For all thoes who deny that the Spirit does this work today, please explain why countless thousands (really, millions) of believers around the world have had life-changing encounters to the glory of Jesus, producing love for God, His Word, and holiness after being slain in the Spirit. It's the biblical way to test the fruit. As for "self-control" in Scripture, I've dealt with this question in book form previously, but for those who have read the relevant material, the Greek word used in Gal 5 has to do with moral restraint. It has nothing to do with John falling like a dead man at the feet of Jesus in Revelation! Are you undisciplined in your speech or your conduct or in your eating or other areas in your life? Then you're lacking self-control. Did you fall over because of the overpowering presence of God? That makes perfect sense! And with the phone lines open for an entire hour for people to raise criticisms or questions, not one took up the offer. Just for the record! One further note, and it's something I should have said during the show. The Bible does command us to lay hands on people for various reasons, and that is all we're doing when it comes to people being slain in the Spirit (although in many cases, we don't touch them at all). We pray; the results are up to Him. So, the practice of laying on of hands is quite normative in Scripture. The phenomenon of people being overcome by God's presence is also attested in Scripture on numerous occasions. The two things going hand in hand should not surprise at all. And again, the big question: if the Spirit is not doing this, why can so many hundreds of thousands (really, millions) of believers worldwide attest to Jesus changing their lives through the experience? As I said on the show, we should be rejoicing over what the Spirit is doing.
I’m not sure why you feel the need to shift scripture to make a non-scriptural point, Michael. There are no accounts in scripture of anyone “being slain in the spirit”, no matter how you spin it. As a former charismatic myself, I look back and repent that I ever attributed my falling down to the work of God. Every time I fell, it was under my own accord, under the power of suggestion, and I am regretful that I did it. Even though my endorphins were satisfied, it brought shame and grief to the real Holy Spirit. We cannot base our faith on a practice created by humans as the NAR have in everything “charismatic.” It’s dreadful what they’ve done to God’s precious word. The “countless thousands” have come under the power of suggestion, because they would not know the non-scriptural teachings any other way unless it were demonically inspired. We cannot attribute non-scriptural practices to the work of God, the Holy Spirit. You just can’t. The two are separate entities. And, you are right and worn about “self-control.” They mean both things - moral control, and physical control. We are taught that worship be orderly. There was nothing orderly about what I lived, even though our crew was a more conservative pile of charismatics. Michael, I’m afraid you’ve spun this yet again, and I fear you’ll spin even my comment here.
I am not a cessationist but I'm not "charismatic" either. I accept that the gifts still continue but I AM skeptical about the whole "slain in the Spirit" thing. I think the question Dr Brown proposes "Where is it spoken of AGAINST in the Bible" is a bad one. Akin to responding "Well, can you prove that God doesn't exist?" in response to a skeptic asking for evidence of God. I also think the example of John is a poor one. One example is hardly solid foundation for declaring such a relatively common thing now is a thing. John saw things people "slain" do not. I do not doubt their salvation, I doubt the manifestation of falling over as because of the Spirit rather than a psychological thing. I believe the Spirit can move a person to repentance while at the same time something natural causes a person to fall.
@@THATjeffdelaney Good comment. My eyes finally opened to this when a friend of mine who was a 'chronic faller ' went over during prayer at the front of a meeting. Until then no-one had gone over, and after that many did go over. I realised they were being silly whilst trying to appear spiritual. The meeting did have genuine biblical gifts manifested. Walk pray, worship in the Spirit are biblical, slain in the Spirit is not but is a clever expression to sound biblical. Maybe on rare occasions some are overcome by the Spirit when this behaviour is not expected. I can think of one example. The tragedy is this relatively harmless thing made way for other experiences and manifestations that are positively antibiblical like the Toronto blessing. Once I had seen through this it was amazing how heated some charismatic friends could get defending it despite its absence from the NT.
I went from drugs, Partying, alcoholism to going to small church bc someone prophesied over me randomly and told me about specific demonic dreams I was having every single night and invited me to church that weekend. I went to the altar and someone prayed over me and I literally felt like I passed out. I woke up COMPLETELY RADICALLY changed. I had a new love for Jesus. I couldn't curse or even HEAR someone curse without my spirit cringing, let alone drink or do any drugs. This was over 10 years ago. I'm 27 years old. I always look back at that moment, bc God didn't have to reveal himself to me in a supernatural way. But he did. I knew NOTHING about being "slain in the spirit" I didn't even have a name for it, for many years. But it was undeniably the power of The Holy Spirit that over came me. I went to my high school that following week preaching to my class mates. That was not the devil... lol
Even if that truly happened, it’s not something we should pursue because the Bible doesn’t talk about it. God can use supernatural experiences but they may not be something we pursue or view as normative. I think we should only pursue what the Bible tells us to.
As a boy, the first time I was slain, the catcher whispered in my ear, "you can fall down now." I had my eyes closed and couldn't yet tell the pastor had signaled the Holy Spirit to knock me over. the next time around, a visiting pastor pushed my forehead, so I knew it was time to go down. I laid down for a long while hoping no one would suspect that I was merely praying to God, and not in a spiritual trance. Frankly, I was internally wracked with spiritual turmoil for several years because I knew I hadn't been knocked over by the Spirit, or genuinely spoken in the ecstatic tongue that was supposed to have been imparted on another occasion. I still think about that young man that I was sometimes and feel deep sadness.
It really is a shame that some resort to carnal tactics to get people "slain". I've also experienced the same thing you did and doubted it's genuineness. Until the Lord made me succumb one day. Whether you're slain or not isn't the point. The point is to always glorify Jesus Christ and I believe that's what Dr Brown is alluding to.
See what's interesting is I've experienced the complete opposite. I was not all the interested in any charismatic experience. I've never thought of toungues once! I was at my dads church n they invited ppl up to receive toungues. I decided to give it try which was unusual for me to do. This lady prayed with me and told me to believe and thank God that he gave it to me. And I was up there for a few minutes and felt so silly. But I told myself I'm gonna do my best to believe for this. And eventually my mouth started moving without me a supernatural presence filled my body and I began to shiver and weep while my tongue was uttering things I've never heard. I was so shook by that experience. I was in such deep shock for weeks. At the time I was happy being in "tamed" churches. But that experience shook me. I've also fallen under the spirit super naturally. I've NEVER been pushed. All this stuff at one time I didn't care for n thought was weird. Now I believe God can touch ppl in these ways.
@@danthemanbardo , "they invited ppl up to receive tongues." This is power of suggestion, not urging from the Holy Spirit, because the Holy Spirit will not encourage you to "receive" something that is not scriptural. Scripture is what binds God, the Holy Spirit. He will not do or encourage anything outside of scripture, which, anyone who has studied knows that the charismatic gibberish is not what scriptural tongues were. Also, "I decided to give it a try." This isn't how any of this works. Sorry, but it just isn't. I encourage you to really find out what the "supernatural presence" that entered your body because it has all the characteristics of what the Holy Spirit isn't. And I encourage to really dig into scripture instead of following the path the charismatics lead you. As I said, I was once there, and I thank God He didn't leave me there.
When Steve Hill placed his hand in front of my chest at The Brownsville Revival and said "Fire Lord." It felt like I was hit by a cannon ball, except it didn't hurt. I still feel the fire almost 30 years later. Praise The Lord! 🙏🔥
I had been in a deep depression but the lord showed me he would heal me. I began praising the lord and believing for deliverance. Then I was at a prayer meeting praying for a new person at our meeting when I was slain in the spirit. No one payed for me or layer hands. When I fell I heard the crash but I felt crushed. When I went down, I still had all the symptoms of depression and when I got back up I was completely delivered. I walked for a week filled with the spirit and everyone I saw asked me what happened to me. I experienced the love of God and the sweetness and gentleness of the Holy Spirit.
I was a skeptic until it happened to me. I was humbled. And it's happened a small handful of times more after then. Literally feel a power shoot through my body.
@@UnArmedFilms4UYour statement/point falls short because of your presupposition. You dont truly mean what you said “just because you feel a power doesnt mean it automatically is God” because you don’t believe God ever moves like this and your point doesnt leave room for God ever to move in power. your belief is not biblical based but purely skeptical. So when does feeling a power ever mean its God according to you? I tell you, in the beginning of 2021, God pursued me through a prophetic prayer. my aunt asked her pastor to pray for me without me knowing, and he prayed that i would have a revelation of the encounter i had with God. i never told my aunt about this encounter nor him. and it happened. it happened to be it happened when i was at her house too lol. at this time i was extremely addicted to weed and couldnt get off even though i wanted too. and after this revelation i began realizing God didnt forget abbot me and He loved me. after this day i was miraculously delivered from weed, didnt even have a desire for it, i finally had peace. and from there i started reading the bible. it was shortly after that i read the words of Jesus “if you love me, you will keep my commandments” for the first time i felt real conviction. because i was living in fornication still and other sins. that night or the next night. i was in my car and prayed in repentance toward God. i wept like a baby and this presence and power came over me that i tangibly felt. and ironically it felt exactly like the people in this video described, like electricity, love, joy and the fear of God was present. from there i have been walking with Jesus since and this same presence has came many more times as i wept, worshipped vigorously and prayed earnestly and vulnerably. will you call this the devil????
I waited for God to push me down and expected it to be overwhelming, and I still desire that, and am praying for that. But when I was slain in the Spirit, no one pushed me, but I felt the Spirit, my legs buckled under me, first my left then my right, and so I went down. I was shaking slightly and I layed there praying, and I realized that it was something I could have resisted, that I could have fought against, but I wanted to lean into what God was doing in me
I remember many church nights as a kid sitting on the pew drawing and waiting because my parents were slain in the spirit on the floor praying in tongues along with other people hours after church service was over. I've seen the Holy Spirit move in many ways. I've seen people healed, I've seen someone stand in church and speak in an unknown language, and someone else somehow interpret it while the church is quiet, and you can just feel the Holy Spirit in the place. That's happened probably 5 or 6 different times. I've seen my father and mother hundreds or thousands of times praying in tongues in their bedroom, office, or church. I could go on and on for hours, which makes me wonder how can soany not believe.
Reminder ⬇️ 1 Kings 18:46 Niv-The power of the LORD came on Elijah and, tucking his cloak into his belt, he ran ahead of Ahab all the way to Jezreel. (20 miles). 1 Kings 18:46 Ampfied classic edition- The hand of the Lord was on Elijah. He girded up his loins and ran before Ahab to the entrance of Jezreel [nearly twenty miles]. Judges 14:6 Niv-The Spirit of the LORD came powerfully upon him so that he tore the lion apart with his bare hands as he might have torn a young goat. But he told neither his father nor his mother what he had done. (Samson) Acts 3:8-10 Niv- He jumped to his feet and began to walk. Then he went with them into the temple courts, walking and jumping, and praising God. When all the people saw him walking and praising God, they recognized him as the same man who used to sit begging at the temple gate called Beautiful, and they were filled with wonder and amazement at what had happened to him. (Walking-jumping-praising God) WHEN THE POWER OF GOD FALLS THEIR IS NO LIMIT! That aside, yes their are a lot of folks faking miracles and being instructed to fall out calling it slain. Im not fan of catching people as they fall? Looks fake! So if someone is going to fall, let them! No need to catch. If its real, God is able to raise them up well. I have seen a few people fall out, run and dance and demons cast out, and it was genuinely real! But their are tons of counterfeit miracles, just to bee seen on your favorite christian celebrity pastor tv shows. They are not fooling God. Every knee will bow, no choice about that, now thats power! Praise Yahweh🔥🔥🔥💯
I remember falling down because it was expected. I also remember being pushed. I then decided I would resist and remain standing. That was fine until one occasion when it was like being hit by an electric bolt, except without the pain, before I was even touched. The pastor just raised his hand near me. I am naturally a skeptic, have always been but this was either from God or the person had something odourless on their hand which knocks people out. Still not sure but I trust Dr. Brown.
Here is a combined list of scriptures where individuals or groups fell down as a result of encountering God's presence or experiencing a supernatural event: 1. **Leviticus 9:24**: "Fire came out from the presence of the Lord and consumed the burnt offering and the fat portions on the altar. And when all the people saw it, they shouted for joy and fell facedown." 2. **1 Kings 18:39**: "When all the people saw this, they fell prostrate and cried, 'The Lord-he is God! The Lord-he is God!'" (This occurs after Elijah's contest with the prophets of Baal on Mount Carmel.) 3. **Ezekiel 1:28**: "Like the appearance of a rainbow in the clouds on a rainy day, so was the radiance around him. This was the appearance of the likeness of the glory of the Lord. When I saw it, I fell facedown, and I heard the voice of one speaking." 4. **Daniel 10:9**: "Then I heard him speaking, and as I listened to him, I fell into a deep sleep, my face to the ground." (Daniel's encounter with a divine being.) 5. **Matthew 17:6**: "When the disciples heard this, they fell facedown to the ground, terrified." (This occurs during the Transfiguration when the disciples hear the voice of God.) 6. **John 18:6**: "When Jesus said, 'I am he,' they drew back and fell to the ground." (This occurs when the soldiers come to arrest Jesus in the Garden of Gethsemane, and Jesus reveals his identity.) 7. **Acts 9:4**: "He fell to the ground and heard a voice say to him, 'Saul, Saul, why do you persecute me?'" (This describes Saul's conversion experience on the road to Damascus when he encounters the risen Jesus.) 8. **Joshua 5:14**: "Neither," he replied. "But as commander of the army of the Lord I have now come." Then Joshua fell facedown to the ground in reverence, and asked him, "What message does my Lord have for his servant?" (Joshua encounters the commander of the Lord's army and responds with reverence by falling facedown.) 9. **2 Chronicles 7:3**: "When all the people of Israel saw the fire coming down and the glory of the Lord above the temple, they knelt on the pavement with their faces to the ground, and they worshiped and gave thanks to the Lord, saying, 'He is good; his love endures forever.'" (This happens during the dedication of Solomon's temple when the fire of the Lord descends.) 10. **Ezekiel 3:23**: "So I got up and went out to the plain. And the glory of the Lord was standing there, like the glory I had seen by the Kebar River, and I fell facedown." (Ezekiel encounters the glory of the Lord and falls facedown.) 11. **Revelation 1:17**: "When I saw him, I fell at his feet as though dead. Then he placed his right hand on me and said: 'Do not be afraid. I am the First and the Last.'" (John falls at the feet of the glorified Christ in his vision on the island of Patmos.) These passages highlight the profound impact of encountering God's presence, as individuals and groups respond with awe, fear, and reverence, often falling down as a sign of submission, humility, or worship.
Only number 4 is close to what happens in church “slain”. Daniel was listening and fell asleep. All the other scripture is no where near “slain” they fell in fear and worship. Not slained
@@austinp1998 I don't think falling under the spirit is what it's talking about. And yet The Bible talks about God giving gifts. He gives one person the power to perform miracles. Where do we get the idea of that we can actually say with confidence what exactly to a tee of these things that won't happen period. There is plenty of verse of ppl being affected by the presence of touch of God. I've known so many people who've experienced such things being prayed for. But I guess demons. But many believe these gifts r gone away now. And when I say lose control I don't mean start barking like a dog. I collapsed.
Some preachers push them down. Charismatics started to pray for people standing and then they fall. People used to be on their knees when prayed and nobody fell.
@@Jorma-e4tsometimes it is abused I have had someone pray and try to push me down I didn’t let them I have also had it happen for real where it felt like electricity from my head to my feet. A friend of mine was in a bad accident and went to an event and was out for 2 hours and when she woke up she was verifiably (went to the doctor) healed from a lot of her issues. In any real move of God there will be counterfeits and people will abuse it. That doesn’t discredit the reality of the Holy Spirit
@@Jorma-e4twhat else is man made is people confidently saying what God Will and Can do. There are a lot of fake things happening in Jesus name. I personally had an experience that was not made up. Blessed testimonies and yes very clearly evident regarding the work of the HOLY SPIRIT through you Dr Brown.. our YESHUA LORD FATHER is glorified forever .. stay blessed ✝️♥️✌️
Related to what Dr. Brown says at about 51:00, the discussion of why cessassionists just don't get it: I try to discuss what the Bible actually says about the Gifts of The Holy Spirit with them mostly in loving terms and never get anything but hatefull responses. I received a comment from a fellow continuationist believer last week that suggested I was wasting my time because cessasionism is by definition blasphemy of The Holy Spirit, implying that they can't be saved anyway. I don't want to go that far, but I have long realized that it is walking very close to the edge of what Jesus directly addressed in Matthew 12:22-32. And I have actually heard some of them attributting what may or may not be Gifts to Satan. I would not want to stand before the Judgement Throne of God and have to explain why I accepted some made up explanation that was the opposite of what the Word actually says as my excuse for condemning somebody that was doing His will. I am somewhat of the opinion that many of them will not be satisfied until we have committed the unpardonable sin along with them. I think that may be what they are asking us to do in condemning others.
I really feel the heart of Dr Brown. The torrents of criticisms from dear brothers and sisters seeking to lightly label their fellow brethren as wolves and erase them from the Kingdom by sheer decree, over non-salvific differences, is chilling. Folks could we see that with the power and authority of the ancient Vatican, your unrighteousness judgement and unchecked criticism could see your fellow brothers on the stake. You may be correct in your perspective, but theor error does not warrant inventing new biblical lines by which we can rule your brethren out of the Kingdom. I thank God for your restraint and sight Dr Brown. May you continually be guided by the Truth and the Lord preserve you from the expectations of men
If people really knew the reason for the The Holy Spirit, the world would probably be in a better place. He changes the heart and provides the healing we all need. Look past the physical manifestation and ask yourself what God is doing in the heart and soul of the believer.
In 1623, Robert Fleming reported on a revival movement in Scotland when "a down-pouring of the Spirit" accompanied the ordinances and "in hearing of the Word, they have been made to fall over, and carried out of the church, who after proved most solid and lively Christians". Sounds to me like they were 'slain' in the Spirit. This Scottish Presbyterian sounds like a Pentecostal by modern comparison. I pray for revival again! 😊
When the Philistines stole the ark, Eli fell over backwards and broke his neck. 1 Samuel 4:18. When Jesus was arrested in the Garden, He asked, Whom do you seek? They said Jesus of Nazareth. Jesus said, I am he. As soon then as he had said unto them, I am he, they went backward and fell to the ground. John 18:4 - 6. When Ananias and Sapphira lied to the Holy Ghost, they fell down dead. Acts 5:1-11.
Acts 10:10-16-Peter fell into a trance and had a vision... Revelations 1:17- And when I (John) saw Him I fell at His feet as dead. Daniel 8:18- Now as he was speaking with me, I was in a deep sleep with my face to the ground, but he touched me, and stood me upright. Ezekiel 1:28 to Ezekiel 2:2 So when I saw it, I fell on my face, and I heard a voice of One speaking. And He said to me, Son of man, stand on your feet, and I will speak to you. Then the Spirit entered me when He spoke to me, and set me on my feet. When the Spirit of God moves strongly in a meeting a person can be overcome by the presence of God and fall..
God has never slain me in the Spirit. I have shaken under His power. I have been pushed by pastors. If pastors want people flat on their backs in order to minister to them they should tell the people to lie down. Many fall because they want to look spiritual. They think it's expected of them. Most often it is faked. And this faked falling dishonours God
What about the manifestations of the Spirit being the same as the kundalini spirit and its manifestations? Is the danger that those seeking these kind of manifestions could be interacting unknowningly with evil spirits?
Dr Brown I must ask. What about those who have exited the new age movement to wind up in the reform movement, and say they see comparisons between what they left, and what they see in charismatic meetings? Could they be the same with a Jesus veneer, or is the new age a counterfeit of the Holy Spirit moving in charismatic gatherings?
In my experience I have been pushed down several times. A couple of times I went down and no one touched me and I think those were genuine experiences with the Holy Spirit.
Was prayed over standing up and the person praying began to say there it is there it is and then proceeded to push me over but I didn’t yield. Fake fake fake…
It is real ...back in 1994 ish it was time when Toronto blessing was happening. I am in UK and I was new Christian. I visited a new frontiers church and I was very suspicious of everything to do with the torronto blessing. I was in the service not really engaging, no one prayed for me. I found myself on the ground. Initially I was cross and stood up straightaway and was like Not for me ...then I felt the power of God fall on me and I fell down again. I was on the floor for over an hour and God was really doing a work in me. Mainly being in control and surrendering to Gods plan for my life 🙏
Yes I do know that you need to test Spirit and it needs to be Holy Spirit. By the fruit ....I am not someone that goes after experience. The fruit that came from that was I was more on fire for God ...love for his word which led me to being baptised in the Holy Spirit and receiving the gift of tongues.
Have been in meetings where people have fallen out all around the building over 70 metres away from the pulpit- some moving by the roadside. Many of them experiencing trances and visions, almost all filled with the spirit and converted. Nobody laid hands on anyone during that revival in buea, Cameroon back in december 2003- over 20 years ago. Btw, there's enough scriptures to support this phenomenon from biblical accounts- ezekiel, john the revelator, the disciples of jesus all fell out from the power of God. Ezekiel fell out when he had his first open vision. The roman soldiers fell out when Jesus spoke to them as they came to arrest him in the garden of gethsemane. Just because something isn't taught by the apostles - who taught little on manifestations of the spirit, or that it is reported few times in scriptures doesn't mean it wasn't common or a popular manifestation of God as he came in contact with men.
Dr Brown....I was born again in a prosperity church and I can't say that I ever felt that God was part of the slaying in the Spirit? I can believe it if a few people have this experience. I just don't think everybody goes through this. Take the " catchers" away and not many people fall over.
There is abuses for sure, like pastors pushing people or blowing really loudly. I resist if the person praying for me starts trying to push me over. This is not right. But at least 2, maybe 3 times in my life, it was 100% God. 1 time I didn't feel myself falling or landing, and I woke up on the ground, and another time I was basically spirtually body slammed. The catchers couldn't even catch me in time. I hit the ground so hard and felt no pain and just overwhelming joy. I was instantly delivered from strong depression that I had been struggling for over 6 months beforehand. And it never came back. Glory to God!

When I was a kid, I would get slain in the Spirit every chance I got. I just thought it was like a trust fall, but I still did it. Then I would peek out of my eyes to see when other people would start to wake up so I knew when to get up. Does that make me a bad person?
ABSOLUTELY TRUE, Dr. Brown! It's basically common sense! When I was prayed for, in 1990, the godly woman who prayed for me, didn't even touch me, but commanded the demon out of me, and it came out, God had opened my eyes a few days before, where I saw, in the spirit, where demons walk, and what the one that was oppressing me looked like! After it went out, I felt a surge of electricity through my whole body, literally surging through me, and this woman told me that God would put a dance in my feet!! Guess what, He did!! I totally agree with the letter you read, the first one, I had the same encounter!! God is real! Love this, Dr.Brown, I remember Kenneth Hagin, Sr., he said some theologians that have PhD. next to their name, what it really means is Post Hole Digger, LOL, LOL, !! Remember, Scripture says, the common people heard Jesus gladly!! I hear some cessationists talk about God as if He's a distant figure somewhere that just looks down from heaven, and they give these King James version long explanations, which you can't really even understand, and I feel very sorry for them, but they don't want to be teachable, I'm sorry, you can confront someone who believes like the Bible says, and the early church did, but when you begin to come against these things, like they're heretical, or make videos against everything that happens in Charasmatic churches, or just Charasmatic brothers and sisters in general, that's WRONG!! To me it sounds just like the Pharisees, and remember what God did to King David's wife, when she saw him dancing before the Lord, and his ephod went up while dancing, she looked at it as undignified, and what happened?! I think it's absolutely wrong to do this, and today everyone has a UA-cam channel about SOMETHING OR ANOTHER, IT'S JUST RIDICULOUS!!
I'm not against falling but Everytime I have fallen I just fell back I didn't feel anything push me down I just knew in the church I was going to we were supposed to fall back. I'm not sure if that's ok or not?!
My question is this, if it is normal and of God, wouldn't the Lord allow it to happen within ALL denominations? Why does it only happen with charismatics, the only denomination that promotes this kind of thing? What about the weird holy laughter? Does the Bible prohibit it? It doesn't. Should we then laugh uncontrollably like lunatics just because it doesn't prohibit it?
God is not gonna force something on you that you don’t want. The Bible speaks about asking for the gifts of the Holy Spirit. So you want God to give things to people who don’t desire it. Jesus said ask and it shall be given onto you. If you don’t desire something that then, don’t expect God to do it for you, even Jesus could do miracles in his hometown, because they had no faith in his ability to do it.
The person that Dr Brown came up to in the example he gave seemingly was not wanting / expecting this, yet flailed on the floor. Did God force it on that person? Also, wouldn’t the glory of God be strong enough to overpower our will if this act was indeed the inability to stand up before the presence of God?
@@UnArmedFilms4U you know sometimes I rather you guys celebrate that God is moving rather than be obsessed about every tiny detail. Where is the joy of your face? @@StonyKalango As alluring as that may sound, a responsible examination is exactly what the Bereans did in Acts 17 did which John only commended them for, calling them more noble. Acts 17:11 Now these Jews were more noble than those in Thessalonica; they received the word with all eagerness, examining the Scriptures daily to see if these things were so. The Holy Spirit is the Spirit of truth, not disorder. John 16:13 - When the Spirit of truth comes, he will guide you into all the TRUTH, for he will not speak on his own authority, but whatever he hears he will speak, and he will declare to you the things that are to come. 1 Corinthians 14:39-40 (ESV) 39 So, my brothers, earnestly desire to prophesy, and do not forbid speaking in tongues. 40 But all things should be done decently and in order. People toppling over one another in masses as men blow on them or whip their jackets at them is not "decently and in order". With all due respect sir, I hope you come to realize these things oppose what the scripture tells of the Holy Spirit.
When Jesus said "I Am He" to those who came to arrest Him, they fell backward and to the ground! John 18:6 Different situation/circumstance but same Spirit!
God may do what God may do. It is not for us to say what He may choose to do - and remember we see as though through a glass darkly, only understanding in part no matter how we may theorize or study. We aren't going to get final answers on some subjects until after we go home to be with Jesus. That said, yes, test the Spirits and look to a man's fruit. Apply Scripture as best we may understand it but we may never know a definitive answer to some things in this life.
So many are quick to judge and think of themselves more highly than they ought. They forget where it says that both he that justifies the guilty and he that condemns the innocent are both an abomination to the Lord. Let's be cautious in making any judgement calls about anyone especially when you're not dealing with facts. Inferences, speculations and educated guesses aren't fact so treat accordingly.
Never agreed with slaining the spirit. Seen it happen in charismatic churches with my own eyes but never felt anything when they prayed over me. Most important is does slaining spirit causes regeneration? If it doesn’t what's the point of it? All I see is people chasing this stuff and seeking to have the next spiritual high.
I sense the Greek philosophy influence of the West has led many, including some Christians to be skeptical. It's not merely slain in the spirit that matters. Its the move of God we should appreciate and not despise. Whether teaching or prophecy, convictions or slain in the Spirit, these are all the move of God that we should embrace. Here in Africa, it isnt even a topic for debate!
Below is exactly what many some against. Mark 9 26 Then the spirit cried out, convulsed him greatly, and came out of him. And he became as one dead, so that many said, “He is dead.” 27 But Jesus took him by the hand and lifted him up, and he arose.
The Spirit of God would not have the same Characteristics as pagan rituals. Why would God purposely confuse people? Kundalini practices and some cults move in the same way as those “filled with the spirit.” Euphoric feelings and emotional hype does not mean anything.
@TheSaxMan567 God isnt confusing anyone, Satan imitates the Holy Spirit. People in witchcraft and are operating in demons can "prophecy" correctly but that doesnt mean prophecy is demonic because it is a gift of the spirit. Demons are trying to copy what the Holy Spirit does.
Arthur Blessitt was preaching and handing out bibles in Nicaragua years back, and army soldiers showed up to stop him with their guns drawn. Next thing you know their all flat on the ground. That was angels protecting him, not God healing somebody.
Did you really just spend an hour or so on this issue without even talking about how the fruit of the Spirit is self control? (Or did I somehow miss you answering that most obvious scriptural problem with the practice?)
Also, (and thx for the opportunity to comment since I took the time to watch the whole thing) you are assuming that the good effects are "the result" (your words) of being "slain in the Spirit." I would say any good effects come from the word and prayer, because they are the clear scriptural means of grace. Your approach would mean that we should accept the claims of someone who says essential oils have resulted in their salvation or sanctification - the Bible doesn't say that cannot happen (in fact, you can probably find more scriptural support for that than being slain in the Spirit).
It doesn't say Daniel had no control of what he did, and even if so it clearly says he was frightened. The people falling over today are not doing it because of fear.
Brother Dr.Brown I love you and I will be very upfront and truthful. To me that intro music that plays at the start of your show and also on the breaks . Sounds like those demonic rock groups it's sounds like noise pollution from the devil .Please my brother restart your show with a beautiful sound that will also touch listeners along with you witnessing by spreading the gospel on the air . @@meowpurrrrr , all of what is happening under the “charismatic” moniker is fake. It’s a spectacle. God wants what happens to us to be in secret, not on display.
Never had catchers growing up in Pentecostal… I was always told IF it was real/ authentic, there was no concern for getting hurt. Add catchers and you probably increased the ‘fakers’. 😂
It's basically a normative vs regulative principal. "Slain in the spirit" is stepping outside the bounds of even the commonly understood normative principal though because people toppling over one another on stage as a man whips them with a jacket is an undeniable lack of self-control and contradicts scripture, which clearly states that those filled with the fruits of the Spirit would instead display self-control as they develop in sanctification. Physically harming believers in worship is not a true manifestation of the Holy Spirit in believers. If we cannot agree on this, then what says Todd Bentley kicking a woman is not normative, Dr. Brown? After all, apostle Paul doesn't address this on scripture right? /sarcasm... With all due respect, you're misleading your listeners, Dr. Brown.
This is completely novel. Anyone can fall over. If someone perseveres in the faith it’s because God preserves them through the word and not this unfounded practice that is a 20th century invention.
It is interesting that on the day of Pentecost there is zero mention of this happening to anyone. Surely the Holy Spirit was present in an overwhelming way on that day of all days. It’s far more easily explained by the expectation people have of how God works in lives. In many cases forms of hypnosis are being used I think; Benny Hinn etc. The credulity of Michael Brown is increasingly evident notwithstanding his many virtues as a scholar.
Hophni and Phinehas, sons of Eli the priest, With greed in their hearts, they sought to feast On the offerings brought by the people in faith, But their motives were sinister, their hearts filled with hate. They took all they could, without mercy or care, Leaving the congregation in despair. The people suffered, their trust betrayed, By the ones who were meant to provide them aid. Hophni and Phinehas, with lust in their eyes, Sought to fulfill their selfish desires. They took advantage of their position of power, Leaving the people's faith to sour. Their actions brought discord and distrust, Seeds of resentment began to thrust. The once united congregation now divided, By the deeds of those who should have guided. But their reign of greed and lust did not last, For eventually, their sins caught up with them fast. Their fate sealed by their own betrayal, Hophni and Phinehas faced the ultimate travail. In the end, they paid the price for their sin, Their downfall a cautionary tale within. Their legacy tainted by their greed and lust, A reminder of the consequences unjust. So let their story serve as a reminder, Of the dangers of greed and desire. For Hophni and Phinehas, in their lustful quest, Brought suffering and turmoil to the congregation's nest.
Love ya Dr. Brown, but this was a bad take. I think the obvious fruit is that the trend is modern and nonsense MOST of the time. Emotionalism. Yet, I think there are possibly rare times people are overwhelmed supernaturually. You think it's odd to be skeptical of it, I think it's odd to assume it's usually Godly. Love ya either way, continue on friend!
Do you believe ppl have fallen supernaturally? This is the thing I don't understand. I have fallen under a supernatural force you can feel it. More than once through prayer. You would litterally have to call me a liar or say it was demons. There is no in between. It was not the result of an emotional you literally feel a supernatural surge like Lighting go through you. You can feel the spirit in your breath. Again the only alternative is demons yet we were praising and praying to the Lord.
Were you there MoST of the time with spiritual discernment knowing their hearts? Beware of what you Assume thinking you know it all. Some for sure are fake like Benny hinn, but you do not understand all the Holy Spirit will do for people.
Great episode! Have to be honest, the cessionist movement have many of the markers of a cult (JMac, Justin, Chris, Todd, etc) what’s the point of dialoguing with that group???

It's sooo FAKE. my sister was almost knocked down by a woman who was in front of her who was "slain in the spirit" and fell backwards causing my sister to lose her balance.
I have supernaturally fallen under a power that came over me a number of times I've never been pushed once. if they were to try and push me I would resist cuz that is silly.
Isaiah 28:11,12...Acts 2:38-42.Yeshua is your creator, redeemer: Just ask Him to show you 😂 pretty simple for all His kids. ❤ He is he father of light and wants to show you how much he loves you.
Who did this? I would say the ratio fake - real is out of balance. Most people who are “slain in the spirit” are actually doing it themselves. it’s very likely that in many cases people are not aware they are faking it (just like when they speak in tongues). They just do it under the impression that god is pushing them down. it is an emotional reaction from people who genuinely desire to be “touched”. Further we will never know if those people’s life would have unfolded any differently if they didn’t have that “falling down” experience. I know people who were slain in the spirit and years later left the church. Others who are still in church and bear fruit (but hard to say that this fruit is simply because they fell down in the spirit)
Wondering? 🤔💭…. I never hear you say Holy Ghost? Why ? Maybe you should have a study on Holy Ghost and Holy Spirit… what’s the difference and why people these last few years have chosen to say Holy Spirit … rather than say Holy Ghost?
I don't believe it. I think it's theatre. If God was going to heal people by this means, then he wouldn't have people faint and pass out, thereby falling to the ground without the use of their arms. This would many times cause an injury, when the person is supposed to be getting healed. Sometimes there is staff catching people, and many times there is not.
From the Line of Fire team: The radio studio is Winston Salem does NOT block any callers unless their call is off the announced topic or unless they have called more than once within three weeks.
This didn’t start happening until like early 1900s, so if it’s truly from God, then why did He not do this in the past as much as He supposedly is doing it now? We know God has healed people all throughout history, so we know it still happens today. But this has not happened throughout history. Only for about a 100 years now.
@user-hc1yh7gt3r yeah. it’s because it’s expected and known in Pentecostal churches. It’s just a known response. There was a charismatic preacher in the 90s who even said that people only fell down in America. But people in other countries didn’t do it, because they didn’t know about it. It wasn’t a known phenomenon to them, so they didn’t respond that way.
@@austinp1998 God can perform signs, wonders and miracles as he chooses. We shouldnt try to put God in a box and say that he can only move in ways that we want him to move. Gods presense can overwhelm an individual: 2 Chronicles 5:13-14 "The trumpeters and musicians joined in unison to give praise and thanks to the Lord. Accompanied by trumpets, cymbals and other instruments, the singers raised their voices in praise to the Lord and sang: “He is good; his love endures forever.” Then the temple of the Lord was filled with the cloud, and the priests could not perform their service because of the cloud, for the glory of the Lord filled the temple of God."
@@WhosthatHotspice one of the fruits of the Spirit is self-control. If the Spirit is really moving upon you, then you aren’t going to do anything uncontrollably.
@@austinp1998 Moves of the spirit can be spontaneous and incredibly overwhelming and so whilst the Holy Spirit doesnt necassarly force us, there are times when its easier to just flow with the spirit rather then resisting. Slain in the spirit is similar, I can resist, but its easier to just surrender which can result in the appearance of uncontrolable shaking. Acts 2 was similar, they all spoke in tounges similtanously and had the appearance of chaos and disorder that some people thought the disciples were drunk, but they clearly had control thats why peter was able to get up and speak.
I received the Baptism in The Holy Spirit in 1998. I've never been slain in The Spirit. I must admit, based on some of the testimonies I've heard, if I had to choose between being Slain in The Spirit -vs- Deliverance ministries where I'm asked (during a deliverance session) to speak on behalf of Leviathan, Jezebel, Ahab spirits before the council of Heaven, I'm more inclined towards being Slain in The Spirit.
“That sounds like Jesus to me”, sounds like BS to me. I’ve been to numerous churches over the years and I can know what to expect in all the churches. I know if I go to a Church of England service or catholic service it will be a calm affair. I know if I go to a Pentecostal church it will be more excitable. I know if it’s a black church what to expect. Even if it’s the same denomination as a white church it will be different. What do they all have in common? People. People are different and their services reflect their differences. People are also suggestible and gullible. They fool themselves and others. That is why testimony is not good independent evidence. People are different and perceive things in different ways. There is no objective, independent evidence to support claims of being slain in the spirit, whatever that means. If it was anything other than personal emotions we would be able to test it. We have no evidence other than testimony to support these claims. People are deceived and people lie.
Haha Muslims have the best dreams about Christ 😂 I love it! It's been a long time since I've been slain in the Spirit! I have too many inhibitions now, lots of disappointment lately 😢 need to get delivered! Need the joy of the Lord increase!
Dr. Brown, saying that the Bible doesn’t speak against something therefore we should believe in it is probably the weakest argument I’ve ever heard. Could not someone then justify any behavior that the Bible doesn’t specifically condemn or forbid? I know you’re smarter than that.
@@arditienthusiast8384 Two separate issues. That need to be dealt with separately! Btw despite what Justin Peter or JMac say about charismatics, the truth is most charismatics consider Benny Hinn a false teacher!
Horrible opening point, if someone is on the floor convulsing wouldnt we identify that to be a demon? So why would we attach that same manifestation as God touching someone? Youre truly contradicting yourself, I digress, im assuming you also didnt review the brownsville revival 🚩
Weak argument today Dr Brown. Haha I helped you and Steve from Seattle in the revival. I’m not sure if we were doing God’s work or the work of the flesh (maybe both). Overall, we know just bc someone says something happens has no bearing on if it happened or not. Thanks for doing the show.
@@THATjeffdelaneyYou also believe that miracles, apostleship, prophecies ceased?
@@meowpurrrrr , bad argument. Try again.
That was not the devil... lol
Thank you for sharing such a powerful testimony!!!!
This is a wonderful testimony. Thank you for sharing!!

I am so sorry you were subjected to this. I can relate entirely.
As I said, I was once there, and I thank God He didn't leave me there.
don't be like that !
Thanks for reading these testimonies- they are encouraging and beautiful! Praise Jesus!

I was shaking slightly and I layed there praying, and I realized that it was something I could have resisted, that I could have fought against, but I wanted to lean into what God was doing in me
Well, it happened to me twice in all my Christian years, and no one pushed me! It was very real and super natural.

Brown.
Here is a combined list of scriptures where individuals or groups fell down as a result of encountering God's presence or experiencing a supernatural event:
1. **Leviticus 9:24**:
"Fire came out from the presence of the Lord and consumed the burnt offering and the fat portions on the altar. And when all the people saw it, they shouted for joy and fell facedown."
2. **1 Kings 18:39**:
"When all the people saw this, they fell prostrate and cried, 'The Lord-he is God! The Lord-he is God!'"
(This occurs after Elijah's contest with the prophets of Baal on Mount Carmel.)
3. **Ezekiel 1:28**:
"Like the appearance of a rainbow in the clouds on a rainy day, so was the radiance around him. This was the appearance of the likeness of the glory of the Lord. When I saw it, I fell facedown, and I heard the voice of one speaking."
4. **Daniel 10:9**:
"Then I heard him speaking, and as I listened to him, I fell into a deep sleep, my face to the ground."
(Daniel's encounter with a divine being.)
5. **Matthew 17:6**:
"When the disciples heard this, they fell facedown to the ground, terrified."
(This occurs during the Transfiguration when the disciples hear the voice of God.)
6. **John 18:6**:
"When Jesus said, 'I am he,' they drew back and fell to the ground."
(This occurs when the soldiers come to arrest Jesus in the Garden of Gethsemane, and Jesus reveals his identity.)
7. **Acts 9:4**:
"He fell to the ground and heard a voice say to him, 'Saul, Saul, why do you persecute me?'"
(This describes Saul's conversion experience on the road to Damascus when he encounters the risen Jesus.)
8. **Joshua 5:14**:
"Neither," he replied. "But as commander of the army of the Lord I have now come." Then Joshua fell facedown to the ground in reverence, and asked him, "What message does my Lord have for his servant?"
(Joshua encounters the commander of the Lord's army and responds with reverence by falling facedown.)
9. **2 Chronicles 7:3**:
"When all the people of Israel saw the fire coming down and the glory of the Lord above the temple, they knelt on the pavement with their faces to the ground, and they worshiped and gave thanks to the Lord, saying, 'He is good; his love endures forever.'"
(This happens during the dedication of Solomon's temple when the fire of the Lord descends.)
10. **Ezekiel 3:23**:
"So I got up and went out to the plain. And the glory of the Lord was standing there, like the glory I had seen by the Kebar River, and I fell facedown."
(Ezekiel encounters the glory of the Lord and falls facedown.)
11. **Revelation 1:17**:
"When I saw him, I fell at his feet as though dead. Then he placed his right hand on me and said: 'Do not be afraid. I am the First and the Last.'"
(John falls at the feet of the glorified Christ in his vision on the island of Patmos.)
These passages highlight the profound impact of encountering God's presence, as individuals and groups respond with awe, fear, and reverence, often falling down as a sign of submission, humility, or worship.
Only number 4 is close to what happens in church “slain”.
Daniel was listening and fell asleep.
All the other scripture is no where near “slain” they fell in fear and worship. Not slained
I've been slain in the spirit about five times never been pushed. Felt something supernatural fill my body and lose control
But does not the Bible say one of the fruits of the Spirit is self control?

May you continually be guided by the Truth and the Lord preserve you from the expectations of men
Great spiritual analysis👏🏽
I fell out I think back in ‘18 and it was superb, stoked my faith for sure 😇

Very good!
In my experience I have been pushed down several times. A couple of times I went down and no one touched me and I think those were genuine experiences with the Holy Spirit.
There's a difference between being "normative" and ceasing.

Mark 9
26 Then the spirit cried out, convulsed him greatly, and came out of him. And he became as one dead, so that many said, “He is dead.” 27 But Jesus took him by the hand and lifted him up, and he arose.
So do all the people “slain in the Spirit” have demons living in them, including genuine believers?
The Spirit of God would not have the same Characteristics as pagan rituals. Why would God purposely confuse people? Kundalini practices and some cults move in the same way as those “filled with the spirit.” Euphoric feelings and emotional hype does not mean anything.
@TheSaxMan567 God isnt confusing anyone, Satan imitates the Holy Spirit. People in witchcraft and are operating in demons can "prophecy" correctly but that doesnt mean prophecy is demonic because it is a gift of the spirit. Demons are trying to copy what the Holy Spirit does.
Yet critics will criticiize
Arthur Blessitt was preaching and handing out bibles in Nicaragua years back, and army soldiers showed up to stop him with their guns drawn. Next thing you know their all flat on the ground. That was angels protecting him, not God healing somebody.
Whenthe guards came to arrest Jesus and Jesus said ,”I am he,” the guards fell to the ground.
Did you really just spend an hour or so on this issue without even talking about how the fruit of the Spirit is self control? (Or did I somehow miss you answering that most obvious scriptural problem with the practice?)
All you have to look at is all the prophets like Daniel , falling because of Gods presence. Read Daniel’s encounter of God.
@@jeremygomez5951, ummm, that is not being “slain in the spirit.” Daniel never got encounter that NAR creation.

It is interesting that on the day of Pentecost there is zero mention of this happening to anyone. Surely the Holy Spirit was present in an overwhelming way on that day of all days. Hophni and Phinehas, sons of Eli the priest,
With greed in their hearts, they sought to feast
On the offerings brought by the people in faith,
But their motives were sinister, their hearts filled with hate.
They took all they could, without mercy or care,
Leaving the congregation in despair.
The people suffered, their trust betrayed,
By the ones who were meant to provide them aid.
Hophni and Phinehas, with lust in their eyes,
Sought to fulfill their selfish desires.
They took advantage of their position of power,
Leaving the people's faith to sour.
Their actions brought discord and distrust,
Seeds of resentment began to thrust.
The once united congregation now divided,
By the deeds of those who should have guided.
But their reign of greed and lust did not last,
For eventually, their sins caught up with them fast.
Their fate sealed by their own betrayal,
Hophni and Phinehas faced the ultimate travail.
In the end, they paid the price for their sin,
Their downfall a cautionary tale within.
Their legacy tainted by their greed and lust,
A reminder of the consequences unjust.
So let their story serve as a reminder,
Of the dangers of greed and desire.
For Hophni and Phinehas, in their lustful quest,
Brought suffering and turmoil to the congregation's nest.

I tried calling many times but I was blocked it seems. I guessed I asked questions you don’t like.

This didn’t start happening until like early 1900s, so if it’s truly from God, then why did He not do this in the past as much as He supposedly is doing it now?
We know God has healed people all throughout history, so we know it still happens today. But this has not happened throughout history. Only for about a 100 years now.
