option as well. Again many thanks for this video @Darko Audio
Ill start by stating I don't mean to sound insulting. But don't you feel with all the devices and services your running, thats it's such a convoluted setup that you don't use them enough to justify having them all.
Concert albums are one and certain albums are designed to flow into eachother (often a thing in Ambient music or certain electronic albums). A gap really disturbs the flow in those cases.
My vote goes to the 12.9inch iPad Pro.... Having a large 27inch touch screen although cool looking, is not intuitive or convenient IMO. Messing around with windows is not a great user experience.
I like yours videos very much. But a topic that never pops up is electricity... Pity. Those servers are always on. Same for the rest of the gears. So having everything ready all the time, connected all the time is incredibly costly in terms of power and carbon footprint. It's not a sustainable model.

How's this project coming along?
Thank you for enabling comments! Effectively you have created a modern equivalent of a Jukebox. I was planning to do something similar (on a smaller scale) - been trying to find a decent smallish monitor
Thanks for turning me on to The Album Years, as mentioned in the video... Most excellent and much appreciated...!!!

I'm pretty happy with my Nativ Vita's 12" touchscreen interface. Good viewability without room-dominating size.
Woow, huge screen makes it easy to use the library

Interesting option. Still in doubt between buying an iPad Pro on a stand and buying a cheap nuc with a touchscreen monitor.
Now in 2022 ...the Galaxy Z Fold 4 is the ultimate roon device for that extended well laid out experience
Now hang the screen on the wall so you have a standing jukebox kiosk :)

Thanks for sharing this idea! Can you use your phone with touchscreen to control Tidal through the Node instead of using a laptop? Thanks so much!

just for gapless playback - he mentions this in video

For the price of that touchscreen and NUC I could have gotten a whole AIO machine.
So if I got it straight, whichever touchscreen monitor I use with my NUC core via hdmi/usb, would work this way?

Could you make the video on the cheapest way to get into apple lossless. I know you've made one on dac but what about headphones?
Have you heard of Haiku Salut, John? I believe you'd enjoy listening to their music.
very cool idea
what was that Ambient compilation? Im trying to find it.
large touch pad can be physically exhausting....hands, shoulders, back continuous movements, i prefer mouse when listening to music since minimal movements executed and less body conscious when absorbing music.
What are the weights on the equipment for
does roon go along with spotify?
Can you run Roon core on an Mac mini as the server?
Yes.
Is Roon a requirement for this display/touch to work ? Can the same thing happen with Spotify alone ?
Roon isn't needed. It's purely an audio playback and interface
Does ROON support UA-cam Music?

Update, the Roodial (other video) with the Surface dial has been installed as well. Awesome!!!!
And to finish it off... it is now connected via a still simple SMSL DAC to a Accuphase amplifier running KEFs Reference model 2. Great sound!
Ill start by stating I don't mean to sound insulting. But don't you feel with all the devices and services your running, thats it's such a convoluted setup that you don't use them enough to justify having them all.
....I don't understand why gapless is so important ??
To me gapless would be important if I'm listening to a concert album. So you don't hear gaps between the audience clapping etc inbetween tracks.
Concert albums are one and certain albums are designed to flow into eachother (often a thing in Ambient music or certain electronic albums). A gap really disturbs the flow in those cases.
Dark Side of the Moon! 😎
What are you using in the bathroom zone?
All Schiit gear.
well you did ask. lol
Wow, it's just like a clunkier version of Sooloos!
I prefer to call it semi retired
😤😭😤

Sorry, but even Spotify does play similar music at the end of a playlist....
