EP50: Our 1,500KM Detour, was it worth it?! | Chinchilla, Mitchell, Charleville | Lap of Australia

- We make our way inland again on a 1500Km detour to Charleville and back, lets hope our plans go ahead. We hit the road and our first stop is in the lovely town of Chinchilla, famous for their melons and home to the melon festival. While here we checkout the town and it’s time to get our 3rd jab, welcome to our jabs around Australia series!
Next, we head to Mitchell, another lovely outback Queensland town, famous for the fantastic Great Artesian Spas there, which we just had to try. We eventually made it to Charleville, some 750Km inland from the coast and our first stop was the amazing bilby experience which we absolutely loved.
Unfortunately, the weather started to arrive, heavy clouds and heavy rain, in a place where it hardly ever rained, we copped a lot! After a couple of days stuck in the caravan it was time to leave, we made the long trip back, stopping at Roma on the way, spending another night in Chinchilla, then ending the week in Toowoomba.
We are Hannah, Chris and dog Archie, setting off on a 12(ish) month trip around Australia - our BIG Staycation, with the whole of Australia as our backyard! We've quit our jobs, rented the house and gone from never towing a caravan, to touring the country full time with one! We're learning as we go! / staycationoz

Hi guys, we've been big fans since episode 1. Have watched you're whole trip and not sure what we will do when it's over. We recently moved from the UK (partner is British and I'm Aussie) and have started our own 1/2 lap taking plenty of inspiration from your channel. My parents, based in South Coast NSW are also big fans. We'd often chat about your latest episode on facetime when we were in the UK and them in Aus. Anyway, as you make your way round, if you need dog sitters in the Ben Boyd National Park area, let us know. They'd love to look after Archie and have stacks of animal caring experience (having just spent 30 years on a farm).

We’re making our way down NSW now (our videos are running a couple of weeks behind), and will be heading that way, so may take you up on that offer, as it sounds like there are some good spots to visit down there that aren’t dog friendly! Hannah 😊
Hey guys another great episode!!! We really felt your frustration in missing out on the cosmos centre tours as it would’ve been hard to cop travelling all that way only to be told that the planets haven’t lined up (pardon the pun) due to weather conditions 😔 anyway it seemed like you guys still enjoyed the experience. Haha! Yes even though it was frustrating, we saw places along the way which we loved and would have never seen if we didn't head out that way! It just means we'll have to try again another time :)
Sorry you missed the tour at the cosmos observatory. We were there 2014 and loved it. We went in July. Leave it on your bucket list.

Totally understand and that’s exactly what we want to hear. We have been preparing for our big lap for a few years now and just waiting on our van to be finished so we can start our journey. We have enjoyed watching you guys keeping it real for us and we appreciate all you are doing. It takes a lot of courage and hard work 😓 . We think you guys are terrific, through the good the bad and the ugly moments. Hope to meet you both & Archie on our travels one day.

The bilbies were a real highlight - such cute little creatures ! Otherwise, it was sad to share your disappointment at making such a long journey to find the sun had disappeared but, at least you were able to enjoy some of the places you passed through on the way.
Let's hope for better weather this coming week as you start to get into the final stages of the Staycation. Looking forward to seeing it. !!

Plus, I think we were a bit under the weather from our COVID booster jabs, so probably a bit more sensitive to frustrations than usual. 💉😳

As much as I love your presentations, surely you would have realised that going to Charleville in the wet season, you had a fair chance of it being cloudy. Life’s like that!
Of course, it was always a possibility… even so was a great road trip with many great towns on the way!! But it was actually the cyclone which brought all of the rain unfortunately! 😂 Gives us an excuse to go back and visit another time!!

Guys I normally find your videos informative and enjoyable but this one I skipped through, I get it was a wasted journey but there was far too much whinging in your footage, sometimes things don’t go to plan, it’s life guys live with it.
Sorry you felt it came across that way - we are all good with it, and just wanted to communicate that doing a year long lap of Australia isn’t all sunshine and roses. 99% of the time we are happy and loving life, but we are only human and sometimes feel a little flat and get disappointed. We try and be authentic in all our videos and show our true feelings, whatever they may be.
@@StaycationOz as someone whose recently started a 1/2 lap and had some flat days, I really appreciated seeing that it wasn't just us and that those days do just happen.
