wow, thanks... just watched all your videos on the ms20 and am now looking at these, this is all super helpfull... just bought an ms20 mini and this was just what I needed...
Thanks for illustrating something missing in synthesizer videos... rocking out and looking cool doing so. Thanks for conveying your enthusiasm with some solid information to boot.
I really need to get some patch cables. My MS-20 didn’t come with any. I don’t want cheap ones from Amazon or EBay. Maybe order some jacks and mace them myself?? They are all Mono Right?
Marc, stop reading this comment and upload the minilogue videos. Also amazing demos, love that you aren't just noodling but laying down great tones and vibes of the synth. Love my MS-20 mini
I'll have you know, this made me laugh with inappropriate amplitude at work. And then I told them why I had laughed. And they all said "oh, we didn't know you were under 60."
We can't really hear the sound you make while talking. Would've been neat, I guess the sound only goes into your headset. We heard the sound in the demo, but not afterwards while you explain.
Ordered one of these bad boys today, super excited. Thanks for the video man, It helped a lot. It'll be my first analog synth, I've been using digital synths (which are quite boring to be honest). I'll just leave my soundcloud here: soundcloud.com/theofficialkromatix
Yes, well, that's all very reasonable. I blame you. Something YOU are doing is wrong, and to be honest, I'm having a hard time forgiving you for it. That, and in the first several of these, I didn't record the second part of the output of the synth. Still... your fault. The good news is, there are three of these videos, and somewhere down the line, I remembered to keep recording the synth.
I have a white ms-20. I regrettable sold my kit that I had a few months ago, because I did not understand the depth of the instrument, but now hopefully I can get back to it on this mini.
figured out a cool self oscillating patch for the ms20 mini; based upon audio centrals magazine. Variation on Self-Oscillating filter I also created my own saxophone/brass patch that doesn't require any patching and I think sounds better. KORG MS-20 mini synth: new cable-less saxophone patch!
These are excellent tutorials. But I'm using the Kronos so the MS20EX is more complex and confusing. Mark, you still out there, any help? Best tutorials out there, thanks :)
any time I run out of ideas(quite often,as I'm not that smart) I just watch one or more of these vids! Marc always delivers. Re-inspired and reinvigorated I am able to return to the ancient quest for originality! ( not really ...remember I'm not that smart.) thanks again Marc .If you need some help with plastering ,let me know.
this series of videos has been so helpful and informative. i don't have room for another synth but your explanations are so clear one can apply what you're talking about to any analog synth. really appreciate the time and care you put into these. thanks.
I want you to review a Yamaha CS-80, so I will call Vangelis and demand that he has you review one of his. I'm sure he doesn't need all of them, all the time.
If you ever do any more comedy, you should include a bit about doing instructional videos about synthesizers and viewers keep asking you about your doors and walls and shit. I did notice the distressed door, but never thought to try and pin you down about your living conditions.
My "earlier funnier" comment was an allusion to a Woody Allen line in Stardust Memories. Actually, your old MS 20 videos had me thinking that "this guy oughta go into comedy," and later I learned that you have done some standup, right? That "Christmas song" video about bad drivers was really hilarious.
I remember from an earlier video that the LFO goes into the audible frequency range. Can you patch the output from the LFO to the audio input and use it as a third audio oscillator?
Yeah Marc, this is exactly the type of thing I alluded to in my other post when asking you about the mod section using patching. Thanks again, much appreciated. Will go through all 3 of these.
There's one spot where I lose you on this patching. At around 2:19 you say "it's being controlled by the wheel." Is there a patch in there somewhere that does that? I can't seem to figure that out! Thanks for these vids, by the way, I am learning so so much!
*looks at a modular patch* "holy cow, what did I do here?" What every synth player working with modular synths thinks of when looking at all those damn cables.
Cringy playing... The demonstrations are ok and fun, but please, don't try to kid yourself, that could noodle with a keyboard to save your life. It's just... Very, bad, playing.
John Wick can rip on a synth, wow.
damn seems legit lol
fuck, this synth is crazy
Hm, maybe if I start two instances of the CS-50 video perfectly in sync, and somehow slightly detune the second version.
You're looking far out maaaaan

The 3rd patch is very good I think! Love how the button changes the timbre completely creating a separate voice! Thats a neat trick for songwriting..
Whoa I'm just like, spitting
Lmao

+LoveIsLogical You caught me. In my defense, I was waiting for some rendering to finish. But I'll get back to it. :D
Thank you!
These videos are pretty awesome man, I was so confused with the manual.
I'll have you know, this made me laugh with inappropriate amplitude at work. And then I told them why I had laughed. And they all said "oh, we didn't know you were under 60."
I don't even play keys, but watching these videos always makes think about learning.
Marc, the new analog synthesizer is waiting in the queue: Novation Bass Station 2 :)
We can't really hear the sound you make while talking. Would've been neat, I guess the sound only goes into your headset. We heard the sound in the demo, but not afterwards while you explain.
Again, thanks x 1,000,000 for your channel, being wicked thorough and knowledgeable, and sharing it all with us!!
Best tutorials ever! Keep them coming please :)

"Holy cow, what did I do here?" Glad to know it's not just me who does that! Good video as ever, htanks
Your videos are fantastic and educational, man. Thank you for making them.
Glad to help!
Everyone who would like to see me demo the Novation Bass Station 2 should contact Novation immediately and demand that they have me review it. :)
I have a white ms-20. I regrettable sold my kit that I had a few months ago, because I did not understand the depth of the instrument, but now hopefully I can get back to it on this mini.
He wasnt hitting any keys while he was talking...

Is this demo WITH or WITHOUT the irony? Either way I'm laughing ...
Can't you just watch my CS-50 demo several times in a row? ;)
Ghosts stole the audio. And yes... but I prefer to call it "distressed."
Thanks, Joe!

Hey, thank you very much for your kind words!
He was, around the 8 minute mark he asks if we can hear it "yeah i guess you can", he's messing with the patch while talking about it.
I want you to review a Yamaha CS-80, so I will call Vangelis and demand that he has you review one of his. I'm sure he doesn't need all of them, all the time.
I meant that... uhhh... metaphorically.
If you ever do any more comedy, you should include a bit about doing instructional videos about synthesizers and viewers keep asking you about your doors and walls and shit. I did notice the distressed door, but never thought to try and pin you down about your living conditions.

I'll be funnier in the future, I promise!
This made me burst out laughing at work.

Awesome video! I love all your reviews. One question though, is there any way to give the MS20 portamento? I REALLY like using portamento :3
Were any of the drum sounds made with the mini(I assume the tabla esc sound at the beginning isn't) also great video as always Marc.
Can I recommend getting your hands on a critter & guitari pocket piano? I reckon you'd dig it.
Yeah Marc, this is exactly the type of thing I alluded to in my other post when asking you about the mod section using patching. Thanks again, much appreciated. Will go through all 3 of these.
Glad to help you through the work day. I'm just returning the favor. Hey...we both have jobs.... congrats to us!
Great music, great videos!! Thx from Uruguay, South america (in here, many of us love synths too :P)
thomann (germany) says, i have to wait until beginning of may for the delevery...:-(
i guess korg had MANY MANY pre-orders...
Thank you very much!
Thank you, Nick. :)
Great video my friend, is this thing made in China or is Korg actually producing it in Japan. Thanks!
Thanks!
Hey, thank you!

+automaticgainsay - i just came back to this vid hoping I'd be able to figure it out and no dice....can you help? Thank you!
UPDATE! I figured it out!
How are the filters routed? Series? Parallel? Low first? High first?
Great video series, thanks much for these.
5:50 in case you're wondering. I recommend listening to Mark's words though.
Great video! I love this thing!
No you didn't. I already told you once
Great videos Marc, really helpful!
I know! Ship it already!!
Time for some Moog Barrettes?
Ah must have missed it. Nevermind :P
The first patch sounds to me like simple square waves filtered.
But it wasn't.
definitely in love with this synth
You’re the man lol
Thanks for watching!
All GarageBand!
ship it!
*looks at a modular patch* "holy cow, what did I do here?"
What every synth player working with modular synths thinks of when looking at all those damn cables.
Room reverb is driving me insane, man.
Weird because I record synths direct. Only the voice was in the room.
Not bad, but I liked your early funnier videos.
Cringy playing... The demonstrations are ok and fun, but please, don't try to kid yourself, that could noodle with a keyboard to save your life. It's just... Very, bad, playing.
Kid who about what?
haters gonna hate
