I really like how 15V breaks down in use. Maxamet starts having trouble then it just zips thru whatever your cutting like nothing happened. The 15V doesn't do that. It takes a great edge holds that edge for awhile, and it's predictable in how it gradually blunts. And it's slower than snails to blunt that stuff. Very proud to own mine.
Boss, this one fell into my lap at the perfect time and I got it. In Canada I'm not trying to buy from US and have it seized, already had it happen, maybe they have alert when they scan my stuff. So went into my local place where they know me at lunch. It was random, I haven't been there for long time. Avoiding buying stuff with other expenses and I'm happy with my herd. But here guy shows it to me, saying it's last one. I didn't even see it on display when I scoped everything. Price was right, my first manix too. Feels badass with your touch on it. Nice color, gives me a work pants kinda feel, and the model... just triple B material. BIG thanks brother.
What store in Canada? I live Ontario so hard to find only S N R knives got a few but went so fast and also I have had knives sezzed by Canada post at the border!!
So I’d like to put forth my two cents, I Aldi had the luxury of getting a 15v manix 2, thank you for the work you helped put into these knives Shawn. It is such a dream to sharpen. This has been the first knife with an hrc past 61-62 that I’ve had to use and sharpness. On to your video that always awesome turning a hair follicle into what looks like a tiny bouquet lol. So it seems to me to get a decent whittle of a hair yes you need a sharp grabby edge, but I also feel like technique in the angle you hold the knife to cut the hair and the cutting motion used. From experience if it’s even the slightest bit too much obtuse and you have the sharpness it’ll just blow right through the follicle.
Hey Shaun, I missed the sprint run :( I really want to pick one of the CPM 15V knives up!! Any idea if Spyderco and you will be doing another one?! I was so happy to see you do this and it went so fast. I learn a lot from you man.T hank you so much for what you do for us in the community, and what you make possible for the rest of us steel nerds out there. Have a great one!!
Sorry to hear, honestly we are quite fortunate this project even happened CPM 15V is not quite an optimal steel for a production setting given how extremely difficult it is to grind, also letting an outsider like myself run the heat treatment department is not typical either. So while you may not have been able to get one in Australia it is quite remarkable it was even done in the first place and wonderful that it sold so quickly because that let the world know there is demand for such a unique and special product like this.

I dont have much time rn so i cant write much, but my single biggest tip i can give: Use a relief/transition bevel (lower angle than edge, higher angle than sides). People usually let their 15 or 20dps edge bevel go really thick after a view resharpenings, and thinning the whole blade takes ages without big sanders (water spray cooled at best). Instead thin the edge with a 10dps relief/transition bevel! And "apex" it with two or three very light edge trailing passes per side at 15dps or slightly more depending on steel quality. Then 15 passes per side on a strop at the same angle. Done. This saves tons of time, makes touchups a breeze, and cut drastically better, without the insane workload of full thinning. Try it, and never look back to thick wedgy edges. Have fun.
I've been watching your channel for a while and I still don't know how the f*** you do that. Yeah, I watch it happen and still don't get it. Any other superpowers? Levitation, perhaps?

Longer than you would think, a lot of people make the mistake of not removing the burr well, however front end sharpness does not last as long as the working edge with all steels. I think folks put too much emphasis on carbides and HRC and not much thought on the Matrix which makes up the bulk of the edge and microstructure.
Usually you won't see that with a factory edge. No, not factory. I'll let you in on a little secret. The grit number for progression is not as important as using the right abrasive and knowing how to apex and deburr.
