  • Wet friction material is what is used on most of Caterpillar's current machine models. Wet friction materials are bathed in oil to provide cooling.
    Wet disk brakes are used in Cat® elevated sprocket track type tractors (dozers), wheel loaders, and off highway trucks.

    So it's essentially a reverse clutch?

    what are the materials used in the manufacturing of this braking system?

    Presumably the less friction on the plates themselves the better the system will work?

    Cool system. How often would the fluid need to be changed and the clutches replaced?

    So, if the brake piston ever leaked, you would over fill the differential with oil and it would begin to leak out the breather?

      They are both hydraulic oil per the video. I wouldn't see any damage mixing hydraulic oil with hydraulic oil

      Not sure about this particular setup, but i've had the same issue you mention on Spicer diffs before. Basically a failure of the brake piston seals will then allow leakage of hydraulic oil into the rest of the diff

      How does the differential work on the dup truck

      …lol
      Ya that can happen.
      Doesn’t cause too much damage

    Is it possible to use fire resistant hydraulic Fluids such as pantoflux for wet brake systems or would a seperate oil tank and pump be needed for the braking system if fire resistant fluids were used elsewhere

    does the slack adjuster physically touch the discs? or does it force oil against them?

    • @Don-rz9cg
      @Don-rz9cg 5 років тому +2

      Yes it actually pushes against the plates - specifically the externally splined spacer plates which have no friction material on them.

      Yes you will lose almost all of the hydraulic fluid and its a mess. Would rather have air drum brakes like older models
