I had a similar experience, I was in a Michael Kors store and soon as I walked in a nice Asian man ask me do I need help. He showed me different things and I picked one of the bags he showed me, he was so courteous and kind. I was still shopping for a little while, then I walked up to pay for the bag he helped me pick out. The cashier said who helped you, then she pointed to a black man who she had seen me with just before I walked up to the counter. The guy she was pointing to, just ask me did I need any help and I replied no. I could have said yes to the cashier and gave him a commission on my $250 bag, but I didn’t. Since the guy that helped me was not in our sight, I described him to her and she knew who I was talking about. It would have been wrong of me to give the black guy the commission when he didn’t even help me with anything, but the Asian guy did. So YOU WAS RIGHT KAREN! Do not let ANYONE tell you different. 😊

I had a similar situation when I was buying my house. I already had a realtor, who was an Arab-American guy, and he showed my wife and I a few houses, but we hadn't found anything yet. Then I went on one of the housing websites, and I saw another realtor who was a Black guy, and I was thinking, "Hey, why not give the Brother the commission on the house sale." I regretted it the moment that Black dude called me back. Because he acted like I would be wasting his time to show me the house, he was skeptical on if I had the money to buy, despite the fact that my loan was ALREADY PRE APPROVED. I just told him forget it, and went right back to my Arab American realtor. I felt like a complete ass too.

as my pop says first you pull out the souladex and if that doesn't work you pull out the Rolladex. You give the brotha a shot that's all you can do, doesn't mean the next black man you deal with will be the same.

@@KarenHunterShow Trump's housing lawsuit was about him not renting to low income people of all races not just blacks because low income people have a reputation for being terrible renters. Black liberals like you racialized that incident just like you racialized Trump's Central Park 5 statements when Trump never mentioned the race of the Central Park 5.
Lastly there's no proof Trump said he didn't want blacks handling his money. So instead of fake racist claims about Trump, I challenge you to do a show speaking on the confirmed racist history of former segregationist Jim Crow Joe Biden who was mentored by multiple KKK members like Robert Byrd and said he didn't want his kids in a "racial jungle" and called black youth "super predators".
But I know you won't speak on Biden's racist history because you want to keep blacks on the Democrat plantation.

To answer the question, Black people can be racist, but in most instances, it's not racism when it involves Black people. For it to be racist there has to be a belief that one's race is superior to another, and there is the belief that the superior race has the right TO DOMINATE the lesser race. The second and most important part is the maintaining of social, economic, and political power of the DOMINANT group in that society.
Can Clarence Thomas, Tim Scott, or Candace Owens be racist? Yes, because they function as proxies to the dominant White Society.
So when Latasha Harlins was murdered by a Korean shop owner, the owner was racist by serving the larger White society and MAINTAINING White Supremacy.
The reason why most instances are not racist when they involve Black people is because those non-Black people would never be in a situation where Black people are the dominant group.
Dr. Hunter was displaying favorable PREJUDICE toward that Black associate because she was not dominating the White associate or had a belief that her Black race should dominate the white associate. Also what dominant society was Dr. Hunter's actions maintaining or supporting? It would be considered racist if she were working at BET and overlooked the White employee for a promotion and gave it to an unqualified Black person.

I am conflicted. I can applaud your honesty but would not necessarily raise your thoughts to an act of racism . The system would couch it in terms of reverse racism to alleviate the need to look at the overall systems that prepuate racism. Perhaps if there was not an underlying system of racism in employment you would not have considered giving the black person the commission.
It is complicated especially when we have a history of non melinated people denying being racist while giving a preference to their own

It's not limited to per se a 'system', but to ANY dynamic of simply having power over anyone that limits or takes away from another that are not of the same race based upon their race. This is inherently defined as 'racism'-WHICH, IS DISGUISABLE FROM WHAT ARE OFTEN 'MUTED' PREJUDICES AND SIMPLE BIASES.

While I agree with Karen’s ultimate decision to not “steal” the white woman’s commission, I considered her initial attempt to go to the Black women as more of a racial bias or race solidarity thing. Okay, but we live on Earth. We are judged by our colors. I think we all just want fairness regardless of color. Ms. Karen was ATTEMPTING to be fair to the Black woman because she knows the historical and current plight of Black ppl, but in doing so, she was unfair to the white woman. That does not make her racist. The fact that she even had to THINK about leveling the economic playing field tells you so much about the SYSTEM of racism she was trying to navigate. Calling HERSELF potentially racist is proof of how much race has ahold of our minds, even though we are at the receiving end. It is like a victim of domestic violence feeling guilty about slapping someone after they just got punched. This racism thing perpetrated against our people freaked up our psyches. Racism is a problem initiated by white racism. It is sad that she even has to feel this type of guilt for something so simple, but so big at the same time.

I've loved listening to your show for awhile now Karen, and as someone who is not black or white I've been called slurs by people of many different races so I'd say that everyone can be racist on a personal level. I have had two hate crimes happen to me in life due to my ethnicity, one by a white MAGA guy and the other by a black man.
I've heard the "black people can't be racist because it's about prejudice plus power" arguement. Maybe there is truth to that on the systematic level, but I'd say on an interpersonal level, yes, everyone can be racist.

@@KarenHunterShow it's should. But it's safe to say we are the main ones that aren't afforded that treatment.
Agree with both sides because of this... why in this country do we have to be the ones to take the higher road when we have been mistreated the most. Okay I'm back lol.

Make some distinction between stereotyping, prejudice, discrimination and racism! Discrimination based on race is not racism. Read Neely Fuller! He wrote the book on Racism. "Racism is White Supremacy."

So when 300k jobs are created in tech during the pandemic, and 95% go to poc and women, is that not systemic? What about when the VP of Disney is caught on camera saying they aren't hiring White's? Some of the biggest companies in the world are OPENLY saying they don't want white people. Y'all lack morals. And reading comprehension because you can simply Google the definition of racism. An individual that is black can absolutely be racist. There's nothing in the definition excluding blacks. NOTHING.

    Definitely a topic worth discussing!
I had to ask myself this question frequently, and this is my opinion. The topics of discussion we ought to have are what is discrimination, being a racist, and being racial. These terms can be confusing because of their similarity. All three make strange "bedfellows."

    Ms. Karen,
You WERE NOT RACIST. Yes, I believe Black people with SYSTEMIC power can be racist. In this case, u was wrong…but not racist. Here is why:
    1) you had power, but not systemic, changeable power
    2) your power was not in a vacuum. Ur power had many factors at play as a Black woman in America with historical context.
3)you were a patron, not the owner. If you OWNED the store, that would be more of a societal microcosm at play. Then you would be racist.
    5) you were trying to recirculate the Black dollar, not trying to disenfranchise the white woman…which would be racist
Bonus: When a mouse gets an upper hand on the cat, that does not make him anti-cat. It makes him pro-survival.
Don’t feel bad. Just do better next time. Yes, you was messed up, but racist? No.

In Prof. Karen’s real life scenario, she was absolutely right to FIX strife created in a commission environment❣️
Again, the wrong was upfront in not preparing to convert a small amount of green to black. BUT 1 penny, 1 nickel, 1 dime at a time financed Black Wsll Street, Lincoln University, 1st banks, insurance company here in NC. THIS time we should function with understanding “the divide & conquer game”. Amen & Amen again.
