My best equations to get it in as few guesses as possible (I mean getting a 2/6):
    1. 96-84=12
    2. 48-36=12
    3. 58-46=12
    4. 86-74=12
    5. 43-27=16
    6. 48-32=16
    7. 58-42=16
    Honourable mentions:
    3*54=162 (uses 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, and 6, those are the top 6 most common numbers)
    37+24=61 (again, 1, 2, 3, 4, and 6, and 3 2-digit numbers)
12+36=48 (pretty much the reverse of #2)
All those 10 are under the constraint that there are 6 DIFFERENT numbers and 1 operator, in which all those numbers include:
    1, 2, 4, AND 6.
Without that constraint, 54-38=16 would be the top contender.
But I don't know why, but 6*57=342 usually gets me there in 3 guesses.

Thanks for all the great combinations! I'll try some of these when I solve Nerdle tonight.

    Or try
    2*3+4=10
    96/8-7=5

Good but you can never get the answer in 2 guesses with such a method. I get it in 2 about 9% of the time...40 out of 432 streak with average 3.2
To achieve 3 most of the time I find that repeating known numbers and keeping any known operators from the first guess (any equation with two operators and half the digits) gives more information than pre fixing first two equations as in the video method.
