Non-Weapon Proficiencies were originally introduced in the AD&D 1st Ed Oriental Adventures. They were then included in the AD&D 1st Ed books Dungeoneer's Survival Guide and Wilderness Survival Guide. In both cases they worked exactly the same as they would in 2nd ed.
I knew about the Wilderness Survival Guide, but not the other books. Thanks.
Awesome! Very clear explanation. I've been following your D&D content, a suscribed because of how clear it is. I'm a DM that's on the verge of switching to AD&D 2e from 5e with my whole table, so this content is very useful to us
Thanks! Second Edition AD&D has its flaws but there is a ton of material for the system, especially campaign settings.
I am going to do a series of videos on how magic works in 2e, so hopefully you find those useful. Glad to help, and thanks again.
Legend has it, that old grognard isn’t even that old.
This is true. I'm Old Grognard, not Ancient Grognard.
Cool, I skipped this edition but it sounds like I would have liked it.
I like how the difficulty level is determined in an intuitive fashion, and that you don't waste time rolling for routine tasks.
Do you think AD&D is still worth running outside of using premade materials? Maybe a video about pros and cons vs 5e ?
The pros of ADnD 2nd you want to factor in a realistic setting using mathematics like in real life you fail or pass the problem of everyday life stuff that happens to you it just makes life hard
the con of ADnD 2nd just because you are level 20 doesn’t mean you can die by a level 1 baby goblin
The pros of ADnD 5e your basically a hero out the gate fantasy and spells over rules logic and reasoning if you really want to be Superman you can easy and when you hit level 20 if you build creatures correctly you are basically god unless the dm say otherwise.
The con of dnd 5e your players basically go on autopilot mode and get carried in the campaign they don’t have to role-play a heavy and just have a good time
Explaining the difference in ADnD
2nd vs 5e as a DM.
Adnd 2nd edition you did 4 years of high school
DnD 5e. You drop out of high school to get your GED and skip the 4 years of school learning and reading
Keep in mind you can use both as a homebrew to create mechanics for your game it’s amazing but playing both from its just core rulebook both are a hit or miss
This depends on who is running it and who is playing. I definitely think that if you get a chance to play 2e with an established group it would be worth it just to see if you like the system or not.
Nice video, however I have some doubts about it. What if, for instance, someone who doesn't have the Juggle proficiency wants to try it out? They can't or they'll fail automatically? I've read this chapter from the PHB twice and I haven't seen a clear explanation about this.
I am trying to figure out how to add non weapon proficiencies into Castles and Crusades. I have a way I like so far but always feel I could do better.
Cool. I didn't know that.
Did it make any sense?
