Duane Jones really humanized the character of Ben. No one could have done it better. That monologue he had where he was talking about the diner scene still gets me to this day. Rest in peace Duane. You will always be remembered. Thank you so much for doing this GrimmLife. Happy Halloween 🎃.
I hate that scene where he survives the night before he dies because he’s mistaken for a zombie it pissed me off then and still does I was 4 and my dad and me saw it
Night of the Living Dead is one of my favorite movies. But, I would argue that 1964's "The Last Man On Earth" was the real grandfather of modern zombie movies. The book, "I am Legend," (Richard Matheson) was also the basis for the Will Smith zombie movie of the same name.
The ending to "Night of the Living Dead" makes me so sad and angry. But that was the point to the film. Duane gave such a beautiful performance that still touches the lives of so many 50+ years later.
I was 11 when I first saw Night Of The Living Dead and I remember feeling so drawn in by Ben. I felt like I was him. I felt like I was in his shoes throughout the entire film once he was introduced. He had that special affect on the audience. NOTLD is watched often in my home and on every Halloween as tribute. Thank you so much for this.
I loved this movie, it introduced me to the zombie genre, and what happened to Duane Jones character at the end was a complete WTF! moment, heroes are supposed to win and ride off into the sunset.
In horror films, anyone is fair game I suppose. Even the main characters. They thought he was a zombie, he thought they were zombies. I wonder what would have happened if he'd called out for help?
Duane Jones will always be viewed as a very memorable actor. I was six years old when Night of the Living Dead came out, so my memory of him goes way back to the beginning. Rest in peace, Mr. Jones and thanks for making the film such a classic. 👍
Oh I loved Ben, I read the book, long before I saw the movie and imagined Ben to look like he did. When they shot him I cried. Such an amazing actor with a beautiful soul ❤
@04:00 Seeing "Baby Ghoul" crouched down at Duane Jones's marker as she was wearing her black shawl and black sunglasses was both very eerie but also very "chic" at the same time.... as only "Baby Ghoul" could do😉😎
We just got into town for the convention and we didn't know that Duane Jones was buried at Westview, we've always gone to go see the mausoleum. To think a little piece of Night of the Living Dead history is right here in Georgia. Can't wait to see you guys tonight at the convention
1st acting gig? Wow. He and Romero ended up creating the pivotal archetype for what calm, cool, and collected looks like in a zombie film. Also: 🧟 🐐 ! lol
Love this movie and what it stood for during the time. He was such a great actor and he shows it in this movie as the lead actor in night of the living dead.
This movie scared the crap outta me when I was a kid! My mom was a horror freak, and I’d always have to watch these scary movies with her ALL of the good ones, and I now thank her for that! Lol I am so glad that they picked Duane for this part! RIP DUANE! Happy 🎃 Halloween!
The glasses are perfect! This was a joy! Michael remember Bill Cardille in NOTLD? He made it even scarier for me. More real. I love Romero saying zombies can't run! 💝
Wow , just let your mind roam back to when you first saw that movie !!!! It really was amazing . The movie was 10 years old by the time I got to see it and I was 12 ...still love it !
Very cool. I've never seen anyone pay respects to him before. Even though NOTLD is horror, the end broke my heart 💔 I want to make the trip to Evans City cemetery soon to see the filming locations. I'm not that far... Thanks again guys, Happy Halloween 🧡🖤🎃
My wife and I did the Weekend of the Dead in 2022, went on the filming locations tour and especially the cemetery. It was one of the highlights of my adult life.
Oh my gosh michael & Jessica you too way awesome love it love grimm life love night of living dead 60s love all zombie 🧟♂️ franchise ❤️ love u grimm keep rocking good stuff
This is so cool that you found his grave! His mom and him... He was born ten days after her! He is a true leader in this movie and changed the course of cinematic history forever! RIP to him and thank you two and Jessica for making me laugh!
About the Romero zombie films; black men always had pivotal roles, starting with Duane in Night of the Living Dead, then Ken Foree in Dawn, after that the irreplaceable Terry Alexander in Day, Tony Todd in the remake of Night of the Living Dead (1990) and finally Ving Rhames in Dawn of the Dead remake (2004). 👍🏿
Watched the video. It was nice you did one for Duane Jones❤️. Love the movie as well. I have to say . The both of you are so fun to watch when Jessica gets into character from what movie or show your doing at the time. It's a riot. Have fun in Atlanta 🎃❤️
A special man. I literally stumbled upon some of the locations from Ganja & Hess in Ossining and around Croton, Westchester. Thumbs up for Jessica's zombie impression!
You guys are fun to watch. I love this classic movie and the other vids on it you've done. And I agree with George zombie's don't run! I remember Ben telling the story of the truck stop and the truck on fire racing by with the dead all over it, great story telling.
I like How he fought for the Character Ben to be Shot in the end And he said He would not do the movie unnless the character died at the end , Amazing Actor !
Because I'm assuming Mr. Jones wanted it to be provocotive in that Did they shoot the hero Because they thought he was also a Flesh eating zombie OR did they shoot him because they seen a black man with a gun and did they even care they shot an innocent man ???
Great Video Grimmer! I'm a huge horror fan but I've never liked Zombie movies at all! but I loved this one! and the only reason is because of Duane Jones! he was so good in that part! he made it so much fun! also didn't realize he was buried in Atlanta, where I'm from! Thanks!
Such a important film for Modern American Horror/Indie film making! Duane Jones (Ben) is the heart and soul of the story (His legacy will live on forever with every generation that discover the film) ❤❤❤
you two are simply adorable 🤭 it's a shame duane departed so soon. i'm pleased to see him joined with his Mother ❣️🌹 i just started reading permanent californians: an illustrated guide to the cemeteries of california... so rich in history and notable individuals. grrreat video, as always ✨
I saw the movie and was fascinated by the idea of George Ramiro created cannibal eating zombie 🧟♂️ people. I am 56 and a big fan of classic horror movies
I actually liked HIS character MORE in the ORIGINAL Than Tony Todd's in the 1990 remake. I really liked him in it, but I liked Duane Jones portrayal of 'Ben,' MORE.
George Romero will forever have my respect; in the 1960s there were hardly any directors or movie producers who would even consider having an African American as a lead in their films. Sydney Poitier (and maybe Harry Belafonte) were the only ones who were bonafide stars in 1967-68. In an interview when Romero was asked about choosing Duane Jones all he said was that "he did the best job in the audition." Simple as that. That he thought that way, and back then, is a tribute to him beyond words.
I've watched so very many videos you grimms have posted, of all of them this one right here is my favorite. Two words zombie jess!!! The interaction between the two of you is absolutely beautiful, Happy Halloween 🦇
I love all your guys videos but I'm so stressed out when I get to the end of your video cuz I just hope in my heart it goes on longer like your videos are very convenient at 10:15-20 minutes but I love I love love love You're longer videos I could watch you guys for hours on end your content you just do videos great and uniquely and that's what I want to watch if I got to watch anything I love you guys
Im 65 years old and can remember my parents taking us to the drive in to see this movie. I have 2 sisters and three brothers. We were scare out of minds. Cemeteries were off limits. May my mom and dad both rip along with mr. Jones. ❤😢
"I oughtta drag you out there and FEED you to those things!" Ben didn't f around, yo. Love Duane Jones and this movie. Might have to check out some of his other stuff.
Yo? Lol nice. And he was a good actor, as was the dic father that wouldn't come out of the basement...although, he ended up actually being right and should of stayed down there.
There's a HD version of this movie for free on youtube that is in color. If you havent seen it yet, check it out. It wasn't as bad as I thought it would be regarding taking away the original ambiance of the black and white.
Out freaking standing! That is one of my all-time favorite horror movies. When I saw that as a kid it scared the crap out of me! Glad to see you guys made it back down to my nick of the woods again. I'm pretty sure you guys have done a video on Oakland cemetery but I would love to see you go back again. Anyway great job thanks for sharing.
A fantastic actor. And kudos to Mr. Romero for portraying a black man as the protagonist and hero of the film. He doesn't get the acclaim of Sidney Poitier, but he added so much to that film. Without him, I don't think it would be the important film it is.
They started eating brains specifically in The Return Of The Living Dead part 2..…. All the other movies the zombies just ate you... Director Dan O'Bannon
I'm not sure what's better the beautifully filmed location, the way you present / line up the facts or how perfect you both work together lol. But cheers 🍻 for another fun upload 👍
the movie scared the crap out of my mom. and one of my junior high school teachers. i myself was never scared of the films. however when seeing Dawn of the Dead ,I was afraid of the staircase walking up to the movie theater .
Duane Jones really humanized the character of Ben. No one could have done it better. That monologue he had where he was talking about the diner scene still gets me to this day. Rest in peace Duane. You will always be remembered. Thank you so much for doing this GrimmLife. Happy Halloween 🎃.
So true! When he describes the truck on fire racing past with dead hanging off... no need for special effects with this kind of story telling.
Romero picked him for that lead because he was the best actor of the group. Later his race became a discussion and deeper layer to the movie.
I hate that scene where he survives the night before he dies because he’s mistaken for a zombie it pissed me off then and still does I was 4 and my dad and me saw it
Yes!
@@lisajoyce6803 WOW‼️‼️ really 🤣🤣
You can't have The walking dead we have today without that movie. What a great movie, and an amazing actor! ✌️
Night of the Living Dead is one of my favorite movies. But, I would argue that 1964's "The Last Man On Earth" was the real grandfather of modern zombie movies. The book, "I am Legend," (Richard Matheson) was also the basis for the Will Smith zombie movie of the same name.
Shoot the horror movies we see today wouldn't be around. If it wasn't for that movie it took horror to a whole nother level
@@ladynikkie definitely!
The ending to "Night of the Living Dead" makes me so sad and angry. But that was the point to the film. Duane gave such a beautiful performance that still touches the lives of so many 50+ years later.
True. It was sad. At least in the remake he gets shot after turning into a zombie which is a better ending him
Exist alternative ending were Ben not dead
Still my favorite of the zombie genre. Duane Jones gave a great, memorable performance.
Thanks!

Hell yeah
Oh I loved Ben, I read the book, long before I saw the movie and imagined Ben to look like he did. When they shot him I cried. Such an amazing actor with a beautiful soul ❤
