Donkeys!!! 😍 Gosh I love the library. Thank you for always shouting them out!! I know a lot of booktubers do use Libby etc, but having a detailed breakdown really highlights how useful they can be if you use them regularly!!
I appreciate that you encourage using the library! It is definitely a money saver for me and a space saver! ❤ My local library does read to a dog that my youngest son loves to do! This month, it was all space theme, so the dogs had little astronaut costumes!
Another thing I love about hoopla is the graphic novels selection! And also the interface once you borrow them it’s SO easy to read them bc of how you can zoom in on the individual panels. Sometimes I read them at work on my computer lol
I love love love Libby. In 2019 I exclusively did audiobooks (unintentionally) and finished 22 just during my work commute. This was before booksta though so now I listen to a ton more and I can’t imagine why anyone would pay for audible 😅
I am always hyping up the library and the libby app! My mom's a librian in our small town, so librarys have always held a special place in my heart. Thankfully my library allows more than 8 holds at a time. Last year in 10 months I saved myself almost $800 dollars by borrowing books. I have also started immersion reading if the book is available at libary at the same time that my audiobook hold comes up. It totally helps with focusing on the book and it makes me wonder if it would be benefically for younger ppl to give it a try.
I loved this video! I love my library and now I need them to have a donkey reading event 😂 Like you mentioned in the video, I will do the “notify me” for books they don’t have yet and as soon as they get it I put it on hold. I’ve been able to read so many new release that way. My local library does tons of events that we’ve brought our young daughter to over the years. I also love to visit in my own and just enjoy the quiet and be surrounded by books. Thanks for this video! ❤
Josie is the cutest!!! I love that’s these videos highlight libraries, and your content is never boring! I kept track of library savings last year because I read quite a lot, and I think I stopped keeping track in Oct but by then I’d saved over $1.2k! That only included the books I read and not the ones I DNF’ed or didn’t get around to, and also only included one format per book even if I checked out audio and physical. Wild! I loooove my local library
Oh my gosh, Josie is amazing. Look at her little shoes! I need to check Libby more often for library books for our Patreon buddy reads. Hoopla is something I could sign up for too. Unfortunately, Guns of the Dawn is not available to me on either one. I should check our local library for a physical copy closer to the start of the month.
oooh thank you for teaching me the phrase "immersion reading"! i always say "i read this in tandem with the audiobook" which is so much longer LOL so thank you!
The donkey is so cute! I love events like that. I just got notified yesterday that my library has ordered The Familiar by Leigh Bardugo so I'll be snapping that up as soon as I can. My library doesn't do the "you've saved x amount of money" thing but I know I've saved probably thousands of dollars over the years by using my local library. I love libraries!
I've seen those activities at swedish libraries too (I'm from Sweden). It seems so much fun! I actually work at a library and I do appreciate it when booktubers/booktokers/bookstagrammers talk about libraries and actually using them. It's not only good for borrowing books, but to meet other people. Some just want to talk to us librarians (some might be lonely in varying degrees and for different reasons) and some want to participate in activities and talk to other participants. But it feels meaningful!
oh my gosh, I want to read to some little donkeys! So cute! Oh you only get 8 holds? My library gives us 40 holds on Libby 💪🏻 I wouldn't be able to read anywhere near as many popular/new books without the library. It's such a lifesaver (and money saver!) I don't know how much money I've saved but it would easily be thousands and thousands of dollars.
I read *A LOT!!!!!!* Last year I read 250+ books and the only library card I had available was Cloud Library. It isn't very good. This year I found out about Libby from a YT video and was able to get a card from Broward County Florida even though I live in Maine. 95% of my books this year are library books. I love it!!!!
I recommend you get a Tempe Library card if you don't have one already. You get 10 holds instead of just the 8 from the Phoenix library, and I find the hold lines for books at the Tempe library are much shorter. And you just need an AZ ID to get a Tempe card.
Ohhh the donkey!!! How lovely! I've only got one on hold atm, which is the first Malazan book, but we can have 40 holds here in NZ and 35 loans. I think starting Malazan will be intense enough for me lol
In Denmark we only have "e-reolen global" when we sign up for Libby no matter where you have your libary card... And we get two holds and two loans at a time.
The timing of this is so perfect! I just got my very first library card. I don't know why, but I've just never really thought about the library. I've just been going through life spending a bunch of money on books, lol. I downloaded the Libby app, and I'm shocked at how much is available. So far, they've had everything I'm interested in picking up with the exception of Blood over Bright Haven, probably since it's self-published.
@ebnovels I'm actually listening to Cobalt Red (on your recommendation)on the Libby app right now while I'm working. Although I prefer traditional reading for fantasy, I like listening to non-fiction. I ended up ordering a copy of Blood over Bright Haven, but I'm going to save a ton of money using the library overall! I think it's really great that you're promoting libraries and doing library content!
I read Cobalt Red based on your recommendation, and it was such a powerful book. On an unrelated note, Josie is absolutely adorable. What a great program.
Contemporary romance Rosalind James. Her books are so well written and her plots feature healthy relationships where they communicate and its so consenty in the best way!
I love libraries! The hold strategies are actually kind of fun for me! I also finally got to The Girl in the Tower this year and just loved it, of course!
My roommate is a library and one of their annual programs is this wild bird event (the main draw is the owls), but I assure you, I will be pushing her to get donkeys in. Also, I've managed to acquire Libby access to 4 different library systems (the one benefit of moving around so much, lol), so while I can still run into hold and check out limits, I can almost always get access a book. And with every book I've checked out this year whether I read or DNF'd, I've saved almost $300.
That’s amazing! Yay savings :D I think I saw one of the libraries nearby us doing some kind of bat thing…I think it’s to make stuff for them as they come through Arizona. Anyway, I wish we had an owl event now 😆
I DNFd how to sell a haunted house, thankfully I got it from the library too which is where I tend to get my wildcard books from so I’m far more likely to just quit on those
If it wasn't for the library I couldn't afford to read as much as I do. I'm very impatient though, so I usually buy new releases as ebooks and majority of backlist I get through the library. Everything else I typically find off FB Marketplace - I usually buy, read and resell mainly because I don't have the space to keep too many physical books (Toronto real estate struggles). What did you think about The Warm Hands of Ghosts?
I have a recent new fantasy releases video with warm hands of ghosts! And I think your approach to how you access and read books makes sense-space and money are definitely significant factors to consider
Honestly, I'm going to try reading/listening to the audio at the same time bc I tend to struggle with fantasy names and getting distracted too! I've tried once before but the narrator was talking too slow for me, but maybe i can speed it up this time. My only DNF for the quarter was Empire of the Damned, which was a bummer cause I was so excited by the premise.
I wish I had DNFd A Tempest of Tea, but felt that I should read it as I had the physical ARC. But it was not Six of Crows...I had the same expectations because of the marketing and yes, the cover is beautifully designed.
Libby and Hoopla are amazing. I still have an audible subscription but only for books that I know I’ll listen to again or audible exclusive. But libraries are truly the MVPs. Edit: forgot to mention I get 40 Libby holds and 12 monthly hoopla checkouts with my library system and feel soooo lucky.
It is SO interesting to see how libraries manage their electronic collections differently - I have a card through Los Angeles and I get 30 holds :) and the checkout period is 21 days! Then I recently moved to the Houston area and added a County library card to my libby, and now I have another 30 holds available - but the checkout period is only 14 days. But also - LA has an insanely huge collection compared to Harris County (Houston). ANYWHO - love the library - love the idea of immersion reading. And the donkey was so adorable 💙💜
My library includes on the bottom the amount you've saved per year so far. There are too many books to not use the library to save some money however as an English speaker in a predominantly French area it can be difficult to get the lesser known ones I'd like to read.
Reading with animals is such a good idea and plus it is so sweet help encourage kids to read and etc and wonderful idea love it 📚📖📖📖📚🩵📚🌞❤️📙📙💞l🌸🌸💝💝🌻🌻🫶🏻🪷🌻💘🪻🪻💞📙💞🌼💓🩵📖🩷📖🩵💛💛💙💙💙💙🧡🩵📚🩷🩷❤️❤️
I love the library and enjoy using Libby but I’m not a fan of waiting over 2 months for one book 😭 by the time I get the book I’m not in the mood for it anymore and completely shift to something else lol
Will always endorse promotion of libraries and book access in general. I'm pretty well fossilized in my ways when it comes to getting books. Including a weekly trip to the library that started when I was caring for my grandfather more than a decade ago. Nevertheless, it was interesting to hear about the "new" app ecosystem that exists for borrowing. I'm glad remote access to library content is reasonably convenient for folks as fewer and fewer of us have the time & ability to visit libraries in person.
OMG, reading to mini donkeys and horses, how adorable is this! And Josie was so stinkin cute🥰 that would have been a highlight of the month for sure. After reading Fourth Wing last year I originally thought I’d request iron flame from my library. But the more time went by, I decided against it as I had no good recollections or feelings from the first book and thought why put myself through it. My current library doesn’t provide access to hoopla and I miss that, but I still use libby a lot. I love my library!
Yay libraries! And donkeys! And Libby! 😆 I personally think if Fourth Wing wasn’t a knockout for you, you’re probably not missing much with Iron Flame :)
Socnow i need to ask my library if I can bring my donkey Bows for people to read with. She is super sweet and would love it. They have a beautiful outside space so we could sit outside on a nice day!
I felt the exact same way about A Tempest of Tea 😅if it hadn't been our book club pick I would have DNF'd it, but I got it from the library so no harm done to my wallet
Butcher and Blackbird was my most recent DNF. The nsfw being read to me in a males voice for about 45 minutes did me in. I need a donkey to love me to repair my brain after that one 😊
I’m sad you didn’t love Guns of the Dawn. But then I thought, I requested my library obtain the Winnowing Flame trilogy … and I ended up not loving that. So I understand. 🤣
This is one of the american things i envy. Here in my corner of europe we have libraries, but usually old books and almost no fantasy. Not to mention i prefer reading in english. And digital formats? Forget, no chance (the fact their computer works is a miracle) i LOVED my childrens library and became friends with the librarian, but i just cannot find the same thing for an adult one

Ah, thank you for saying that! I’m always nervous this isn’t helpful at all 😅 And yay donkeys!!! 💕
OMG! That reading to donkeys and horses event is amazing! They look so sweet
I appreciate that you encourage using the library! It is definitely a money saver for me and a space saver! ❤ My local library does read to a dog that my youngest son loves to do! This month, it was all space theme, so the dogs had little astronaut costumes!
Ohhh my gosh, that sounds SO CUTE!!!
A library donkey?! I’m going to have to have a word with our librarians here 😅
She isn’t normally there sadly, but they do bring therapy dogs in for people to read to as well ☺️
I was going to say that my library often does dogs, but DONKEYS?!?! So cool. Also, I love The Old Truck. We own it so I read it to my kids often.
Another thing I love about hoopla is the graphic novels selection! And also the interface once you borrow them it’s SO easy to read them bc of how you can zoom in on the individual panels. Sometimes I read them at work on my computer lol

Immersion Reading is NEXT LEVEL! Your explanation of your Libby and Hoopla tactics are so me!! I feel seen 😊
I am always hyping up the library and the libby app! My mom's a librian in our small town, so librarys have always held a special place in my heart. Looked so fun!
Haha, since we tried to make sure all the kids got to go first, we had a lot of choosing time 😂
I loved this video! I love my library and now I need them to have a donkey reading event 😂

It’s also national library week! My library is like a second home to me! It’s one of the last free spaces and I’m so grateful for it ❤
Happy National Library Week! 📚 I’m glad the library serves such a wonderful purpose for you 💗
Oh my gosh, Josie is amazing. Look at her little shoes! I need to check Libby more often for library books for our Patreon buddy reads. Hoopla is something I could sign up for too. Yay libraries! And nice, that book is definitely going to have a long wait list 😮 Hopefully it’s good!
Oh my gosh those donkeys. That’s so cute! I can only have three holds on Libby 😢 I wish I could have more
Omg! Jodie the donkey is adorable ❤how fun!! 3:58
I've seen those activities at swedish libraries too (I'm from Sweden). It seems so much fun!

Omg. Idk what i love more, the horses and donkeys or that yall really spent time to pick out thematically appropriate books foe them. 😂
oh my gosh, I want to read to some little donkeys! So cute!

Great donkey content! I look forward to your updates and it helps me keep my TBR list in check.

This year I found out about Libby from a YT video and was able to get a card from Broward County Florida even though I live in Maine. 95% of my books this year are library books. I love it!!!!
Great idea to highlight library services! They need all the support we can give them.
I recommend you get a Tempe Library card if you don't have one already. You get 10 holds instead of just the 8 from the Phoenix library, and I find the hold lines for books at the Tempe library are much shorter. And you just need an AZ ID to get a Tempe card.

We have a dog version of the donkey thing at my library. It’s always fun getting to pet the dog every week and seeing all the kids read to him.
I’ve just finished tyranny of faith and loved it! Can’t wait to start the third book 🎉
I didn't know about hoopla. Thank you for sharing this information! :3
In Denmark we only have "e-reolen global" when we sign up for Libby no matter where you have your libary card... And we get two holds and two loans at a time.
I cannot say how sad I am that I missed mini donkeys, and I'm near that library location. They look so cute. 🥰
haha love how you added the donkey to the end
The timing of this is so perfect! I just got my very first library card. I don't know why, but I've just never really thought about the library. Reading to the animals sounds so cute and fun! I love that!
Love all the library love! I started working in a public library last year, and yes, it's the dream job. Well, my dream job at least. 🥰
Thanks to YOU I got hooked on both Libby and Hoopla. Both me and my wallet thanks you so MUCH! 📚🎧
I read Cobalt Red based on your recommendation, and it was such a powerful book.
On an unrelated note, Josie is absolutely adorable. What a great program.
Thank you! 💜 Love the library! 😊
Contemporary romance Rosalind James. Her books are so well written and her plots feature healthy relationships where they communicate and its so consenty in the best way!
Oh man! I'd love for the Mesa library to have the donkeys. My Dad loved donkeys so i have a soft spot for them. So adorable.
I love libraries! The hold strategies are actually kind of fun for me! I also finally got to The Girl in the Tower this year and just loved it, of course!

Hey, I’m officially jealous of your Libby holds 😂😂😂 I do get a lot of physical holds thankfully!
Only 8 holds?!? I get 30 at my library and that doesn't feel like enough.
I get 12, and it’s so so limiting!
A Tempest of Tea was a DNF for me. It was more pining after each other than heist.
Surprised you did not take out the book Donkey Ottee. Best wishes.
My library includes on the bottom the amount you've saved per year so far. There are too many books to not use the library to save some money however as an English speaker in a predominantly French area it can be difficult to get the lesser known ones I'd like to read.
Ah, I’m sorry, that does sound unfortunate 😕
I didn't realize you don't have to worry about hold times on Hoopla!

Libby holds! They invariably all come in at once! 😄 Love love love the library anyway.
I adored Tempest of Tea and Song of Silver and Dark Star Burning are both on my hall of fame list for the year so far!
I wish we could get those library apps in the UK. It’s suck a great idea and opportunity for people who can’t books etc
I love the idea of a DWO: Didn’t Work Out. I’m going to start using that.
I can't think of many things cuter than a donkey in a library. 😍
OMG, reading to mini donkeys and horses, how adorable is this! And Josie was so stinkin cute🥰 that would have been a highlight of the month for sure. Reading to donkey? Really? that's so sweeet😍
Haha, I know! 😆
You only get 8 holds?! We get 20 in TN and KY
Wuhhhhhh 😱
Just to clarify, we get 8 on Libby. We get a lot more for physical books
Socnow i need to ask my library if I can bring my donkey Bows for people to read with. She is super sweet and would love it. They have a beautiful outside space so we could sit outside on a nice day!
Now I need my library to have an emotional support donkey. 🥺
was the donkey real? or computer?? why he did move ? just blinking eyes.
Reading to donkeys!!!! 😍😍😍 That's sound amazing. I wish my library would do that
I felt the exact same way about A Tempest of Tea 😅if it hadn't been our book club pick I would have DNF'd it, but I got it from the library so no harm done to my wallet
Omg stop reading to a donkey is too cute
She was soooo cute 🥰
Butcher and Blackbird was my most recent DNF. The nsfw being read to me in a males voice for about 45 minutes did me in. I need a donkey to love me to repair my brain after that one 😊
Not gonna lie, I'd watch a full video just featuring you reading to the donkey 🥹
8 holds! My Libby only lets me have 4 and I have two different libraries for my area 😢😅
Oh how many hoopla can you get a month? I can only get 3 again sad 😞
Let's be honest. I would just pet the donkey and forget to read!
I’m sad you didn’t love Guns of the Dawn. But then I thought, I requested my library obtain the Winnowing Flame trilogy … and I ended up not loving that. So I understand. 🤣
I love my Libby app! But my holds limit is 6! Why is yours 8 🤔🤔🤔
This is one of the american things i envy. Here in my corner of europe we have libraries, but usually old books and almost no fantasy. Not to mention i prefer reading in english. And digital formats? Forget, no chance (the fact their computer works is a miracle)
i LOVED my childrens library and became friends with the librarian, but i just cannot find the same thing for an adult one
Ah, I’m so sorry! I wish I could make libraries appear all over the world.
Great Video!
I appreciate your iorn flame words same I just finished but ugh!!
Love it when I'm first for once after a long day ;)
I saved over 3k from using the public library last year 😊❤
My greatest literary shame is that I've DNFed Lord of the Rings... twice. I'm not proud.
I swear everyone I know was disappointed by Tempest of Tea...
A tempest of tea was dnf for me as well. And funnily enough I also dnf'ed we hunt the flame but I thought I should give this one a chance but it just wasn't what I was hoping for.
Hello
Looking at Libby, I've checked out 169 books or audiobooks in the past 18 months since I moved and got a library card. Assuming an average cost of audible and paperback/hardback of $15, that's just over $2500 savings just on Libby.
Hoopa is 53*15 is $795
Physical books 30* 15=$450
Total savings is $3745 that I saved. Honestly, I wouldn't have spent all that money on books, so I was able to listen/read more than I would have if I had to buy outright.
Lol thank goodness that both apps and my library has a history since I don't track anything beyond standard tags in story graph. I may start adding tags for library/Libby/hoopla.
Also, I really wanted to read all of the star wars high Republic, which I consumed exclusively through the various library options. I would have never been able to do so since the cost would have been too much
