I work on the Avenue and it needs help badly! I have said for years that something like this should be done so I hope it actually happens. This is a project everyone can enjoy.
Add bag checks & fees to access oak Street... There will be smelly dorks loitering with loud music
Don't fix what's not broken. Look what happened to State Street shopping after Jane Byrne turned it into a desert.
Oak Street and Michigan Avenue ARE broken. I work in the area. Have you been there lately? This is a great idea.
@@JoseMartinez-df2db : How are they broken? Due to lack of law enforcement, or due to lack of construction?
You have to be kidding me. Why? It seems this will only make it easier for the packs of ferals to wreak havoc.
One of the most dangerous cities in the world
Still one the best.
No it's not one of the most dangerous cities. 🤦🏽♂️
Detroit or Cleveland might have something to say about that.
The idea of creating a mixed use district is great. We could turn this into a mini Vegas Strip. Attractions, but also plenty of places for people to spend. But the idea of reducing traffic lanes? Stop it. That's not necessary, and it's only going to create congestion. Las Vegas Boulevard has like six lanes of traffic and they make money hand over fist out there. Above all what Michigan Avenue needs is for Illinois to reverse its soft on crime policies. Every time I go down there it seems a little more vacant. Do you think that has anything to do with stores getting robbed over and over? High end retailers are not going to renew expensive leases if they are repeatedly relieved of hundreds of thousands of dollars worth of inventory. As far as the connection to Oak Street Beach goes: it seems like a nice idea, although also not necessary. If they want to spread some money around to their friends through a typically over-budget public project it wouldn't be the worst thing. The people would get something nice out of it.
