Being someone who was born in SF and have lived there for my entire life (except for now being in college), it holds such a magical feeling. I love the city, it will always be my home, and no matter the faults it is such a wonderful and amazing place

FANCY SEEING YOU HERE, TAYTUM! Would have to echo everything you said. Having moved away from SF for school, its videos like these that remind me of the unparalleled charm of this city.

  • @escapefromsanfranciscomedi6351

Thank you for making the city look beautiful. San Francisco gets so much hate online but this city is such a magical place. I been to all of the major cities along the West Coast but there is nothing like here. I am a bartender here, whenever you come back to the city I would love to show you some amazing bars and also ones all the locals go to. It not roaring like it was before the pandemic but I wouldn't want to be anywhere else. Thank you again for the quality and wholesome content. -Aaron

I lived in SF before the pandemic, very near Powell Street -- took the cable car home from work all the time. Unfortunately, the pandemic closed my company's office, and I had to move back home to Burbank -- don't get me wrong, living in LA is awesome, too. But I really, really, really miss San Francisco and the lifestyle. When I lived there, there were so many places that I wanted to shoot without all the damn tourists in the way. When the pandemic first hit, I got my chance. Only I found those places were now soulless, uninteresting, uninviting. I still took a few photos -- they're among my worst, ever. I may not have wanted the people in the photos, but it was the people who gave the city its life & joy. I totally agree with your assessment of SF -- it's like a world unto itself, and definitely, one of the greatest places to live on the west coast. Next time you're there, check out the Mosaic Stairs. There are 2 sets, the Hidden Garden Stairs (the lesser known) and the 16th Avenue Tiled Steps (everyone knows). At the top of the 16th Avenue Tiled Steps, you can keep going up to Grandview Park, where you'll get a stunning 360 degree view of San Francisco. Good video!

Great post. SF is in my fondest childhood memories. Life took that away until COVID triggered events that allowed me to spend the time there that I always wanted. You are so right about the tourists, they make it and break it at the same time

Great pix, Brae. In this digital age, many folks forget that photography needs a physical photograph at the end of the process. San Francisco has so many great sites - Mount Tamalpais, The former Jefferson Airplane House (a Victorian mansion painted black in the late ‘60’s), Coit Tower, Union Square, The Saint Francis Hotel, The Cathedral of Saint Mary (a 60’s modern church with the greatest pipe organ ever), China Town, Barbary Coast, Nob Hill and so much more. It would bee a great place to do a photo tour.

The F3 is elite for sure! I've shot on so many 35mm cameras and the F3 takes the win over cameras like the AE-1, A1, New F1etc. All great cameras but there is definitely something about the F3 that makes shooting 35mm magical! The shutter sound is truly chefs kiss.

No doubt about Seinfeld's legendary status. You would love Larry David's 'Curb Your Enthusiasm' (up to about season 8) An improv style - basic story outline is written by David, and the superb cast ad lib the lines as they go. Most episodes are totally hilarious from start to finish. I mean you won't believe how good it is. Well that was my evaluation.

Brae...My wife and I are from San Francisco ('70's) and we have tons of great memories of the City! You caught our old city perfectly on film. In the time that we lived there, we would frequently hang out in North Beach. Cafe Trieste (close to Mo's) was our go-to spot for cappuccino and pastry! But I'll have to try Mo's in Dec when we head up for a couple of nights. Love see you and your Pentax 67 in action. I used to have one and a Nikon too. Hasselblads for weddings back in the day. Now I'm a Canon R6 guy. I'm glad that I "found" your UA-cam account!! Cheers! Joe Homsy @homsyphoto

I love SF. Never lived there, but visited often.
Regarding the summer of love and the way we romanticize the 60's and hippy culture, you should read Joan Didion's essay about it. I think it in in the book "Slouching towards Bethlehem."
I mean, the 60s gave us a lot... and I wished we could have that same optimism and idealism now, but there was definitely a dark side.
    Enjoyed the video. Peace...

it takes a lot of testing to match your film of choice, to your developer of choice, for best enlargement results in the darkroom. This is why we stuck to one film and one developer. We didn’t switch every week. Also do this yourself, sending film out leads to unpredictable results.
    This is how:
    1. Find a scene with with a good range of tones
    2. Using the box speed, meter the darkest area in which you wish to retain shadow detail
    3. Move the camera so that you are only photographing this shadow area
    4. From the meter's reading close down the aperture by 2 stops or increase the shutter speed by two stops and then expose 6 frames at: the given exposure then +1 stop, +2 stops, -1 stop, -2 stops and -3 stops less than the meter has indicated
    5. Process the film
    6. Using the frame that was exposed at -3 stops less than the meter indicated (which should be practically clear but will have received lens flair and fogging - i.e a real world maximum black rather than an exposed piece of film that has processing fog)and do a test strip to find out what is the minimum exposure to achieve maximum black - Print must be fully dry before assessing this
    7. Do another test strip with the first exposure being what you have selected for achieving maximum black minus your dry-down compensation then plus 1 second, 2 seconds, etc
    8. The time that achieves full black inclusive of compensation for dry-down is you minimum exposure to achieve maximum black for all future printing sessions - print must be fully dry before assessing
9 You now know the minimum time to achieve full black inclusive of exposure reduction to accommodate dry-down
    10. Using this minimum exposure to achieve maximum black exposure time, expose all of the other test frames.
    11. The test print that has good shadow detail indicates which exposure will render good shadow detail and achieve maximum black and provides you with your personal EI for the tested film/developer combination
12 If the negative exposed at the meter reading gives good shadows, your EI is (when metering shadows where you wish to retain good detail) the box speed (i.e. for 400 film you need to set your meter at 400)
    13. If the negative exposed at +1 stop more than the meter reading gives good shadows, your EI is (when metering shadows where you wish to retain good detail) 1/2 the box speed (i.e. for 400 film you need to set your meter at 200)
    14. If the negative exposed at +2 stops more than the meter reading gives good shadows, you EI is (when metering shadows where you wish to retain good detail) 1/4 box speed (i.e. for 400 film you need to set your meter at 100)
    15. If the negative exposed at -1 stop less than the meter reading gives good shadows, you EI is (when metering shadows where you wish to retain good detail) double the box speed (i.e. for 400 film you need to set your meter at 800)
    16. If the negative exposed at -2 stop less than the meter reading gives good shadows, you EI is (when metering shadows where you wish to retain good detail) 4x the box speed (i.e. for 400 film you need to set your meter at 1600)
You have now fixed your personal EI but there is one more testing stage to go.
    1. Find a scene with with a good range of tones
    2. Using your EI, meter the brightest area in which you wish to retain highlight detail (but not the sky)
    3. Move the camera so that you are only photographing this highlight area
    4. From the meter's reading open up the aperture by 3 stops or decrease the shutter speed by three stops
    5. Expose the whole roll at this setting
    6. In the darkroom, process one third of the film for recommended development time
    7. When dry put negative in the enlarger and make a three section test strip exposing for half the minimum black time established earlier, for the established minimum black time and for double the minimum black time.
    8. Process print and dry it.
    9. If the section of the test strip exposed for 1/2 the minimum black time gives bright highlights with a trace of detail then the film requires 20% more development
    10. If the section of the test strip exposed for the minimum black time gives bright highlights with a trace of detail then the film is correctly developed
    11. If the section of the test strip exposed for double the minimum black time gives bright highlights with a trace of detail then the film requires 20% less development
    12. You can use the rest of the exposed highlight test film to fine tune the development time
You run this test on a condenser enlarger with a #2 contrast or a #3 on a diffuser enlarger

How are you enjoying the 40mm f2?
Im torn to get one, i Usually prefer a faster lens up to 1.4 specialy for sunset pics..
    But im very tempted
