I was thinking the same. My Bernina has three thread cutters. One at the bobbin winder, one in the bobbin case and another on the side for cutting at the end of seams. This idea is clever but also seems like a good way to get injured. For the cost of an ER visit one could simply upgrade to a marginally better machine with a built- in cutter and probably an automatic needle threader, too
Excellent. You could ALSO put a bobbin inside the case and use it for hand sewing...pull the thread, cut it off with that metal piece (as if it were floss) and thread your needle. No more loose thread in your mending box. !
I had the same thought! It would be great to put together a travel sewing kit. The thread will remain contained. I hope a bobbin is not to wide for the case.
My machine has a thread cutter, but its location causes the loss of about six inches of bobbin and upper thread each time I cut. This is a terrific idea that will help me in my mission to be as "zero waste" as possible and I'm definitely going to try this hack, as well as the comb and razor blade. Thank you so very much! 👍🙏💖
Yes, I agree, but my older industrial machine doesn’t, so I may implement this. It is a good idea, for the older ones. I’ll probably cut my finger trying to cut it out, though…lol
Thank you so much I really really enjoyed watching you create this thread cutter for a sewing machine, which doesn’t have one. Please stay safe and well too xxxx Mags ❤❤❤❤
Im lucky, i still sew on my mom’s old Singer 404 machine that has a thread cutter already built into the back of the machine similar to this video. I use it every time I sew. So handy to have.
That's true. But, the location of it on some machines causes you to "waste" a bit of your thread. My machines has one but it's at least four inches away from where my sewing is, causing me to lose a lot of thread when I ever use the cutter. 😉
BRILLIANT! surprisingly there's no thread cutter on my recently inherited vintage Bernina 830 which has been annoying me. OBVIOUSLY, not ALL sewing machines have built-in cutters but anyone who'd throw away a solid trusty old machine for that reason must be too young to know that new is not necessarily better 😂 & to those that say 'just use scissors' - clearly you have no clue 😂 thank you for sharing this genius tip, I'm doing it immediately!
I don't believe I've ever owned a machine that didn't have a thread cutter on the back side of the bar to which you attach the presser foot 🤔. I, however, commend you're ingenuity in fixing the issue on your machine 😉 😘 👍 🎉 ‼
lol 😂 Delightful! How clever is that! 🦋
Every machine I’ve had since the early 60’s has had a built in thread cutter!
Yeah but in time they get dull. Trust me
Some of the industrial machines doesn't have one. Great tip, thanks.

I have a Kenmore from the 70s and it has a thread cutter.
Very good idea. Thank you.
Nice idea for older
machines that don't have built-up cutters!
The one I grew up with bought in the early 50s had a thread cutter.
any one have owners manual for a Husqvarna 6690 to download please ?
@@mikecontos5269 Hi. I contacted the company and they sent me one on VHS. lol. It still might be done.
Even older machines have a thread cutter
Que idea más práctica. Gracias!!!! Saludos desde Cuba
Excellent. You could ALSO put a bobbin inside the case and use it for hand sewing...pull the thread, cut it off with that metal piece (as if it were floss) and thread your needle. No more loose thread in your mending box. !
That's right !👍
I had the same thought! It would be great to put together a travel sewing kit. The thread will remain contained. I hope a bobbin is not to wide for the case.
May use the narrow plastic bobbins, I want to say 66
Great idea to carry with you for mending.
I do this! Also use dental floss for sewing on buttons!!

Excelente idea.me encanto
Amei a ideia , parabéns a minha máquina ñ tem esse recurso vou correndo fazer obrigada Deus te abençoe,
I can’t believe how creative this is!!!
Awesome recycling/reusing!🎉😊
My Babylock machine, new in 2014, does not have a cutter. I am going to try that! Thank you! ❤
Clever DIY. Smart thinking!
I've used it on my all sewing machines for more than 5 years !
Great idea thanks. I can use the same idea on my threads when I am sewing by hand.
Thanks this gave me so many ideas.
Someone already invented this. They come on machines and work like a champ!
Yes, I agree, but my older industrial machine doesn’t, so I may implement this. It is a good idea, for the older ones. I’ll probably cut my finger trying to cut it out, though…lol
@@mjp5129 ok. I see. 🙂
My janome doesn’t…….
My old Singer doesn't have this either.

Love utilizing what end up in land fills.
Idea! Could use on my overlocker as that doesn’t have a cutter. Thank you!

Great idea! I'm gonna use the another one for hand sewing
Genius!!!! ❤❤❤
You are a genious. Thankyou for sharing your skills with us. Tx/PR
Great thread cutter.
I'm thrilled my machine has a thread cutter that is in an ideal position and doesn't cause thread waste. Great idea for those who don't.
Brilliant!!!

First of its kind in the world, maybe. It can cut and HOLD the thread properly. Million sewers benefit for it.
Très très bonne idée merci beaucoup
Estou chocadaaaaa😅 amei a dica... parabéns
You are so clever!!! Love your videos Thank you
Amazing👍🤩!!!
That is one of the things I love about my machine is it has a thread cutter and threader.
You're a genius

Every sewing machine I ever used had a built in thread cutter.
Dica maravilhosoa!
Obrigada!
Harika bir fikir🎉
Wao that’s amazing idea
Einfach nur raffiniert. Danke für den Tipp! Gruß
Thanks for the tip
good idea for an industrial machine

Very CLEVER!
Muito boa a sacada , obrigafo por compartilhar. 😊😊
Incrível 👍 gostei 👏😍
Very cool!
Thank you.🎉🎉🎉
Aula maravilhosa muito obg
But sewing machines already have thread cutters!
Obviously this one didn't. Many older machines and leather machines do not.
That's true. But, the location of it on some machines causes you to "waste" a bit of your thread. My machines has one but it's at least four inches away from where my sewing is, causing me to lose a lot of thread when I ever use the cutter. 😉
Some don't mine does and one of my sergers also has one
If I had a cutter as close to the needle as this I would have to retread my needle every time. I think that the normal place is ideal.
Industrial machines don't have cutters & they are very popular for domestic use these days....
BRILLIANT! surprisingly there's no thread cutter on my recently inherited vintage Bernina 830 which has been annoying me. Geniale 😊👏👏👏👏👏😉
Amei esse jeito de cortar linha ❤
Gostei da ideia!👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽
Una idea sorprendente. 👍
I sew onto a small scrap of fabric leading on & off the seam.
Saves thread.
Uall excelente!! 😱😳❤
Cool.
Muito prático. Parabéns pela dica! #ideiascriativas
Newer ( and most) sewing machines have a cutter at the nose of the machine. Great too for those that don’t.
Wow fantastico
Genial 👏👏
Clever!
Bacana essa ideia 💡
GENIAL!!!!!
Excelente!
I'll bet not one person out of 1.43m has actually tried this.
Estelar buenísima idea

And that’s what the thread cutter on the back of your machine is already there for
This is stuff great for re sewing buttons and repointing Teddy’s and dolls arms , but this is great also for the empty container to reuse. ❤ tfs
WOW! 😮
Great
Boa ideia ! I Like...I like.
Genial!!!
Que bien 👍👏👏👏🇨🇴🤗
Nice. Thanks, my machine does not have a thread cutter.
Simplesmente amei
Espectacular
