Awesome! Glad to have another subscriber!! There will be another video up soon.. The channel has a lot of different tutorials on it.. if I remember right I created playlist to try and make it easier
Question for you. I keep hearing 6 layers but I then see after that dries people putting mache clay over the 6 layers. Looks like this really gets some thickness added. Have you ever just gone from your tape ball straight to mache clay? Seems like it would save alot of time. Can you tell me why this would not work, I am new to this.
I have tried clay straight on tape. In my experience trying it, they clay had a harder time sticking to the tape, and then when I unstuffed the pumpkin I found different spots that were way thin. So I stick with strip mache first so I know I’ll have a good base once I pull the stuffing out
This is amazing. Thank you so much. I'm trying to make a GIANT one in order to wear on my head for Halloween. I might have to bump up the amount of layers of paper though.
When my kids were little we made several paper mache pumpkins The lasted in excess of 20 years as a single parent i was unable to afford to buy pumpkins every year The inside was painted with emulsion paint and we put tea light candles inside.
since you put 5 or 6 layers, how long did it take to dry? and what conditions did it dry in? sun, wind, shade, fan, inside, outside? and how's the humidity why you live?
I'd like to know about this white liquid u use to cover the pumpkin. How do you make it?'Cause I've been trying to find on the website showed in the video but I can't. So if you could tell me how do you do it i'd appreciate! I've made the first steps but know I need to move 'cause halloween is knocking the door..
+Ricardo Pina If you are talking about the paper mache paste, you can find a tutorial at unghingeprops.com on the tutorials page under paper mache basics labeled "how to make paste and prepare paper" If your talking about the paper clay I use to cover the pumpkin in the next step you can find a video tutorial in the same place labeled "Paper Clay".. Paper mache basics is the only tutorials basic (free) members have access to
Maybe I’m missing something, but why exactly do you have to unstuff it? Wouldn’t it just be easier to leave it stuffed? Does it harm the project in some way? I know you’d have to if you wanted to carve it obviously, but I’m looking for make some uncarved, just for decor.
This is so weird because I saw the coolest large pumpkins at Lowe's, but they were $35. I was wondering how I could make one so I don't have to spend that much. I think I was bothered mostly because I remember them being a lot cheaper last year or the year before. I think they were $28 or so. I'd like to make a big skull too. Quite sure how to shape it though. Thanks for sharing!
Good luck I hope it works out well for you.. there is another pumpkin tutorial on my channel labeled 2nd generation pumpkin it’s a different style than this
If you seal it properly yes you can. I put my creations outside for the month of October each year. But it must be sealed properly. If you use a spar urethane before you paint and then again after you paint it should be sealed up to handle most weather
Sure you can skip the plastic wrap, that’s basically a release agent. And yes mache past can be made From white glue, flour, and water. There is a video in my playlist labeled mache for beginners that goes over all this, if your interested.
I like the masking tape step... I've never covered the entire pumpkin with tape but it would def. make your first layer of mache go on smoother! (especially with plastic wrap further smoothing it down) Thanks for sharing... and good to hear from you!
Well now I've seen them all - and the winner is yours. The only difficult part may be when one attempts to draw in wet paper clay and then dig it out. I might try but don't have high hopes that it will remain neat and nice.
Great video ! I did have one question... if you want to have a solid pumpkin do you have to take the stuffing out? Or do you really need to take stuffing our to get moisture out and paint it inside for protection?
I like your technique there! If I get to make some more this year I will use some of them! And yes that is a Very nice shirt as MrHalloweenFreak observed!
I have a website as well unhingedprops.com it's all about paper mache. You can join as a VIP or a basic member. Basic is free, as a basic member there are some free tutorials you have access to, which are under the basics of paper mache. Some of those videos include, how to make paste, how to make paper clay, the basic tools for mache along with some others. The VIP membership gets you access to more tutorials for other projects, and more.
+Shellbug-Michelle Greene Yes you sure can.. I have just found over time that using your hands in the paste instead of dipping the news paper, makes the layers stick together better without air trapped in between
Looking at other papier mache projects and what I recall from handicraft classes, usually each layer should dry before applying the next. Hope this helps.
You could use string it would work just fine. The reason I use tape is because it creates a little more control of the shape, and then when you cut it open to pull everything back out it also helps the inside to have a smoother finish if that makes sense
+Grace Puppykat all depends on how you look at it.. You don't have to use the plastic wrap, I use it because it helps when unstuffing. As far as tape goes usually only takes less than one roll, the tape I buy is $0.99, so i have $0.99 in tape. A roll of plastic wrap costs me $4.00 and I can get at least 20 pumpkins out of one roll of plastic wrap, so thats about $0.20 per pumpkin. Cost of tape and plastic wrap per pumpkin is $1.20. That doesn't seam to bad for pumpkins that sell for over $100.00
That’s why you pack it up and use it again next year who knows you might get 5 years out of this piece let’s look at the cup half full instead of half empty!! Positivity goes a long way 😀
So glad I found this video. They want $40.00+ for paper mache pumpkins online. Now I can do my own and any size and shape I want. Thank you!
Your welcome! I’m glad the videos have helped! Have fun creating your pumpkins
Wow my friend it’s amazing job. Now I do my pumpkins for next year. I love how it’s came out with all the papers mache….. thank you again.🙋♀️
Thank you, I'm glad the videos have been helpful
Love your video it my first time doing paper mache and you made it very easy
+Alysse Schweitzer That's great to hear! Very happy that it helped you out!
How do u make the paste .. love how u made this pumpkin but how do u make the paste ??

your making my Halloween a lot cheaper and a lot more fun!!!!! Great video!!!!!
Great to hear! Have fun creating new things for Halloween
Excellent tutorial, looking forward to Part 2!
Do we need to let each layer dry before adding another layer?
I usually add all the layers at once.. it takes longer to dry but it’s nice to get it all done at once

Very inventive & clever.
Thanks

Thank you and good luck with it!
How do you make your paste? I’ve seen a lot of different recipes online
My paste is tightbond II wood glue and water
Unhinged Productions thank you! I’m going to try and make a pumpkin head like this for a Halloween costume :)
That sounds awesome
When my kids were little we made several paper mache pumpkins
The lasted in excess of 20 years as a single parent i was unable to afford to buy pumpkins every year

is it possible to make a jack o lantern head mask with paper mache
I would say yes.
@@UnhingedProductions1 thanks man cause i'm planning a short halloween movie
This is such a great video... i hope my tutorials will be this informative for people...
since you put 5 or 6 layers, how long did it take to dry? and what conditions did it dry in? sun, wind, shade, fan, inside, outside? and how's the humidity why you live?
+GottaLive&Love It takes a little over 24 hours to dry. I usually let them dry in the house under a fan.. The humidity here is usually very high

Is your paste just flour and water?
It’s tightbond wood glue and water

I unstuff mine because I carve them. You can leave them stuffed if you wanted to
@@UnhingedProductions1 thank you for your reply. Sounds good. Just wanted to make sure I wasn’t going to mess mine up by leaving it stuffed.

i can put the pumpkin under the rain outdoor?
If you seal it properly yes you can. I put my creations outside for the month of October each year. But it must be sealed properly. If you use a spar urethane before you paint and then again after you paint it should be sealed up to handle most weather
ty really much !!!!! nice idea
How much air clay is needed for one pumpkin?
Depends on the size and what kinds of details you are doing. It can be anywhere from one batch to three.. lol. That why I make my own
Nice tutorial man!
Do I allow each layer of paper to dry or do put on 6 layers then allow it to dry?
Either way.. but most of the time I do it at once.. sometimes it easier to get a couple layers on let that dry and then go for the rest of the layers
Unhinged Productions thank you so much I can’t wait to get my 1st pumpkin started today!!
I wanted to ask it is possible to skip the plastic paper and paper mache paste can be made from white glue, Water, flour?

@@UnhingedProductions1 thanks for convinence
I always use string around my pumpkins but I like your tape technique better!
I used to use string as well, then decided to leave that step out felt like it was just a waste of time
Thank you! This should help me with decorating my house and keeping it cheap but nice!
the best thing ive ever seen
+PignatorGaming Thank you so much!! Glad you enjoyed it
Awww damn !! here we go !! might be able to finally get a mache project going thanks for sharing bro !! HFL!!
🤣🤣🤣
Like your method.
Thanks
Okay…. How you do the paste?
The paste I use is tightbond II wood glue and water

Nice tutorial, you really make it look simple. Oh and nice shirt.
Thanks
Well now I've seen them all - and the winner is yours. The only difficult part may be when one attempts to draw in wet paper clay and then dig it out. I might try but don't have high hopes that it will remain neat and nice.
+Joanne Gennarella lol yes that is the tricky part. Just remember you can come back in with a small tool and clean up all the edges
thank youfor this video. going to try and adapt for fairy ideas

Thanks Mike... There are two more Vids for this pumpkin. my computer is having problems, I'll get them up as soon as i can
i did one exactly like that but it was not a pumpking it was a cornucopita
i mean i used the same steps
+Abril Millan lol tell me, you meant to make a cornucopita
+Unhinged Productions i meant to make a conrucopia
Wouldn't a beach ball work better or possibly balloons of different sizes.
They all work great! There are other pumpkin tutorials on the channel that use balloons
What flour to water ratio do you use?
My paste is water flour and wood glue. I do a two to one ration on glue to flour, then water to thin

I like to use wire and sometimes I use the giant balloons you can get at a party supplies store.
Great tutorial!
Thanks
What’s Newspaper !?!
couldn't u did the strips of newspaper quickly thru your glue mixture instead of cupping the glue to the paper?
+Shellbug-Michelle Greene Yes you sure can.. I have just found over time that using your hands in the paste instead of dipping the news paper, makes the layers stick together better without air trapped in between
This is the best I've seen. One question I have. Do you let it dry after each layer or do you put six layers on at once? Thanks
Same question here..
Looking at other papier mache projects and what I recall from handicraft classes, usually each layer should dry before applying the next. Hope this helps.
Fantástica
For all the tape you use I'll buy a pumpkin an carve it
Sweet go for it.. however I used a roll and a half. At $0.89 a roll I’d say that not to bad, but to each their own
OR...hear me out...OR you could just tie a string around the bag instead of all that tape. The string would last longer as well.
You could use string it would work just fine. The reason I use tape is because it creates a little more control of the shape, and then when you cut it open to pull everything back out it also helps the inside to have a smoother finish if that makes sense
I would've saved them coupons
Move fun and pretty thanks
Thanks for watching

awesome
