The recipes have been instrumental in keeping that film feeling alive for me. I stopped shooting film because I couldn’t afford it long term but keeping everything manual on my x100f and using these recipes gives me that ‘wow’ feeling when I finally open up my files.

I know Matt probably won't see this comment but one of the things I like about Capture One (not sure if Lightroom does this) is that when you choose "auto" as your profile with a raw photo, you get the same look at it appeared on your camera, as the starting point. Meaning that you still have the look of the recipe with the flexibility of a raw image, as the starting point.

I go through phases with my X100F of shooting Raw and shooting JPEG. Currently in a Raw phase because the Raws from this camera are just soooo good and edit soooo well; but I am eager to dive back into the JPEG recipes and simplify my process with the X100F once again. Ideally, I want to keep my X100f in JPEG for just my EDC camera, then keep my EOS R in Raw for work related shots.

I just wish Fuji had given us actual savable film type memories instead of “C1-C7”. The whole "RAW or nothing" mentality is old and outdated, stuck way back in the mid 2000s when digital DSLRs were new and in camera JPEGs did indeed suck. It changed not long after that though. Canon has been producing excellent looking JPEGs for over a decade now, and so have Sony and Fuji in more recent years. Its always funny where you see the usual UA-cam reviewers shocked how good JPEGs look on new cameras they test and post photos of because there are no RAW profiles yet. Does anyone look at those and know those were shot JPEG and not RAW just by looking at them? Of course not.
Ive been shooting professionally for 15 years, been published everywhere from Playboy and Maxim to GQ and Muscle and fitness magazines, every single photo published has been a JPEG. Never had a single complaint from an editor or an art director about the files I delivered to them. Ive experimented with RAW of course but I know my gear and Im never in situations where I need to lift 4 stops of shadows in post, which is the only major advantage RAW files have. More colors in RAW? Sure, but the viewer is never going to see that In the finished product once that RAW file has been resized and compressed. Ive done many a test on social media posting RAW and JPEG photos, no one can ever tell which photo is which. RAW is massively overrated.

First and foremost, thank you for liking me. Hahaha. I get the sentiment in what you’re saying. I use my iPhone for plenty of family snaps but in terms of getting the same end result, there’s no comparison for me. If I’m trying to make anything compelling or even just a pretty picture, I use my iPhone when it’s the last resort/only camera on me.

None of these images look like film. You paid $1000 for a glorified video still, when you could have spent 50 cents for a film still.
Want it to look like film? Shoot film.
