Thanks for the GREAT video. I watched it twice and then went out and installed mine this afternoon. Never had to even crack open the instructions!!! Works like a charm!
Your video was so much better than the instructions that I think Coleman-Mach should include a link to this video on the outside of the box or somewhere. I had mine upgraded and it only took me about an hour. There was a slight drop off in the noise level but what really helped that was blocking off about half of the evaporator array using a piece of aluminum diamond tread. It doesn't seem to starve the fan and really slows down the volume of air so reduces the noise. And now that it's cycling on and off I believe I can hang on to what little hearing I have left......Thank you so much!!!
Does anyone know if it makes any difference if a soft start has previously been installed? Is the upgrade in this video compatible with an aftermarket soft start?
Hi, I noticed that your new cover plate had acoustic insulation. Did you add this or does it comes with it and did it make it any less noisier ? I am considering this upgrade based on your vid. Thanks a lot. These AC units are pretty loud from the factory.
Awesome job. The only difference is my control panel mounted upside down inside the air conditioning vent. I think it depends on the model but I got it to work. No problem. Great job. Thank you for your help.
Followed your video, pausing while I did each step. Got mine installed tonight - works great, and it's so nice having an auto setting so the fan doesn't run all the time! I had the same problem with the short romex - glad I had some on hand! Thanks again for the great tutorial!!
Installed mine! I purchased the extra wiring just in case but I think this video and other comments throughout the web made a difference because it was long enough from the factory
Question for you.. First off great video and nice work. Can you set it so the fan stays running, in between the AC cycling? I don’t like to go from noise to no noise and frogs chirping and then go back to noise. My preference would be let the fan run all night while the AC cycles quietly in the background. Thanks.
@@firesideweekenders Hey there. Thank you for the video! I just installed in our camper and it was super easy to follow along with your video each step of the way. What setting on the app do you use to get it to do what the comment above is referencing? At night I definitely want to just keep the fan going and cycle the AC on and on. Is that Cool Hi/Lo? Thanks!
Awesome video. On a trip now and it’s been 95 to 100 in south Ga. Really tired of waking up as a campercicle… I’m one of te few that like the noise, we sleep with white noise machines so it’s perfect. Going to install the heat strip assembly when I retrofit this one…
Nice Video. Doing this upgrade this afternoon. I wired around the main switch to make the thermostat switch the fan on and off on the original unit but found the thermostat to be very inconsistent when the weather got warmer. Decided to spend the money and am hoping this upgrade fixes the problem for good. Thanks for the overview of the App and everything. Makes me feel much better about my purchase.
Thank you. I am glad that the video helped. The thermostat keeps things consistent. The only thing I have noticed is that because the temperature sensor is so close to the air being discharged, you have to set the temperature a lot lower to get the RV cooled to the real temperature. Hope this makes sense.
@@firesideweekenders Makes perfect sense. I did the install and noticed the same thing. The thermostat may read 65 but actual temperature would be closer to 70. I do like the unit though, being able to control the fan is worth the upgrade.
@firesideweekenders maybe try moving the temp sensor to the return side !..lol. of course its going to read a diff temp when you have the sensor reading the input air instead of the return air temp. watched a few video's of this model, not sure why everyone is sticking the freeze sensor in the discharge side instead of the return side ???..lol.
Great video. I installed 120v relay for $10 and have same sequence of operation with the fan cycling on and off. Still using knobs to set temperature. Only issue I have is the swing in temperature due to thermostat with sensing bulb that they use. My question to you. Does this upgrade with digital thermostat keeping constant temperature especially at night? Not too hot and then when unit comes on over cooling
It works just like the thermostat at home. So obviously there is a little overcooling/heating as designed but nothing major. Just like a normal AC would operate.
I was having problems connecting it via Bluetooth the instructions were saying the code was 0000 or 5555 but once I press the up and down button at the same time a 6-digit code came out on the reader display
Hey Ricardo and Group....I am looking to purchase this exact AC unit to replace the one that came with our Forest River. Quick Question.....in the video, I see you have extended out your romex but a couple of people have mentioned theirs was long enough. I bought a 2022 and was wondering if anyone knows if the main wire is long enough NOW that I don't need to purchase more romex? Thanks so much. AWESOME VIDEO!!!
What would cause this type of unit to keep icing over ? It was recently cleaned professionally? We would like to add this cover but also fix the problem first
low refrigerant, or a refrigerant leak. It can also happen due to dirty coils, a broken fan, faulty wiring, or clogged air filters. These are the different types of reason that would normally cause it but I have seen that with camper AC units, this happens to a lot of people in real hot temperatures because it runs too much. I don’t know for sure but I do think installing this faceplate will help because it will completely turn off the unit when it reaches temperature. The space of this camper is t that big so it shouldn’t run a lot.
The new control and relay box also has the freeze sensor that goes in the coils, and if you had the old rotary manual thermostat, they don't have that and they're horrible about icing up. They only had a capillary tube that sensed air temp going back in the return.
The only thing I did not see in the unit is an external thermostat I saw a freeze thermostat that you're supposed to stick between the fins of the cooling unit so I have no idea how it's keeping temperature but it is
You ever have an issue with the thermostat saying it’s cooler than it is? Mine will say 70… I’ll make it come in at 69…. It will turn in and cool it down to 68…. Then it will get warm and the thermostat still says 68 so I’ll have to bump it down to 67 and that’s an endless cycle of until I put the temp to say 70 again and let it warm up.. before stating the cool down ladder again. wondering if anyone has any ideas
I think you could as long as you have some very very basic electrical knowledge such as, turn off breaker and disconnect power, prior to installing. As long as you don’t have to extended your main electrical wire you should be fine and even then it’s pretty basic.
@@firesideweekenders just to give you an update: I did it!! Your video is a game changer!!! I did not understand a single thing on the actual paper instructions, so I just kept replaying your video for each step. Thank you so much!
I never used the knobs. We replaced it before our first trip. It would definitely help with that I would assume since the unit won’t be running so much.
@@uscggreene187 yeah it cools down fast. So it should be able to stay off for a decent amount of time to prevent it. Even more if you seal up some of the gaps.
We don’t have the heat option but they say it helps take the chill out of the air and maintain the camper warm but definitely should not be the main source.
Hey riccardo. So even though it has an integrated thermostat, does it actually output anything different then the (full on/full off). In other words does the output change or vary? Make less noise? Or does it just turn on by itself and go on its max output until it reaches your desired temp?
Oh yea, absolutely. You can set the temperature and it will turn the whole unit on and off. until it reaches temperature. I would say it makes less noise because it doesn't run 100%. of the time lol, only as needed unlike the current set up.
Not too familiar with inverters and what they can handle. What I do know is that you will most likely need to install a soft start if you are going to run it on inverter.

We have the exact same camper and are struggling with freezing the AC coils when it's hot and humid. Would this upgrade help to solve that problem since it has a specific set point when using the auto function?
I can’t say definitely if it will prevent it because we have only used it 4-5 times. But I do think it can certainly prevent it more times than not because of the reason you mentioned. Obviously the hotter it is the more likely it will happen but we just camped in 90 degree weather and it kept the inside cool very nicely and didn’t run 24/6.
It should prevent that if you try to maintain a delta-T of 20 degrees. Very difficult with the dial on the stock one. Problem is when it’s 100 degrees and folks crank the AC to all cold it can freeze up the unit. If it’s 100 degrees in, 80 is about the best you can get without risking a freeze up.
