Why Doesn't NASA Launch Trash Into the Sun
Вставка
- Опубліковано 24 бер 2020
- We have a major trash problem here on Earth, I mean, have you seen those pictures of "Trash island"? If we don't do something soon, trash could become a serious problem for every single person on the planet. Why not just shoot the trash into space, or better yet, send all that garbage straight into the sun. That'll teach it. And while that sounds like a plausible solution to our waste management problem, once you look at the logistics you realize it's insanely expensive to launch trash into space, let alone reach the sun!

“Garbage is a matter of perception”

"One man's trash is another man's treasure"
What garbage is, is a matter of how something is perceived. An object that has no cause is trash, but also one that has cause, but no capability. "Trash" is a complicated matter.
😄😄😄
That's why they should send all humans towards the sun
World: *needs to get rid of trash*

@Hugh Jassel How about launching every single conservative, with their hatred for people they disagree with, right into sun? World for sure would become a way better place.

Then we drown in garbage as the earth slowy rots away knowing an useless paper object kept the human race from saving it
But nah, we're broke...
Why not take the trash to the moon instead? Not as far as to the sun and certainly by far much less expensive.

The title is ‘Why Doesn’t NASA Launch Trash Into The Sun’
Here’s the answer- Big money and speed
3:48 "star at the center of our universe" why did he call our solar system the universe? I genuinely hope he doesn't think that our solar system is the entire universe.
Quite the distinctive difference betwixt a Galaxy and the rest of the Universe
He doesn't
"Our" it's important to emphasize the "OUR" means the star we are familiar with. The one we see each day and that "our" planet's resources demand on it
If that's the case he might think the earth is flat as well
The universe is infinite, everywhere is the center.
Answer: because the sun roasts them back to earth.
Then throw it on the backside so it goes to the other side

The easiest way to send something into the Sun is to get a gravity assist from Jupiter first. That was actually one of the earlier designs of a Parker Solar Probe like mission.
This is literally one of the first questions I remember asking my parents when I was younger
When I worked in the aerospace industry decades ago there was some talk about sending our nuclear waste into the sun or deep space. Not a bad idea but right after that the Challenger exploded and that was the end of that discussion!
Have a wonderful day/night friends!

3:49 “even though the star at the center of our universe exerts...” I think you meant solar system
ignoring the cost part or even the logistics part....
Why the sun?
Wouldn't we, if we could do this, send all the trash to like, Jupiter? It's big enough that we could dump 100% of all the trash we'd ever make and never even make a dent. Angular momentum gibberish would mean it would take less energy to go to Jupiter than the Sun. It's the best solution until Jupiterians come attacking us
Why would the world even worry about money to this point it’s a situation of life or death later on. Just make it free like It will only help you to make human kind survive longer. space elevator: let me introduce myself
Not gonna lie I stopped at 2:53 it was just too painful to watch, the amount of money it costs to send massive amounts of anything into space was way to much for my brain that wants to go to space to handle.
This is one of the first times I've felt completely lost while watching a video like this 😂😂
before even watching the vid i can say
1 to expensive
2 littering space is bad because it will just linger around earth and make more trouble than its worth

do you agree.....
No lol
1:25
268million
It says 68 million though
Yes! First thing I noticed!
Video: too many difficulties launching trash into the sun
Me: Why not just launch our trash into Venus or Mercury instead?
lol
The trash will not be destroyed, and there is the possibility of it going back to space since such planet usually not have an atmosphere. Such trash in space might destroy satelite and other space exploration down the line. Imagine a multibillion space-telescope camera lens been covered by a banana peel or a molten milk bottle lol. That would be hilarious
The governor in my city once planned to dig a very deep (and big) hole so that all the trash collected in my city would be thrown there. When the hole is full they would bury the whole with all the collected trash on it and make another one but the disadvantages of it is:
1. it will cost a lot of money
2. it would cause a major environmental damage (because the city where I live is a small island)
3. it would take years to complete one
because...
then you can't recycle it afterwards lol
Problem: we have to much trash
Fix problem: RECYCLE and COMPOST EVERYTHING
Only issue is that we can’t. We can’t recycle or compost certain types of plastic, and we’re forced the throw it out.
Domestic. Recycling. Capacity.
^ we need to work on this ^
3:48 The star at the center of our universe

4:55 I guess I am a scientist due to my to Physics class 🧐
I thought of this when I was a kid, thanks for answering why this wasn't a possibility.
Because the energy spent trying to carry any payload of waste into the sun would pollute more than the waste itself. Simple as that.

There's a third issue, we don't have unlimited material on Earth, if we kept doing the equivalent of deleting our trash we will eventually run out of materials on Earth and there would be nothing left but some stone and whatever is left over of society.

Believe me.
In Sweden we use our trash for fuel and to heat our houses. We literally buy trash from other countries and use it.
The only reason why they wont launch trash into the sun is because I don't want to go to the sun, I'll die
Throwing away my broken PS2

well i guess i have to give up my dream of standing on the sun making America proud
In a perfect world where not only money ends up to not be real and is entirely a made up human contraption, but we actually work together for the sake of the planet during these crucial times...
Money is a made up human contraption. There's too many who won't accept that though.
Active volcano + giant conveyor belt = Nature’s trash incinerator.
I thought once the sun stars creating iron, it's only a matter of time before it eventually dies. And with all the elements of the atoms that make up the trash that would be thrown at the sun, wouldn't that be a bad idea to begin with, since eventually those elements would fuse to form heavier elements including iron? You would be accelerating the death of the sun.
What would be even worse than this dumb project even somehow succeeding is if you accidentally put something in your space trash that you really wish you hadn’t - e.g. your pet.
People who play Kerbal Space Program:
*Now this looks like a job for me*
polluting land and the oceans: oh no

In a few words, it may be even be cheaper to find a way to desintegrate trash or find new solutions that are eco friendly.
People at nasa: Let’s lunch trash at the sun!
World simulator: *warning* mr beast style funding required
There is a possible way. 1st you would have to build a space elevator, which, granted, are extremely expensive. However, a space elevator can be used for more than just trash. It can be used to send people and cargo anywhere in the Solar System we are wanting to go. Once it's up and running, it would be very cheap to operate. The trash would go up on the space elevator and when it reaches the top, it is scooped up by a device I can only describe as, a rotating slingshot. When released at the exact time and position, it can launch the trash, cargo, people, etc. to which ever direction is intended for them to go.
It would be a very difficult and expensive project to undertake, but it is feasible.
At least the price tag isn't in the quadrillions.
Incredibly expensive and resources crazy. Best solution is what is mostly done, build deep landfills and compost it.
Develop nano machines that break down garbage. All can be re-used when broken down and separated according to their corresponding atomic groups. Sending it to the sun would just speed up the resource depletion of the planet.
Imagine if out of 102 attempts, 5 attempts fail. You'll literally get a trash shower globally. There's just no safety net in place. Now imagine if it was toxic trash or radioactive.
That part when he roasted ps4 I felt that
This idea has been in my head for years...
If you do a flyby of Jupiter you could use its velocity to throw you into the sun, or eliminate a step and just threw out the trash directly into Jupiter.
I actually think about the trash everyday and ive already started dedicating my life to it.
Everyone’s always saying we got too much trash. In my city we have a steam power plant, that uses TRASH AS FUEL. If every city built just 1, trash will be gone and there will be very cheap power. I see this as almost the only feasible way for a developing country to stop polluting, and make electricity available for most everyone that needs it.
