Vernon Reid is a legend and doesn't get enough props.
Amen.
Damn right!
Exactly
definitely one of the greatest guitarist of all time fs
And Vernon Also Wrote The Song.🎶🎵🎶🎶🎵🎶
A "Cult of Personality" refers to a charismatic individual who has the ability to motivate/sway/persuade people by the sheer force of their personality alone. It does not matter if what they are saying is rooted in reason or reality. They can make you believe whatever they want you to ("I tell you one and one makes three"). Not only that, people will follow such an individual regardless of how they are manipulated by such a leader ("I exploit you, still you love me..."). It is an admonishment to not fall victim to the cult of personality but to take personal responsibility for the content of your own mind ("only you can set you free!")
This is the best explanation II have seen of "Cult of Personality". Thanks for explaining it so clearly. I tried a few times but your explanation is so much better.
Can anyone think of a contemporary example(?)🤔
At the time Ronald Reagan
Pretty sure he meant contemporary to us, now.
This is one of the most amazing pieces of rock 'n' roll ever. There should be a college course on just this song and video.
Vernon was such a f’n beast on that guitar. Corey could sing his ass off in the 90’s. He held a note for what seemed like 3 mins at a live show. Loved these guys.
Wow I'm just blown away by the young folks today just discovered this group I bought the album when it came out
yes, over 30 years ago
Saw these guys in Tampa in 89 . Great show .
Nice reaction. The guitarist Vernon Reid has worked with MANY artists since Living Color and is considered one of the greatest guitarists of all time.
He'd get that title from the soloing in this song alone even if he hadn't worked with so many other people! The guitar in this song is absolute fire.
You both are high. The solo was sloppy and never has anyone mentioned his name as one of the greatest guitarists of all time. You two play?
@@Tomekkplk 27 people agree. Go away.
@@Tomekkplk the solo is meant to be “sloppy”. It’s chaos like the rest of the song and the meaning behind the lyrics. It’s a work of pure genius. I’ll take Vernon playing with passion of EVH playing with technique and zero emotion any day of the week and twice on Sunday.
Rolling Stone put him at #66 of the 100 greatest guitarists so you are wrong to say no one mentioned him. I’d put him higher than that. He’s definitely in my top 10 favorites for sure.
@@Tomekkplk the solo was meant to be chaotic, and raw with emotion. Calling his playing sloppy is incorrect.
And yes I play. Seems like if you did, you would have understood what he was going for here.
Whats your next criticism Hendrix version of the star spangled banner didn't sound like the Mormon tabernacle choir? And Rolling Stone ranked him the 66th greatest guitar player back in 2003(not that I care what they think) but he is on the list and in many people's conversation.
One of the best songs of the era...or any era.
I like your reactions. This was the jam back in the day. It got good rotation on MTV and I loved it. Vernon on that guitar 🎸 👏👏🙂🇺🇸🏳️🌈
I suggest listening to other songs by them as well, like :
Funny Vibe
Pride
Leave It Alone
Auslander
Love Rears It's Ugly Head
Elvis Is Dead
Type
Solace of You
Middle Man
Open Letter (To a Landord)
Glamour Boys
Living colour true G.O.A.T.S 6 albums in and still rocking
This song is probably more relevant today than it was back when it was released... great piece of guitar work from a very underrated guitarist, Vernon Reid
This is a good era to be an aging metalhead. Back in 1988, we got to experience this band for the first time, and now we get to experience them again for the "first time" (vicariously) through other people. All of us white metal dudes back in the day loved bands like this (& Fishbone and 24/7 Spyz and other funkified rock bands, or King's X) because they went so hard, just like metal bands. We considered this "metal," whether or not anyone else did. And anything that broadened our favorite genre of music, we liked. We felt like we wanted to tell people, "see? this is how metal can be; it's not limited to what you think it is." So anyway, yeah, it's fun, seeing so many people appreciating something from a genre that was sometimes regarded as the bottom of the musical bin, back in the day.
It's Metal to me too!
80s were a great time to be a teenager.
word
@@Briansgate yes they were!
Great reaction. This band deserved to be much bigger than they were. If you want to hear them at their most soulful, check out Love Rears It's Ugly Head, but if you want another banger, try Type.
I've seen them live when they opened for the The Rolling Stones back in the day. Same energy as in that video. They put on a great show (obviously, if The Rolling Stones were bringing them on tour).
Saw the same tour and as much as I love the "Stones", I actually went to see Living Colour.
I been rockin' for 45 years, but Reid's guitar solo is one of the wildest, bombastic and fastest ones I've ever heard to this day--Like a buncha wild animals fighting in a cage!!
He's very, very underrated! He deserves the respect and recognition as a Guitar Great of All Time!
Yeah exactly. They're like chaotic animalistic whirlwinds. Its not supposed to be melodic. But it is expressive. His riffs are also really, really good.
Same song but like 25 years after the fact. It's Living Colour on Howard Stern, it's amazing
Extremely relevant to today. It’s about the dangers of hero worship, and blindly following anything or anybody.
They shocked the crap out of the rock and rollers. They are from bed sty and they're black.
Oh Wow! I was absolutely obsessed with this group in my younger years. I need to get back to listening to them. Great reaction.
"YOU play that guitar, BOOYEEEE"! 😄👏👏👏
Just as amazing today as it was back then.. never get enough of this song
You got to look up the arsenio Hall performance of this if you haven't already, it's so damn good
Great band, I saw them live. This song fits Trump to a T.
one of my fav bands, ever -- Vernon Reid OMFG soooo good
One of my favorites of all time! People are always amazed at the ‘Blue eyed soul’ folks and I was a kid learning this was an all black hard rock band and I was addicted! Great music has no color!
cant hear dis witout imaginin CM Punk walking out
Please do open LETTER to a LANDLORD
This song was so ahead of its time. Think of the enigmatic, charismatic leaders that we’ve had, the people who have an army of blind followers who will burn everything if told to. “You gave me fortune, you gave me fame, you gave me power in your gods name, I’m every person you need to be…” Who does that sound like? Maybe a certain former president whose fame and fortune and status only grew after his legion of conservative supporters made him this god like figure in the eyes of their party.
You should check out the song "Loves Rears its Ugly Head" by Living Colour
this song is mind blowing 2022
Vernon is money, check out another guitar hero Stevie Ray Vaughan and Double Trouble. Songs are Voodoo Childe, and Texas Flood to starr.
Omg you're KILLING me. I hope your doing your thing
living Colours are the most underrated band of power rock&roll of Humanity
The basic idea in the song is how people give the power to people good or bad. Stalin who killed millions and he is given Gandi as his counter. The point about MKL was a great leader if he really speaks for good you die. An Evil leader like Stalin will often live, but good is often killed. The bad people the vast majority of politicians are like that. They tell the masses 1+1=3. They agree and in turn give power to those saying it. Even if it is wrong those leaders know how far they can push it.
Oh wow I didn't think of it like that!🤭 That's definitely a different way to see it! Thanks for this!🙏🏽
Another good one from Living Colour is "Type"
Really nice reaction and I loved your whole presentation. Living Colour never really achieved the level of fame they deserved. Musicianship, lyrics, tunes, prescience they had it all (actually still around but this video is 40 years old) they truly had it all. Maybe ahead of their time. This song is a true classic and it was great to get to see your first reaction to it.
love your reaction
Thank you sm!🙏🏽
It's a banger!!!! Love it!!!
Hahaha!!! Your head popped?... girl you don't know what's coming
My hip pop🤣🤣🤣.... You're something else!!!... Living Colour an all Black ensemble kick booty with their frenetic high tempo style. Love them. Rock on. .Right on....
They were just picking up where Jimmy Hendrix left off. Hendrix picked up where Chick Berry left off.
I love that song so much they just ROCKED!
NO WHITE BAND COULD PLAY LIKE THIS! + VERNON REID ... who need a more capable instrumentalist? .... it Is like driving a car at 300 milesiles
If you get a ROLLING CHAIR YOU can dance around the room when you do MORE LIVING COULOR' 😉😂😂👌👌
Vernon Reid IS the most underrated guitar player!!
Cm punk
Vernon Reid is a great guitarist,, a shredding monster! The man is highly appreciated by Eddie Van Halen, Trevor Rabin, Pete Townshend and Keith Richard's. Kick ass hard rock band from the 80s,,, life was soooo much better then!!!
Loved this reaction ...you know they were ahead of thier time it was the eighties girly style for guys was common if that song came out today it would still be a hit they were way too good
You are right about the song being a hit today. It is timeless.
Would love to see you react to Poets of the Fall - Carnival of Rust (their most well known song and the music video got voted as the best Finnish music video ever back in 2006 when the song was released). Truly an underrated band from here in Finland. Also a band with many different sounds all the way from slow melodic songs to full on rock.
Although if you want to immediately hear a song that showcases how crazy good the lead singer Marko Saaresto's voice can be (and while his vocal range might not be the most dynamic out there he is an amazing example of what you can achieve by having absolutely perfect control of your vocals especially the raw emotion that his voice is able to convey) then i recommend listening to their song Daze. His vocals on the chorus are something out of this world.
I just think that so many more people would love their music if they just ever heard them but since their from Finland it rarely happens. Although many have heard their songs in Remedy's video games Max Payne 2, Alan Wake, Quantum Brake and Control
(Also every single reactor i have seen reacting to them has been pretty much blown away by their music so i'm very confident you'll like it)
also... also... lot's of deep and meaningful lyrics and wordplay in their songs
sorry for the long rant i just really want more people to know about them :D
Thank you for this! I'll keep them in mind along the road! I appreciate your time in watching the video😇🙏🏽
4 black HARD ROCK dudes ...in a GUITAR ROCK band....just killin' it. Oh we need more...oh how we need more.
Go listen to The Bad Brains
These guys are legends
Hi.. I think this Band formed by the,, Bad Brains,,, a early punk band.. Check out :big take over live CBGB Studio sound... 🎸Or some german Stuff:NullPositiv - wo Rauch ist, ist auch Feuer,, (Grat female voice.. Enjoy
The opening was from Malcom X's speech "Message to the Grass Roots". The title was penned by Nikita Khrushchev in response to Joseph Stalin "On the Cult of Personality and Its Consequences". Other historical figures seen and heard in this video include JFK, FDR, MLK, Benito Mussolini, and Mahatma Gandhi. According to Vernon Reid, "a famous German" was originally also in the lyrics but was pulled due to fear that referring to him would be misconstrued and too controversial.
Yes, Vernon Ried can actually do that shit !
Very accomplished Jazz guitarist
Just told my son who actually PLAYS guitar like this.. “Man… why do all the GREAT ONES like you and this girl have all the skills and charisma only make a few videos then stop!?” Lol That means.. please continue to make videos. You were made for this.
Plz react to K-os . Superstar Part Zero, Crucial, Heaven only knows, Dog is Mine are all good selections. Oh and Emcee Murder also good.
Good to see a fresh generation appreciating Living Colour. Loved the original line-up with Muzz Skillings. First two albums were incredible. Stain took a few more listens to fall in love with, was a lot more metal.. Doug replacing Muzz took the band in another direction + it didn't really do it for me and I lost interest. Still an amazing band, just didn't talk to my soul anymore.
You ask for suggestions I have one that I will give you. This is from a movie sound track. The movie was released in 1966 in Europe, then in 1966 in the U.S. The composer of the music is Ennio Morricone, he is an Italian man who is known for some of the most amazing film scores in history. The piece of music is covered by the Danish National Symphony Orchestra, it is 2 major pieces from the movie. It is the opening theme and Ecstasy of Gold scene. I can assure that this will grab your heart and soul, and cause you to feel things unimaginable emotionally, in a good way of course, that being said he is the YT link for the music. ua-cam.com/video/enuOArEfqGo/v-deo.html I look forward to seeing you react to this, and thank you in advance.
CM Punk's theme song
Vernon Reid was so underrated its a crime! Im a hard metalhead. In my book Vernon is up there with any heavy metal guitarist. Is he Randy Rhoads or Dimebag Darrell? No. He's Vernon Reid. Its like comparing a Ferrari to a Lamborghini. Both are bad ass in their own right. And other than the Lambo spontaneously bursting into flames at a red light, I like them both.
Listen to todays' music. Or listen to what your elders sung. We cared about people, the gov't been lying to y'all.
As he said, the choice is yours, on what you do with your life.
you might like europe finale countdown with swedish boys
Vernon Reid's guitar solos on Vivid are very chaotic and expressive. Not very melodic but messy in a cool way.
Why is it always a surprise when they turn out to be a black rock group. Music shouldn't have a color unless it's Living Color.
You should check out sevendust! Another black man with an awesome voice with an awesome band behind him being down some badass f****** grooves
Excellent reaction!!! So happy you appreciate these great artists. ❤
Its kind of similar to Van Halen but with a uniquely afroamerican feel and identity in the same way System of a Down has a very armenian identity. The album Vivid really doesn't have a bad song on it.
It's pretty cool seeing a song from my teenage years still be relevant now and probably even more so given how much easier the cults of personality can be spread over social media. It being a banger of a song makes it even better. :)
Check out "Type", by "Living Color" !
Love to watch young black people reacting to living colour lol
I'm new to you but I loved to see your facial reaction to those guys. There are numerous other bands out here that I promise you'll appreciate the same.
The man...the legend....Mr. VERNON REID.
te busque solo porque ,queria tu reaccion A que te parecia escuchar a living coulors
Literally the first CD I ever heard. Eye opening on so many levels.
I still remember when this video debuted on Headbangers Ball just around midnight late night on MTV. It was stunning and unprecedented to see POC, putting this out there. “Glamour Boys” was the second song I heard from them and it made me a fan after that.
Check out 24-7 Spyz heavy but with more Funk
Love to see those that just discovered Living Color!
There are other big hit was open Leonardwood landlord. Also really good song.
Take your sovereignty back. Listen to the lyrics. All the bs they tell u
The best album of the 9 tees, it was huge here in Australia. The ones you want to believe in are dead or will soon be.
Here are some videos of them performing live: "Pride - Live at the Apollo", "Living Colour - Wall (Live)" "Living Colour - Type (Live)"
Sad you never got the idea of this vid . time to go and look at the words of this song.
Heavy Metal need no colour to play it - check uo next Body Count
Lead singer is Danny Glover's son, Corey.
not often you get to see them with their pants pulled up
That whole album is killing it
The moment you realize when a past Song perfectly predicts future events in its lyrics. This ain't the Bus Boys. SD
Listen to Stevie Ray flood in texas
Fernan is such an amazing player.
Try their song Time's Up. Sadly as relevant and Cult of Personality is today.
You want to see more brothers playing different stuff? Try 24/7 spyz “Stuntman” it’s a badass funk rock tune. 🔥

I know I'm late to the wagon. Maybe you should give a listen to a group called The family stand, there's a few other black rock bands out there or bands that have black front singers between rock, metal, rock rap, Rasta core and other types of black influence rock type music. If you do live in color again ,the song Type would be a great one
