Fantastic Video! I had no idea there was documented OS market share back from the late 1970s, that's crazy! I hope you upload an updated one that has 2022 later this year.
Operating systems based on the Linux kernel are now the most popular in the world. Recently, they have pushed the rest of the OS and this trend continues. Over the past year, the following operating systems have been used when surfing the web: 1. Android - 44.17% 2. Windows - 28.96% 3.iOS - 17.46% 4. MacOS - 5.56% 5. Unknown - 1.92% 6. Linux - 0.92% This statistic includes desktops, tablets, mobile phones and consoles. Android is based on the Linux kernel. Thus, in total, 45.09% of the OS is used when surfing the web on the Linux kernel. iOS and MacOS are Unix-like operating systems. The latter account for 68.11% of the operating systems that are used for Internet surfing. If you look at the data only for desktop computers, we get the following picture: 1. Windows - 76.31% 2. MacOS - 14.66% 3. Unknown - 4.88% 4. Linux - 2.43% 5. Chrome OS - 1.72% 6. FreeBSD - 0.01% Chrome OS is based on the Linux kernel.
You have a typo in Linux Foundation, but very nice video! It surprised me that Linux never really had a major share, there was a time every nerd and their mom claimed to use "only operating system that can't be hacked" Linux...
The "Unknowns" come from people browsing the web from game consoles, for the most part. So they should add to the FreeBSD (Playstation) and Windows (XBox) tallies. Linux rules the Supercomputer, IOT, phone and server markets. Mainframes still have mostly some form of IBM OS (mainly z/OS) but Linux System z is catching up. Tablets, iPadOS has a slight advantage over Android but it's disappearing with more countries entering that market. So it's only the PC market (desktop/laptop) where Linux is not a contender (or the main one).
I think this video only takes data from the USA market: I can't believe OS like the ZX Spectrum and the Olivetti PCOS is not even mentioned in their time frame., unless in market where it was not commercialized.
Yeah that's why microsoft, google, meta are pay a lot of money for linux. The world can not live without linux server. That junk you talk about is far more better choice. You have freedom and system runs much faster. Don't belive me, try it yourself!
First off, Windows is not a brand. It's a product and Microsoft is the brand. Second, why are you comparing MS, which is primarily a software company, who sells Windows, to Apple which is primarily a hardware company and does not sell an OS to anyone, not even Apple customers? And Linux runs more of your world than you even know.
Windows XP is the legend.. So rapid to move up... and stayed in first place so long... Good old memories using it in office along with Gtalk..

In addition, some version of linux or a POSIX compliant OS runs the majority of web servers and database farms, too.
In 2007 windows xp crossed 85%
Legend windows xp ^_^
XP kept crashing and I couldn't wait to get rid of it. Thank goodness for Vista.

Pretty amazing that there was point, when Linux had a larger market share, than Windows (1993-1995 - not counting DOS ofc)
where is windows 11
Where is Windows 1.01,2.0,3.0,3.1,Neptune,Whistler,Server 2003,Longhorn,8.1,10X and 11
Win11=2023
how did you make this?
Where is windows 8.1
Where is CP/M? It was a very popular operating system in the 70s.

Strange Mac OS has a market share in 1983, since the first Mac was introduced in 1984

8:13 because it is until 2021
Windows 11 was released in 2022
Windows XP was the best.
wait a moment... vista looks like 7😧😧🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
CP/M was easy before MS-DOS
Linux never surpassed Mac OS, in all its versions. Didn’t know about that, I thought it was much more popular…

Hi, before Windows 95, Windows was considered MS-DOS GUI.
lol
Steve Jobs was wrong, Windows is the far superior brand. Linux who uses that junk ?
It's either team Apple or team windows or team google.
Linux is good, macOS is what’s bad
And pretty much every server is on linux, also linux isn’t even hard to use

Still can't believe as of Oct 31, 2021 that 0.17% of desktop owners are still using Vista. I wonder if there is a correlation between mental illness.
