- I ran down the street to make a couple of contacts myself on winter field day out of the back of my truck. I have videos on the Xiegu G90 and the Chameleon P-loop on my channel if you are interested.

I too use the g90 for portable hooked to my WRC mini 213” whip.
Very easy radio to work. Great video as always Eric.

Nothing says portable radio ops like a F250 Ford diesel truck, lol.
$500 antenna...good Lord. Sure would buy a lot of wire. And people laugh and say you can't do QRP on Field Day, well 20 watts is close enough. All about patience. Good video! Had a blast with 6 watts and a wire on FD. Of course I had to sit in the truck since it was 31 degrees. LOL
A wire antenna isn't as easy to setup as the loop but with the wire you can sit in the truck and not have to play around with tuning.
I just ordered the MPAS 2.0 yesterday from martin Lynch in the U.K , of course it's out of stock..... but anyway, this will also allow me operate portable without having to adjust for every band unlike now with the Super Antenna MP1 which is a very good antenna but needs retuning for each band and that can be a pain if you are inside, it's not so bad when operating outside.
The MPAS will be easier set up than my wire antennas when I don't want to have to mess with trees or where there are no trees or when I visit relatives, holidays etc. Chances are I'll have some bit of ground to stick the ground spike in a lot more than I'd have space and trees for a wire antenna, even getting the 12m Spiderbeam up can be a pain in the ass.
I am really interested in the loops they perform well for their size but I wanted something I can use with the FT-891 @ 100 watts and the MPAS 2.0 fits the bill nicely, just can't wait to try it out + it includes a wire antenna for when there is space.
A loop is really easy to setup though, sit it on a tripod or table, tune and you're ready to go.
Tough conditions there for “winter” field day.

I bought the same antenna after watching your video. It really is easy to tune. I have the Xiegu G90 as well. Thank you for a concise and practical demo.
Awesome as always. You folks are loud and clear here in Northern VT! -KC1LUX
Awesome truck Eric….
Thanks for working through the tough conditions and posting the video! Sharp truck!!!
Field day in January in Florida; You need a shade...
Field day in January in Ankara; Let's scrape the ice from the antenna first, and bring those heaters closer before the rig is frozen too....
I love your truck! Very nice! We can't buy them in the UK, the Ranger is the biggest we can buy.
Michigan to Florida is about 1300 miles. That's super awesome
Not bad for 20 watts on a band full of contestors huh?
HamRadioConcepts It because of those contesters that you made the Contact, any other day the bands would be ‘Dead’.
@@caulktel Yup and I continue to receive emails that tell me to put a sock in my mouth that I am using old clips when the solar cycle was better. I just cant believe it. But now, at 3:07pm EST get on the bands there is hardly anyone now, it ended at 2pm
HamRadioConcepts You should start holding up a copy of a recent newspaper's front page in these videos to "prove" it's a current clip. LoL 😁
HamRadioConcepts I’m getting back on the air after over 20 years away and from what I can tell, the bands here in VK / .au are quiet, but working. It’s just not as busy as it used t be.
Reverse beacon and WSPR stuff indicate openings that are there, but there’s simply no traffic
Certainly here in Aus, I’ve spoken to a lot of hams on 11m 27MHz CB or Chook Band (in Aus we call chickens chooks) and that has been quite active at times with openings across the country and across the Tasman to New Zealand while 10m isn’t dead, but unoccupied.
They hang around 11m because it’s active and everyone tends to congregate around 35 27.355MHz LSB and 38 27.385 LSB.
That said, the _quality_ of contacts in an essentially unregulated public space is, shall we say, _varied_ :-)
One last point. The tuned loop antenna is such a great idea. I’ve made a few from left over RG6 pinned on timber frames. For the tuning capacitor I use a small stub of RG6 coax. If I’m careful, I can punch 50W or so into it without it going all Nichola Tesla on me. To change bands, I swap out the coax stub, but they are so easy and cheap to make that you can make one for each band if you want. The longer the loop, and the smaller the capacitance, the more efficient they are. So I found that a stub length of 4-6” max works consistently well, and at 20m the loop is only 3m or so wide
Cute little rig, I will have to check it out, the audio sounded great for such a small radio...thanks for sharing...Vic
nice to see the g90 n the loop working ,.tohether,.... TBaD,.. ... nice truck, the 4 four door pickups have taken over, Cheers,.. 73s
Two more things for the buy list, thanks!
Nice ride Eric
I bought this antenna. Absolutely hated it, it didn’t work as good as I expected. I returned it and bought a Tarheel II and mounted that on my car. Haven’t looked back since.
Sorry, I think this antenna is one impressive loop, never failed me so far.
Wow! That is a sharp looking truck Eric. I have had my eye on the Xiegu G90 for awhile. Looks like a fun radio. I might have to look for one at HamCation. See you there!
Good vidéo ! The G90 and antenna are very nice 73 of Sullivan F4HZC
Nice setup. I have always wanted to try out a loop like that. Love the truck!
Hope things warm up for you!!!! LOL
Beautiful F250! I like it ;)
Had some nice sound on that radio. Looks like a perfect day to be out and make some QSOs. 73, de K8KNX
I won that radio from my club raffle last week, I have yet to power it....i still need to get my HF antenna up!
nice... i had previous commitments this weekend, glad you had fun. i heard the locals here (N4DAB) had a fair number too from one of the local parks. hope to see you at orlando in a couple.... WX4CB
Nice one, Eric. I also have a G90 and will be using it for the first time in our John Moyle Field Day in March.

THE BANDS R DEAD :-)
Great video, could you let me know the spec of that battery you are running please...👍
Bioenno LifePO4 12Ah
Watch out for the Gators!!! Please.....
Have you tried it with WSPR? I'd be interested to see how stable in frequency it is...
What are you using to power the g90? Looks like a bioenno battery but I can’t tell the rating. How about doing a video on power supplies for portable radios?
I don't do field day, so I really don't understand two letters involved in the locations. Could you please explain to me what that's about so I won't be ignorant about it.
first number is the number of operators, second one is station type: O = outdoor, H = home etc then there's the zone SFL is south florida i'm in NFL - north florida etc
@@WX4CB I was wondering the same thing. Thanks for answering!
Does that radio not have a noise blanker? Sounds like you had interference coming through your audio. I do like the concept of this radio but I feel it needs more refinement.
The G90 has a NB but not a very good one, it can't for instance reduce or eliminate the clicking from electric fences all around me, the FT-891 completely eliminates it. The G90 has no form of Noise Reduction but the sound quality is very good. It's a good radio I use mainly for JS8 Call, the tuner is pretty good also. The FT-891 has no tuner but has 100 watts and amazing noise reduction even way better than on my IC-7300. The G90 is also similar size to the 100 watt FT-891.
Any thoughts on how that antenna would work on a high rise balcony? I have concrete above and below me. Really missing HF.

why don't you ever use a power mike ?
What are the battery packs? Kind and name brand
Dude, you seriously need to stop it with these videos... The bands are DEAD! So, like, staaahhhp! ;)
Hoping to get my Tech ticket soon. 73
Aaron M nope. There’s way more coming. Just unsubscribe
Damn... Wow... I was just joking...
What battery pack are you using?
FLPete Bioenno LifePO4 12Ah
HamRadioConcepts Thanks. Taking my General at Hamcation and really want to get into QRP so have been looking at this radio. Also looking at iCom 705 but not sure how long I will have to wait for that to be readily available.
Great video. Thanks for sharing! Va3bgw.
